Rom underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder last week, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. It sounds as though the operation wound up being less invasive than initially anticipated, with a return before the end of the season for Rom not totally ruled out. The left-hander had been plagued by shoulder issues since mid-March before finally opting for surgery.... See More ... See Less

Cardinals' Drew Rom: Slated for shoulder surgery
Rom is expected to undergo left shoulder surgery, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. The exact nature of the operation isn't known yet, but surgery was recommended after Rom met with Dr. Keith Meister in Dallas on Tuesday. The surgery presumably would end Rom's 2024 season before it begins, but more information on a timeline should be known after the procedure.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Drew Rom: Getting opinion from specialist
Rom (biceps) will be examined by Dr. Keith Meister in Dallas on Tuesday, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Rom hasn't done any throwing since late March after being diagnosed with left biceps tendinitis and has not responded well to plyometric exercises. The Cardinals are hoping to get a clearer picture on Rom's status following Tuesday's visit.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Drew Rom: Lands on injured list
The Cardinals placed Rom (biceps) on the 15-day injured list Tuesday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. The left-hander recently took a step back from throwing due to a biceps injury and will be sidelined for at least the first couple weeks of the season. The specifics of the injury remain unclear, so Rom could be unavailable beyond the 15-day minimum.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Drew Rom: Nursing biceps issue
Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Thursday that Rom has taken a step back from throwing recently due to a left biceps issue, Lynn Worthy of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. He hasn't been fully shut down, but the injury helps explain why Rom hasn't made a Grapefruit League appearance in nearly a week. Once healthy, the left-hander is slated to open the season in Triple-A Memphis' rotation.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Drew Rom: Longshot for rotation
Rom allowed a walk and struck out one over two scoreless and hitless innings in his first Grapefruit League appearance. Rom was projected to pitch Sunday versus the Marlins, but that game was rained out. The 24-year-old lefty has long odds to make the Cardinals' rotation, even if the team begins the year with six starters. Rom should be expected to open the year at Triple-A Memphis, and he'll likely stay stretched out should the Cardinals need reinforcements in the summer.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Drew Rom: Hit hard by Padres
Rom (1-4) allowed eight runs (six earned) on 11 hits and a walk over 3.1 innings Sunday, striking out four and taking a loss against San Diego. Rom served up a three-run shot to Juan Soto in the first frame and allowed at least one run in each inning he appeared in. After his first career scoreless start, Rom has been tagged with 11 earned runs in just 6.2 innings over his last two outings. His ERA has shot up to 7.98 through 29.1 MLB frames. Rom is currently lined up to finish his 2023 campaign with a home matchup against the Reds.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Drew Rom: Excellent in first win
Rom (1-2) earned the win Wednesday, allowing two hits and three walks over 5.1 scoreless innings in a 1-0 victory over the Orioles. He struck out seven. Rom was impressive against a strong Baltimore lineup, delivering 5.1 scoreless innings while setting a season high with seven strikeouts in his first major-league win. After struggling through his first four starts, the rookie left-hander now sports a 5.96 ERA with a 1.76 WHIP and 18:13 K:BB through 22.2 innings. Rom will look to build on Wednesday's performance in his next outing, currently scheduled for next week against the Brewers.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Drew Rom: Better in second start
Rom (0-2) took the loss Sunday, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk over 5.1 innings against the Phillies. He struck out six. It was certainly a better performance from Rom after he allowed eight runs (six earned) across 3.2 innings in his big-league debut. Still, the rookie left-hander took a second loss as the Cardinals offense couldn't crack Aaron Nola in a 3-0 defeat. Rom had shown some promise in the minors this season, working to a 2.70 ERA while striking out 45 over his last seven Triple-A starts (33.1 innings). Sunday's outing could earn him another shot in the Cardinals' rotation -- Rom would currently line up for a home matchup with the Pirates next week.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Drew Rom: Recalled from Triple-A
Rom was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk by the Orioles on Tuesday. It will be the first stint in the big leagues for Rom, who was added to the Orioles' 40-man roster over the offseason. The left-hander has been starting at Norfolk, posting a 2.87 ERA in six outings, but he'll be pegged for relief duty in Baltimore for now, per Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com.... See More ... Orioles' Drew Rom: Added to 40-man roster
Rom was added to the Orioles' 40-man roster Tuesday. One of Baltimore's top lefty pitching prospects, Rom missed plenty of bats last year at Double-A and Triple-A (144 strikeouts in 120 innings), but he also had a 1.48 WHIP. More development is needed before he can be expected to have sustained success against big-league hitters, but he could make his big-league debut sometime in 2023.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Drew Rom: Promoted to Double-A
The Orioles promoted Rom from High-A Aberdeen to Double-A Bowie on Tuesday, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports. Rom will move up a rung on the minor-league ladder after submitting a 2.79 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 73:17 K:BB in 67.2 innings. The 21-year-old lefty was part of the Orioles' 2018 draft class, which also included one of the top pitching prospects in all of baseball in first-round selection Grayson Rodriguez.... See More ...
