Stanton was elevated to the Buccaneers' active roster for Sunday's Super Bowl against the Chiefs, and he unsurprisingly failed to take a snap.

Buccaneers' Drew Stanton: Joins Bucs' active roster
Stanton was promoted to the team's active roster Saturday, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
Stanton has not thrown an NFL pass since 2017, but he'll join the Bucs ahead of their Super Bowl matchup with the Chiefs. The veteran will essentially act as the super emergency quarterback come Sunday.

Drew Stanton: Joining Bucs' practice squad
Tampa Bay plans to sign Stanton to their practice squad, Peter Schrager of FoxSports.com reports.
Stanton last threw an NFL pass in 2017, when he played in five games and totaled 894 yards along with a 6:5 TD:INT with Arizona. His time with the Cardinals gives Stanton familiarity with Bruce Arians' offense, which likely played a key role in the Tampa Bay's decision to give the 36-year-old a look.

Browns' Drew Stanton: Finishes year on IR
Stanton (knee) didn't play a game during the 2019 season.
Stanton was placed on injured reserve Sept. 16 and was never activated. He'll turn 36 years old in May, and Stanton hasn't played an NFL game since the 2017 season with the Cardinals when he completed 79 of 159 passes (50 percent) for 894 yards, six touchdowns and five interceptions. Stanton will be an unrestricted free agent in March, and he'll seek another backup role if he wishes to continue playing.

Coach Freddie Kitchens said he doesn't feel the need to sign another quarterback since Garrett Gilbert is currently backing up Baker Mayfield and Stanton could still return. Stanton would likely be the team's No. 1 backup if he returned, but he wouldn't play unless Mayfield was injured. The career backup last played with the Cardinals, completing 50 percent of his passes for 894 yards, six touchdowns and five interceptions over five games.

Stanton appears in line to serve as the backup to Baker Mayfield in 2019 with Garrett Gilbert on the Week 1 inactive list, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Even though Stanton appeared in just two preseason games and completed only six of his 14 pass attempts, this quarterback alignment was all but a given in Cleveland. He'll only hold fantasy utility in the event of an injury to starter Baker Mayfield, in which case Stanton would offer at least a small amount of intrigue due to the quality of offensive weapons at his disposal. That being said, the 35-year-old hasn't seen meaningful game action since 2017 with the Cardinals, when he completed just 49.7 percent of his passes across five contests.

Browns' Drew Stanton: Handling backup duties in Week 4
Stanton will serve as the top backup to starting quarterback Baker Mayfield in Sunday's game against the Raiders, a team official told Sam Wyche of NFL Network reports.
Stanton has been the third man on the depth chart all season, but he'll move up a spot this week with Tyrod Taylor dealing with a back injury and only having recently cleared the NFL's concussion protocol. Once Taylor is able to get more practice time under his belt, he should recapture the No. 2 gig, which will likely result in Stanton being inactive most weeks.

Stanton, who didn't play in Cleveland's first preseason game, is still in the mix to be the backup quarterback, though Baker Mayfield should still be viewed as the favorite. However, Jackson likes the experience Stanton brings to the position, and a strong showing from the veteran in the preseason could make the Browns' decision more difficult, according to Petrak.
