Garver went 2-for-2 with a home run, two walks, two RBI and two runs scored in a win over the Athletics on Thursday. Garver was a one-man wrecking crew for Seattle, delivering an RBI single in the fourth inning before putting an exclamation point on the M's shutout victory with a ninth-inning solo blast. While Thursday's performance marked the veteran catcher's second two-hit effort and second multi-RBI performance in the last four games, Garver's first two months-plus in Seattle have been highly disappointing -- he's sitting on a .175 batting average and .612 OPS through his first 200 plate appearances, and his 30.5 percent strikeout rate is his highest since he whiffed at a 45.7 percent clip during the COVID-shortened 2020 season.... Mariners' Mitch Garver: Sitting down Wednesday
Garver isn't in the Mariners' lineup for Wednesday's game against the Athletics. Garver appeared to break out of his slump Sunday with a 2-for-4 performance against the Angels, but he will now get a breather following Tuesday's 0-for-3 outing. Mitch Haniger will fill in as Seattle's designated hitter while batting seventh.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Mitch Garver: Ends slump Sunday
Garver went 2-for-4 with a three-run double in Sunday's 5-1 win over the Angels. Garver entered Sunday 0-for-20 over his last seven games. His last extra-base hit was May 21, and he hadn't knocked in a run since May 17. He was able to put an end to all of those slumps, delivering a big knock in the eighth inning to give the Mariners some breathing room. The 33-year-old has struggled to get anything going at the plate this year, slashing .170/.276/.309 with five home runs, 17 RBI, 18 runs scored and eight doubles over 192 plate appearances as Seattle's primary designated hitter.... Mariners' Mitch Garver: Taking seat Saturday
Garver is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Nationals, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports. Garver will begin Saturday's game in the dugout after going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in the series opener Friday. The lefty-hitting Dominic Canzone will serve as the designated hitter and bat fifth against Nationals right-hander Trevor Williams, while Dylan Moore draws the start in left field.... See More ... Mariners' Mitch Garver: Sitting again Monday
Garver is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Yankees. Garver returned to action Friday after missing a couple games due to back spasms, but he now finds himself on the bench for a second straight contest. Mitch Haniger will serve as the designated hitter while Luke Raley receives a start in the outfield.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Mitch Garver: Not in Sunday's lineup
Garver is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles. Garver started the first two games of the series after missing the previous two contests with back spasms, and he'll sit for Sunday's finale. Cal Raleigh will rest his legs as the designated hitter while Seby Zavala starts behind the plate.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Mitch Garver: Drives in run in return
Garver (back) went 1-for-4 with an RBI single in a loss to the Orioles on Friday. Garver was back in the lineup after missing the last two games with back spasms, and he delivered the first run of the contest with his first-inning single. The veteran offseason addition now has seven RBI in May and has reached safely in eight of the last 10 games, but he's still carrying an abysmal .176/.286/.344 slash line across 147 plate appearances on the season.... Mariners' Mitch Garver: Back in lineup
Garver (back) is batting third as the designated hitter for Friday's game against Baltimore. Garver was scratched Tuesday with back spasms and was forced to miss Wednesday's contest. However, he'll be back in action for Friday's series opener against the Orioles. In May, Garver is batting .244 (10-for-41) with two homers and seven RBI.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Mitch Garver: Out Wednesday with back spasms
Garver (back) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Royals, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports. He'll remain on the bench for the second day in a row while he manages upper-back spasms. Mitch Haniger will get a day out of the outfield and serve as the Mariners' designated hitter while Garver rests up.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Mitch Garver: Battling back spasms
Garver was scratched from Seattle's lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against Kansas City due to upper-back spasms, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports. The 33-year-old backstop missed a few games in March due to back spasms, though manager Scott Servais said Garver's current injury is unrelated to his previous issue. No timeline was given for his return, but it's possible the M's hold him out for a game or two in order to allow him to properly recover.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Mitch Garver: Late scratch Tuesday
