Padres' Jackson Merrill: Swats third homer
Merrill went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Monday's loss to Colorado.
Merrill was the only Padre with multiple hits in the contest, and his seventh-inning solo shot brought the team to within one run, though it turned out to be the final tally of the game. The rookie has notched consecutive multi-hit performances and has multiple hits in four of his past eight contests overall, so he could be back on the rise following an eight-game stretch from late April to early May during which he went 1-for-23 at the plate. Merrill still has a strong .291/.342/.403 slash line along with three homers, 17 RBI, 18 runs and six stolen bases on the season.

Padres' Jurickson Profar: Clubs homer Monday
Profar went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk in Monday's 5-4 loss to the Rockies.
Profar has hit safely in eight of 11 games in May, going 13-for-40 (.325) with three homers and 10 RBI this month. The 31-year-old is slashing .320/.402/.517 with seven long balls, 29 RBI, 23 runs scored, eight doubles and two stolen bases over 44 contests. Profar's best season in the majors was the abbreviated 2020 campaign, and he hit just nine homers with 46 RBI over 125 games last year -- he'll likely post stronger marks in 2024, but his current pace will be tough to sustain.

Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Homers in consecutive games
Bogaerts went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 5-4 loss to the Rockies.
Bogaerts has doubled his homer total for the year from two to four by going deep in each of the last two games. Prior to the power uptick, he endured an 0-for-15 slump over four contests. The veteran infielder is still battling inconsistency with a .212/.264/.318 slash line, 13 RBI, 23 runs scored, two stolen bases and six doubles through 182 plate appearances this season. He's never posted an OPS lower than .659 in a full campaign, and there's plenty of time for Bogaerts to turn things around in 2024.

Padres' Randy Vasquez: Gives up five runs in loss
Vasquez (0-2) allowed five runs on eight hits and a walk while failing to strike out a batter over 3.2 innings, taking the loss Monday versus the Rockies.
Vasquez gave up four of those runs in the fourth inning and was ultimately relieved by Adrian Morejon. Aside from his start versus the Cubs last Tuesday, Vasquez has posted mostly mediocre outings at the major-league level this year. He's at a 6.32 ERA, 1.79 WHIP and 11:4 K:BB through 15.2 innings across four starts. If Joe Musgrove (elbow) returns from the injured list when first eligible Friday, Vasquez could lose his place on the 26-man roster.

Kim was removed from Sunday's game against the Dodgers after being hit by a pitch on his left wrist. However, X-rays came back clean and he won't wind up missing any starts.

Bogaerts went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Sundays 4-0 win over the Dodgers.
Bogaerts gave the Padres some extra breathing room with a solo shot off Gus Varland in the fifth. The long ball was his first since April 21, his first RBI since April 25 and his first hit in 17 at-bats since May 6. Bogaerts is still searching for a spark offensively this season, as he's slashing just .211/.264/.301 with three homers, 12 RBI, 22 runs and a 12:36 BB:K in 178 plate appearances.

Padres' Jackson Merrill: Impactful game in win
Merrill went 3-for-4 with two steals and a run scored in Sunday's 4-0 win over the Dodgers.
Merrill tallied at least three hits in a game for the fourth time this season and it was his 11th multi-hit game of his rookie campaign. Merrill hadn't swiped a bag since April 16 but managed to steal and eventually score in the fourth before taking another base in the eighth. He's settled in nicely thus far, slashing .282/.331/.374 with two homers, 16 RBI, 17 runs, six steals and a 10:23 BB:K in 143 plate appearances.

Padres' Jake Cronenworth: Goes back-to-back in first inning
Cronenworth went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 4-0 win over the Dodgers.
Cronenworth got things started for the Padres by going back-to-back with Fernando Tatis off Walker Buehler in the opening inning. He went hitless the rest of the afternoon but continues to be one of the Padres' best bats. He had a 12-game hit streak that came to an end Friday and has been showing increased power early on. His .503 slug percentage is fourth among all first basemen and is a significant personal improvement after averaging a .384 slugging over his last two seasons. For the year, Cronenworth is now slashing .285/.349/.503 with seven homers, 27 RBI, 20 runs and a 14:27 BB:K in 169 plate appearances.

Padres' Fernando Tatis: Leaves yard Sunday
Tatis went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Sunday's 4-0 win over the Dodgers.
Tatis got the Padres on the board early with a first inning solo blast off Walker Buehler. That's now at least a hit in eight of his last nine games, during which he's hitting .342 with a pair of home runs, five RBI and six runs scored. Tatis continues to steadily produce, slashing .257/.335/.449 with eight homers, 22 RBI, 29 runs, six steals and a 17:41 BB:K in 188 plate appearances.

Padres' Yu Darvish: Silences Dodgers over seven frames
Darvish (3-1) earned the win over the Dodgers on Sunday after firing seven shutout innings and allowing just two hits and a walk. He struck out seven.
Darvish extended his scoreless innings streak to 17 innings in another dominant outing since returning from the injured list April 30. He retired the first 14 hitters he faced in order until walking Andy Pages with two outs in the fifth. Darvish generated an excellent 19 whiffs and tied his season high with seven strikeouts. The 37-year-old owns a 2.43 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 37:12 K:BB in 40.2 innings and lines up for another tough task against Atlanta his next time out.

Padres' Ha-Seong Kim: Dealing with wrist injury
Kim was hit by a pitch on his left wrist in Sunday's 4-0 win over the Dodgers, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
Kim took a 94 mph fastball from Walker Buehler off his left wrist in the bottom of the fourth inning, ultimately exiting the contest the following frame. The infielder underwent X-rays on his arm following the contest that came back negative, according to manager Mike Shildt, which bodes well for Kim moving forward. The 28-year-old can be considered day-to-day for the time being ahead of San Diego's three-game series with the Rockies at home beginning Monday.

Padres' Matt Waldron: Hit with tough loss
Waldron (1-5) was tagged with the loss against the Dodgers on Saturday, allowing two runs on two hits and two walks over 5.1 innings while striking out six.
Waldron coughed up a solo home run to Freddie Freeman in the top of the first and was later charged with another run in the sixth after having to be relieved by Adrian Morejon with one out in the frame. The right-handed Waldron threw only 11 of 20 first pitches for strikes in the contest en route to taking his third consecutive loss. Waldron has now allowed a home run in each of his last five starts, going 1-4 over that stretch with a 19:9 K:BB.
