Candelario (neck) is in the lineup for Monday's game against the Cardinals. He was scratched from Saturday's lineup due to neck stiffness and held out Sunday as well, but evidently Candelario is feeling better. The 30-year-old will return to third base and bat third against right-hander Lance Lynn. While the rest of the Reds' offense has sunk in May, Candelario has rebounded with an .835 OPS, five doubles and a couple homers in his last 17 games.... See More ... See Less

Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Still out Sunday
Candelario (neck) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers. Candelario will miss out on a second straight start due to neck stiffness, but he said he'll be available off the bench for the series finale, per Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer. Santiago Espinal will fill in at third base for Candelario.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Scratched Saturday
Candelario was scratched from the Reds' lineup Saturday due to neck stiffness. The Reds haven't provided any information on the severity of Candelario's injury, but it is apparently bothering him enough to hold him out of Saturday's contest. Santiago Espinal will enter the lineup to cover third base while batting ninth.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Moves to upper half of order
Candelario batted third and went 1-for-4 for with a walk, a triple, an RBI and a caught stealing in Thursday's 6-4 extra-inning loss to the Padres. Candelario tripled a run home in the first inning then was thrown out at home on a double-steal attempt to end the frame. He was later removed for a pinch runner in the 10th inning after he had walked. A recent hot stretch prompted a move up the batting order; Candelario has batted third or fourth in four straight contests. Over his last 12 contests, he's slashing .261/.320/.457 with four doubles, a triple, a homer, four runs and seven RBI.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Stays hot in loss
Candelario went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in Monday's 6-5 loss to the Diamondbacks. Candelario, who has multiple hits in three of the last six games, is heating up. He's 9-for-24 during that stretch with two doubles, a home run and six RBI. The resurrected bat prompted a move up the order to fifth, after Candelario spent time in the lower third since mid-April.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Drives in three
Candelario went 1-for-5 with a double and three RBI in Sunday's 6-5 extra-inning loss to the Giants. Candelario nearly missed a grand slam in the first inning and settled for a three-run double. This was just his second multi-RBI effort in 34 games this season. He's still battling a season-opening slump, but Candelario's bat has shown life of late. He's hit safely in four of the last five games, going 7-for-20 with a home run, two doubles and five RBI. Perhaps this recent five-game run will prompt a move up the batting order -- Candelario opened as the team's cleanup hitter but has since moved to the lower-third. The Reds are last in MLB with a .556 OPS out of the cleanup spot.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Fills in at first base
Candelario started at first base and went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Wednesday's 4-3 loss to Arizona. Candelario moved across the diamond from third base to cover first for Christian Encarnacion-Strand (hand), who is expected to miss four-to-six weeks. Candelario is one of several Cincinnati bats off to a slow start; the three-hit night raised his season average to .206, just the second day it's been above .200. Santiago Espinal took over for Candelario at third base.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Back in action Tuesday
Candelario (shin) is starting at third base and batting eighth Tuesday against the Diamondbacks. The 30-year-old was scratched from Sunday's starting nine due to a left shin contusion but is good to go following Monday's team off day. Candelario's .634 OPS for the season remains unimpressive, but he's gone 6-for-18 with a double and a homer over his past five contests.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Scratched with shin contusion
Candelario was scratched from Sunday's lineup against the Orioles due to a left shin contusion, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. Candelario was penciled in at third base but won't start as scheduled due to the injury. He'll have Monday's team off day to rest up before Tuesday's series opener versus Arizona. Santiago Espinal will step in at the hot corner Sunday.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Homers in loss
Candelario went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 6-4 loss to San Diego. Candelario and Stuart Fairchild each homered in the seventh inning, closing a four-run deficit to two. It was the second consecutive game with multiple hits for Candelario, who endured an 0-for-19 slump heading into the series against the Padres. He's hitting .189/.282/.378 with three homers and nine RBI through 103 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Covers first base in win
Candelario started at first base and went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Monday's 5-2 win over the Padres. Candelario filled in at first base for Christian Encarnacion-Strand (hand), who was available off the bench. His second-inning double put an end to an 0-for-19 skid, and he eventually scored on a balk. The slumping corner infielder has spent just two days this season with average of .200 or better.... Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Gets breather Saturday
Candelario isn't in the Reds' lineup for Saturday's game against the Rangers. Candelario will get a chance to clear his head Saturday after going 0-for-15 with eight strikeouts across his last five games. Santiago Espinal will step in to cover third base instead while batting ninth.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Returns to lineup Saturday
Candelario (illness) is starting at third base and hitting in the cleanup spot for Saturday's game against the Angels. Candelario has missed the Reds' last three games after he was a late scratch for Tuesday's game against the Mariners due to an illness. Candelario and first baseman Christian Encarnacion-Strand will both return to the starting lineup Saturday against Angels left-hander Patrick Sandoval.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Held out again Friday
Candelario (illness) remains out of the lineup for Friday's contest versus the Angels. There's a bug going around the Reds' clubhouse, as Christian Encarnacion-Strand will also miss a second straight game. Santiago Espinal will be at third base Friday.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Not ready to start Wednesday
Candelario (illness) remains out of the lineup Wednesday in Seattle. He'll give way to Santiago Espinal at third base for a second game in a row while he recovers from an illness. The Reds are off Thursday, so Candelario will have some additional time to shake off the ailment before Cincinnati opens its homestand Friday versus the Angels.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Scratched with illness
Candelario was scratched from the Reds' lineup ahead of Tuesday's game versus Seattle due to an illness. Candelario was reportedly feeling under the weather Tuesday, so he will sit out while he recovers. Santiago Espinal will enter the lineup as Cincinnati's replacement third baseman and bat eighth.... Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Bops homer in loss
Candelario went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Monday's 9-3 loss to the Mariners. Candelario, who slumped to start the season, hit safely for a third straight game following a two-day break (including a team day off) from playing. The home run was the second of the season for the corner infielder, whose average ticked up to .190 through 15 games.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Dropped in batting order
Candelario went 2-for-5 with two RBI, a run scored and was caught stealing in Sunday's 11-4 win over the White Sox. Candelario delivered his first multi-hit effort of the season, including a two-run single in the fourth inning. Another first for the infielder was his placement in the batting order; Candelario's first 13 starts were at cleanup, but a season-opening slump dropped him to seventh Sunday against a right-hander. It's unclear if the switch-hitting Candelario will also be dropped against left-handers. On Monday, the Reds kick off a three-game set against the Mariners, who have righties scheduled to start all three contests.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Returns to action
Candelario went 1-for-4 with a double and run scored in Saturday's 5-0 win over the White Sox.
