Fried (4-2) earned the win over the Cubs on Wednesday, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits in a complete game. He struck out nine. Fried dominated the Cubs' lineup in his second complete game of the season, retiring the first 15 batters he faced before surrendering a leadoff double to Ian Happ to open the bottom of the sixth. The lefty produced 18 whiffs in the contest and finished with a season-high nine strikeouts, while also not issuing any walks for first time in his last five starts. He's now gone at least seven innings in three of his last four outings, posting a 23:9 K:BB over that stretch.... See More ... See Less

Braves' Max Fried: Tagged for nine hits in loss
Fried (3-2) took the loss Friday against the Padres, yielding three runs on nine hits and three walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out two. Fried turned in his worst outing since allowing seven runs on 10 hits against Arizona on April 6. The Atlanta lefty generated a measly four whiffs over his 88 pitches as the Padres lineup had his number all night. Fried will look to bounce back in his next start, slated to come against the Cubs in Chicago.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Max Fried: Fires seven hitless frames
Fried (3-1) earned the win over the Mets on Saturday, allowing three walks while striking out five batters over seven scoreless and hitless innings. Fried threw 109 pitches during his seven frames, so manager Brian Snitker didn't allow him to push any further for an individual no-hitter. Atlanta's bullpen carried the no-no into the ninth inning before J.D. Martinez ended the combined bid with a two-out solo homer off Raisel Iglesias. Though he didn't etch his name in the record books, Fried bounced back very nicely after giving up four runs over seven frames and picking up his first loss in his previous outing. He's now notched four quality starts on the campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Max Fried: Hurt by long ball in loss
Fried (2-1) took the loss Sunday against the Dodgers, allowing four runs on four hits and three walks while striking out seven over seven innings. Fried quickly surrendered a two-run homer to Shohei Ohtani in the opening frame. He was able to settle in thereafter, blanking the Dodgers over the next four innings before Teoscar Hernandez got a hold of one in the sixth to make it a 4-0 ballgame. Sunday was Fried's first outing this year giving up multiple home runs, but he's also gone at least six innings in three straight while striking out at least six in all three appearances. The 30-year-old owns a 4.23 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 32:14 K:BB in 38.1 innings thus far and lines up to face the Mets in his next start.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Max Fried: Fires six hitless frames
Fried pitched six scoreless and hitless innings against Seattle on Monday, walking two batters and striking out seven in a no-decision. Fried was dominant in the outing, racking up 15 swinging strikes and allowing just two baserunners, both of whom reached via walk. However, he didn't get a chance to try to extend his no-hit bid beyond the sixth frame because he needed 100 pitches just to get that deep. Still, he was in line for the victory until A.J. Minter gave up a walk-off homer to Mitch Garver in the ninth frame. Fried began the campaign with two poor starts but has turned things around since, tossing three quality starts among his past four outings. He hasn't given up any runs across 15 frames over his past two starts.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Max Fried: Delivers fourth career shutout
Fried (2-0) threw a complete-game shutout Tuesday in Atlanta's 5-0 win over Miami, striking out six while allowing three hits and no walks. Fried's performance Tuesday marked the fourth time he's thrown a complete-game shutout in his career and was the third time he's done so in less than 100 pitches, needing just 92 pitches to get 27 outs. Despite his incredible showing, the 30-year-old southpaw still owns a 4.97 ERA through his first five starts, but he'll have plenty of momentum on his side heading into his next outing -- tentatively scheduled for Monday in Seattle.... Braves' Max Fried: Control wavers Wednesday
Fried came away with a no-decision in Wednesday's 5-4 extra-inning win over the Astros, giving up three runs on seven hits and four walks over five innings. He struck out two. The southpaw also uncorked a wild pitch and tossed only 52 of his 96 pitches for strikes, continuing a somewhat shaky start to the season. Fried has managed only one quality start in his four trips to the mound, and while his 7.71 ERA and 1.96 WHIP will come down, his 12:9 K:BB through 16.1 innings has been far from dominant. He'll try to get on track in his next outing, which lines up for a home start against the Marlins early next week.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Max Fried: Stifles Miami for first win
Fried (1-0) picked up the win in Friday's 8-1 rout of the Marlins, allowing one run on four hits and a walk over 6.1 innings while striking out four. The southpaw rebounded nicely from a rough couple of outings to begin the season, taking a shutout into the seventh inning and tossing 49 of 84 pitches for strikes. Fried's overall numbers remain alarming, but he's more than capable of bringing down his 8.74 ERA and 1.85 WHIP quickly. He lines up for a tough test in his next start, which is scheduled for next week on the road in Houston.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Max Fried: Rocked in no-decision
Fried was charged with eight runs (seven earned) on 10 hits and one walk over 4.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Diamondbacks on Saturday. He struck out five. Fried didn't make it out of the first inning in his first start of the season against the Phillies and he barely made it out of the first frame in this one, getting bludgeoned for six runs on seven hits and a walk. He deserves some credit for mostly settling in after that, and Atlanta's offense eventually got him off the hook by scoring nine runs over their final five innings. Fried will surely right the ship and be fine, but it's undoubtedly been a frustrating start to the season for him and for his fantasy managers.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Max Fried: Gets early hook Saturday
