Cowboys' Jeremy Sprinkle: Sitting out practice

Sprinkle missed a week of practice in the beginning of August with the injury, but he had been participating since his return. Sprinkle was sidelined for a week after an Achilles issue flared up, but as expected, the injury wasn't severe and he's already back at practice. The 2017 fifth-round pick agreed to terms on another one-year deal this offseason after the tight end recorded his fewest offensive snaps in 2021 since he was a rookie. With Dalton Schultz locked in as the starter, expect the 6-foot-5, 252-pound Sprinkle to compete with rookie Jake Ferguson and Sean McKeon for a depth role in 2022.

While Sprinkle played in nearly every game for a fourth straight year, the 2017 fifth-round pick was primary used as a blocker during the 2021 campaign and caught just three passes for 31 yards. Sprinkle caught his only target for 10 yards in Saturday's 51-26 win over the Eagles.
The tight end saw more than 20 snaps on offense for only the third time this season, and the reception also was his third of the year. He's provided solid depth for Dallas as a blocker, particularly while Blake Jarwin was sidelined, but with Jarwin off injured reserve to reclaim the No. 2 spot on the depth chart, Sprinkle isn't likely to get a chance to make an impact in the playoffs.

Sprinkle caught both his targets for 21 yards in Sunday's 21-6 win over the Giants.
The fifth-year tight end has passed Sean McKeon on the depth chart to take the No. 2 spot, playing 24 percent of the offensive snaps Sunday to McKeon's eight percent and seeing a larger role on special teams as well. Neither one has much fantasy value behind Dalton Schultz, but Sprinkle might get a red-zone look or two Week 16 if the Cowboys try to set him up for a revenge game against his former Washington club.
