Diaz isn't in the Rockies' lineup Saturday against St. Louis. Diaz will take a seat Saturday after going 1-for-7 with two walks through the first two games of the series. Jacob Stallings will instead get the nod to start at catcher while batting sixth.... See More ... See Less

Rockies' Elias Diaz: Three hits, homer vs. Cincinnati
Diaz went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, a double and two additional RBI in a 12-7 loss to the Reds on Wednesday. After opening the scoring with an RBI groundout in the first inning, Diaz put the Rockies ahead 5-4 with a solo shot off Nick Martinez before adding a third RBI with a base hit in the seventh. It's the third multi-hit effort in four games for Diaz -- he's gone 7-for-16 in that span. The 33-year-old backstop is off to another strong start this year, slashing .306/.351/.452 with five homers, 27 RBI and 20 runs scored through 202 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Elias Diaz: Getting rest Sunday
Diaz is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers. Diaz will receive a breather for the series finale in Los Angeles after he had started at catcher or designated hitter in each of the Rockies' previous six games. Jacob Stallings will handle catching duties Sunday in Diaz's stead.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Elias Diaz: Not starting Saturday
Diaz isn't in the Rockies' lineup Saturday against the Phillies. Diaz went 0-for-4 with a walk during Friday's series opener, and he'll now take a seat against Aaron Nola and the Phillies. Jacob Stallings will start in Diaz's place behind the dish and bat eighth.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Elias Diaz: Resting Thursday
Diaz is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Athletics. Diaz will be joined on the bench by Charlie Blackmon, Kris Bryant and Brendan Rodgers as the Rockies rest four key regulars for the day game after a night game. Jacob Stallings will fill in behind the plate in place of Diaz, who went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double and two RBI in Wednesday's 4-3 win.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Elias Diaz: Another three-hit performance
Diaz went 3-for-5 with a double and a two-run homer in Wednesday's win over the Athletics. Diaz jumped on a hanging slider from Mitch Spence in the first inning and crushed it over the wall in center field to give the Rockies an early 2-0 lead. The catcher would then add a single and a double in his next two at-bats, giving him his second-consecutive three-hit performance. Diaz has been on a tear in May, batting .370 with two homers, nine RBI and five runs scored while also posting eight multi-hit games.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Elias Diaz: Returns to lineup
Diaz (hand) is in the Rockies' lineup Tuesday versus the Athletics. Diaz missed four consecutive games for the Rockies due to a hand injury, and he had an additional day to recover with the team day off Monday. Jacob Stallings was starting in his place, but the former will return to the bench Tuesday.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Elias Diaz: Still sitting Sunday
Diaz (hand) is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants, Luke Zahlmann of The Denver Gazette reports. It's the fourth straight absence for Diaz as he continues to nurse a hand injury. He'll have Monday's team off day to aid in his recovery ahead of Tuesday's series opener in Oakland. Jacob Stallings will work behind the plate Sunday for Colorado.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Elias Diaz: Sitting out third straight
Diaz (hand) isn't in the Rockies' lineup for Saturday's game against the Giants. Left hand soreness will cause Diaz to miss his third game in a row Saturday. The Rockies haven't given any indication that the 33-year-old backstop is trending toward an IL stint, but he may have to spend time on the injured list if his condition doesn't improve within the next couple of days. Hunter Goodman will start behind the plate and bat eighth while Diaz recovers.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Elias Diaz: Two-run blast in loss
Diaz went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Wednesday's loss to the Giants. Diaz drove in Colorado's third run of the game with an infield single in the bottom of the fifth and later added a two-run shot in the ninth to bring his team back within two runs of the Giants, though his effort would fall short. It marked the catcher's third multi-hit game already this month, and he's now hit safely in five of his last six contests. The home run was only Diaz's third of the season, though he's now batting .348 in May with four RBI and three extra-base hits.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Elias Diaz: Gets rest for day game
Diaz is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Marlins. He'll get a well-deserved breather Thursday after starting at catcher or designated hitter in each of the Rockies' last nine games. Jacob Stallings will replace Diaz behind the dish.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Elias Diaz: Slugs second homer
Diaz went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to the Padres on Wednesday. Diaz accounted for half of the Rockies' runs in the contest with his solo shot to center field in the eighth inning. The blast snapped a 19-game homerless drought for the backstop, who belted 14 long balls last season. Despite the modest power output thus far, Diaz has had a nice start to the campaign with a .312/.357/.429 slash line and 11 RBI.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Elias Diaz: Productive in Game 2
Diaz went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI in Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader against the Mariners. Diaz delivered Colorado's only offense with a two-RBI double in the opening frame. That continued a hot start to the campaign, as he has at least one hit in 11 of his last 13 games while also racking up nine RBI and five runs scored in that span.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Elias Diaz: Six-game hitting streak
Diaz went 2-for-4 with a walk, an RBI and two runs scored Friday against the Blue Jays. Diaz delivered singles in each of his first two at-bats, coming around to score after the first while driving in a run with the latter. The performance extended his hitting streak to six games, the first five of which came at Coors Field. Diaz has started 10 of the first 14 contests of the season and should remain the Rockies' primary catcher.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Elias Diaz: Resting Wednesday
Diaz is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks. Diaz will get a breather for the day game after he caught both of the first two contests of the series while going 3-for-7 with a pair of RBI to extend his hitting streak to five games. Jacob Stallings will check in for Diaz behind the dish.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Elias Diaz: Receives maintenance day
Diaz is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays. Diaz will retreat to the bench for the series finale after he went 4-for-8 with two RBI while starting behind the plate both Friday and Saturday. Jacob Stallings will handle catching duties for the Rockies on Sunday.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Elias Diaz: Day off Wednesday
Diaz is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs, Luke Zahlmann of The Denver Gazette reports. It's a routine day off for Diaz, who is 3-for-17 with a home run in his first five games this season. Jacob Stallings will do the catching for starting pitcher Cal Quantrill.... See More ... Rockies' Elias Diaz: Could rest more in 2024
The Rockies hope to rest Diaz more in 2024 after acquiring Jacob Stallings in the offseason, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. Diaz earned a career-high 526 plate appearances and suited up in 141 games in 2023, primarily because the Rockies lacked a reliable second catcher. The addition of Stallings gives the team a solid defensive backstop, and Diaz is likely to see less volume as a result. Given his mediocre .725 OPS and .142 ISO from a year ago, his fantasy value is likely to take at least a moderate hit.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Elias Diaz: Sitting for season finale
Diaz is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins. The 32-year-old started the first two games versus Minnesota but will sit for the series and season finale Sunday. Barring an appearance off the bench, Diaz will close the campaign with a .266/.314/.408 slash line with 14 homers and 72 RBI in 140 contests as he enters the final year of his contract in 2024. Austin Wynns is catching for Chase Anderson in the season finale.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Elias Diaz: On bench Thursday
Diaz is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Dodgers. Diaz gets a breather after going 0-for-4 with four strikeouts in the Rockies' loss to Los Angeles on Wednesday. Austin Wynns will start at catcher and bat eighth in Thursday's series finale.... See More ... See Less