Fried recorded only two outs Saturday against the Phillies before being lifted, giving up three runs on two hits and three walks while striking out one. He came away with a no-decision. The southpaw had a disastrous start to his 2024, throwing 23 of 43 pitches for strikes before getting the hook, but he avoided a loss after Atlanta hung seven runs on Aaron Nola in an eventual 12-4 win. Fried struggled with injuries last year but was effective when he was on the mound, posting a 2.55 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 25.7 percent strikeout rate over 77.2 innings, so while this performance was a little shocking, it did come against a tough opponent. He'll try to shake it off in his next start, which lines up to come at home next weekend against the Diamondbacks.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Max Fried: Fades late in Monday's start
Fried gave up four runs (three earned) on six hits and a walk over six inning in Monday's Grapefruit League start against the Rays. He struck out four. The lefty blanked Tampa Bay for five innings before running into trouble in the sixth with a minor-league defense behind him, getting tagged for three straight singles to begin the frame. Fried's spring numbers don't stand out, but he built up to nearly 90 pitches Monday and looks ready for the regular season to begin. Atlanta's No. 2 starter made only 14 trips to the mound in 2023 due to a variety of injuries, but he posted a 2.55 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 80:18 K:BB through 77.2 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Max Fried: Settles with Atlanta at $15 million
Atlanta and Fried avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $15 million contract Thursday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. The was Fried's final year of arbitration eligibility, as he's currently slated for free agency next offseason. He was limited to 14 starts in 2023 because of injury but was terrific when healthy, holding a 2.55 ERA and 80:18 K:BB over 77.2 innings of work. Fried will enter spring training with no restrictions.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Max Fried: Will return for Game 2
Fried (finger) will start Monday against the Phillies in Game 2 of the NLDS. Fried finished the regular season on the injured list due to a blister on his left index finger, but the issue seems to have subsided as Atlanta prepares to begin its postseason run. Fried most recently faced the Phillies on Sept. 12, allowing just one run on four hits and two walks while striking out six batters through five innings.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Max Fried: Remains on track for NLDS Game 2
Fried (finger) remains on track to start Game 2 of the NLDS on Monday after throwing five innings in a simulated game Tuesday, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. Fried wore a protective bandage across the blister on his left index finger, which he won't be able to wear in an actual game, but he avoided any setbacks in the 76-pitch outing against his Atlanta teammates and should get the call in NLDS Game 2 next week after Spencer Strider handles Game 1. When healthy this season, Fried delivered a sharp 2.55 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 80:18 K:BB in 77.2 innings (14 starts) for the National League East champions.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Max Fried: Lining up for Game 2
Fried (finger) is scheduled to pitch in a moderated game Tuesday, which lines him up to start Game 2 of the NLDS on Oct. 9, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. Fried landed on the 15-day injured list Sept. 22 with a blister on his index finger, but the team was always hoping to get him back for the postseason. The left-hander should be good to go assuming he has no issues when throwing Tuesday, which would be huge for Atlanta since Charlie Morton (finger) also went down with an injury shortly after Fried.... Braves' Max Fried: Placed on IL with blister issue
Fried was placed on the 15-day injured list Friday with a blister on his left index finger. The lefty developed the blister during Thursday's win over the Nationals. While Atlanta is expected to get the left-hander back for the postseason, Fried will not make another regular-season start. He finishes with an 8-1 record, 2.55 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 80:18 K:BB over 77.2 innings covering 14 starts.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Max Fried: Shuts down Nationals
Fried (8-1) earned the win Thursday over the Nationals, allowing one run on three hits and one walk over six innings. He struck out seven. Fried hasn't missed a beat since returning from an elbow injury Aug. 4. The seven-year veteran has made nine starts during that span, producing a 2.78 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 55:12 K:BB over 51.2 innings. Fried is scheduled to make his next start at home against the Cubs.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Max Fried: Scheduled to start Thursday
Fried (finger) is scheduled to start Thursday's game in Washington, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Fried received the green light to return to Atlanta's rotation after throwing a bullpen session Monday without any protective tape covering the small blister on his left hand. The 29-year-old southpaw hasn't appeared in a game since early last week, but it never seemed to be a serious concern for the NL East champions.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Max Fried: Throws bullpen session
Fried threw a bullpen session Monday without any protective tape covering the blister on his left index finger, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. Fried was skipped on his last turn through rotation because of the blister, but he is expected to return to action at some point during Atlanta's upcoming four-game series in Washington, which begins Thursday. It seems like the NL East champions are simply playing things cautiously with the 29-year-old southpaw, who boasts a 2.64 ERA and 73:13 K:BB in 71.2 innings (13 starts) this season.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Max Fried: May return for next series
Fried isn't expected to make his next turn through the Atlanta rotation until the team's four-game series in Washington over the weekend after he developed a hot spot on one of his fingers in his most recent start this past Tuesday in Philadelphia, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Atlanta isn't overly concerned about the issue, and with the National League East division crown already secured, the team can afford to proceed cautiously with one of its top starters. Even if Fried is cleared to pitch later this week as anticipated, he could still have his workload managed to some degree as Atlanta looks to ensure that he's not too overworked heading into what the team anticipates will be a long postseason run....