Garver (undisclosed) was scratched from the Mariners' lineup Tuesday versus the Royals. Garver was originally set to operate as the team's designated hitter and bat third Tuesday, but he'll now take a seat. It's unclear what caused the 33-year-old to be scratched, and more information will likely be provided following the contest. In the meantime, Mitch Haniger will slot in at designated hitter while Sam Haggerty will enter the lineup in left field and bat ninth against Kansas City.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Mitch Garver: Homers, plates three RBI in win
Garver went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, a walk and three RBI in Sunday's 8-4 win over the Athletics. Garver extended the Mariners' lead with a two-run blast in the fifth and also got things rolling for the M's with an RBI single in the opening frame. The two hits ended a mini three-game slump for the 33-year-old, though he's still been hitting well in May, slashing .300/.405/.567 with two homers, six RBI and five runs over his last eight games.... Mariners' Mitch Garver: Lifts fourth homer Wednesday
Garver went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in a loss to the Twins on Wednesday. Garver's fourth-inning solo shot to right field put the Mariners on the board and served as his third time leaving the yard in the last 11 contests. Garver has also reached safely in six consecutive games, perhaps a sign he's finally beginning to work out of the extended slump that's defined the first month-plus of his tenure in Seattle.... Mariners' Mitch Garver: Swats pair of doubles Saturday
Garver went 2-for-5 with an RBI double and another two-bagger in a win over the Astros on Saturday. Garver plated Jorge Polanco with his fourth-inning double, giving him his fourth RBI over the last seven games. The veteran offseason acquisition's solid performance Saturday notwithstanding, the early portion of his Mariners tenure qualifies as a considerable disappointment that's illustrated by his anemic .152/.262/.315 slash line and 32.7 percent strikeout rate across 107 plate appearances.... Mariners' Mitch Garver: Wins game with walk-off homer
Garver went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk Monday in a 2-1 win over Atlanta. It's been a rough season for Garver, as he's slashing just .150/.266/.313 through 94 plate appearances. However, Seattle has stuck with him as the team's primary DH, and that decision paid off Monday when he launched a two-run, ninth-inning shot to give the Mariners a come-from-behind win. Garver could be building a bit of momentum, as he's gone deep in two of his past four games.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Mitch Garver: On bench for Game 2
Garver is not in the starting lineup for Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader in Colorado. Garver will take a seat after he went 0-for-4 with two punchouts in the team's 2-1 extra-inning Game 1 loss Sunday. Cal Raleigh will slot in at designated hitter while Seby Zavala enters the lineup at catcher and bats ninth in the nightcap.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Mitch Garver: Slugs first homer
Garver went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in a win over the Reds on Wednesday. Garver finally connected on his first round tripper of the season in the sixth inning, snapping a 1-1 tie with a 393-foot shot to left field off Andrew Abbott. The veteran's blast also served as his fourth extra-base hit overall (out of eight total hits), but he's still sporting an ugly .160/.283/.280 slash line through his first 60 plate appearances.... Mariners' Mitch Garver: Reaches in first two games back
Garver went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk in a loss to the Guardians on Tuesday. The noteworthy offseason acquisition laced one of four two-baggers on the night for the Mariners, with the double serving as his first hit since returning from a two-game absence due to back spasms. Garver had also reached safely in his first game back Monday, however, drawing a free pass and scoring a run over four plate appearances. The fact he was able to suit up in back-to-back games implies Garver is past his physical issues for the time being.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Mitch Garver: Still sitting Sunday
Garver (back) is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox. The 33-year-old was scratched from the lineup Friday due to back spasms and will be sidelined Sunday for the third consecutive contest. Mitch Haniger will receive a turn at designated hitter while Luke Raley starts in right field. Garver should be considered day-to-day until the team updates his status.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Mitch Garver: Remains out Saturday
Garver (back) isn't in the Mariners' lineup Saturday against Boston. Garver was scratched from the lineup ahead of Friday's contest due to back spasms, and he will seemingly require another day before he can return to the lineup. Jorge Polanco will serve as Seattle's DH while Garver recovers, allowing Dylan Moore to pick up a start at second base.... See More ... See Less
