Donte Moncrief: Released by Texans
Moncrief was released by the Texans with a non-football injury designation Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Moncrief was signed by the team in March and was expected to compete for a roster spot in training camp. However, the acquisition of Anthony Miller may have been enough to convince the team to cut Moncrief loose, even given reports that Randall Cobb could also be off the roster soon following a trade with Green Bay.

Texans' Donte Moncrief: Houston bound
Moncrief is signing a one-year contract with the Texans, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Moncrief hasn't been relevant for fantasy purposes since putting up fringe flex-worthy numbers back in 2018 with Jacksonville. With the Patriots last season he mostly worked on special teams and will likely have to compete to earn a spot on the Texans' roster this season.

Moncrief logged 13 snaps -- all on special teams -- Sunday in the Patriots' 28-14 win over the Jets.
Despite the Patriots' dearth of promising options at receiver, Moncrief never garnered much of a look on offense. Over his six appearances, Moncrief recorded one reception for 15 yards on two targets and carried once for four yards. Moncrief flashed some ability as a kick returner with 165 yards on seven returns, but he may not have made enough of an impression to earn a spot with the Patriots heading into 2021.

Moncrief (thigh) is considered questionable for Sunday's game against the Jets after practicing in a limited capacity Friday.
Moncrief's thigh issue dates back to New England's Week 14 Thursday night loss to the Rams. He was held out the subsequent game against Miami but proved capable of returning to the lineup for Monday night's 38-9 blowout loss to Buffalo, collecting 74 yards on four kickoff returns during the contest. Kyle Dugger and J.J. Taylor would be slated for increased opportunities on returns were Moncrief to miss the season finale.

It's not surprising to see Moncrief officially join the active roster, but it is telling he leap-frogged Isaiah Ford, whom the Patriots gave up draft compensation for, to earn one of the final spots on the team's wide receiver corps. Moncrief has hardly played much offensively in his two games with the team, but a 53-yard kick return last week likely made him a valuable commodity from a special teams perspective.

Donte Moncrief: Heads back to practice squad
Moncrief reverted to New England's practice squad Monday after going untargeted on one offensive snap and returning two kickoffs for 75 yards during Sunday's 20-17 win against Arizona, Jim McBride of The Boston Globe reports.
Moncrief brought back his second kick-return attempt of the day for 53 yards, but he otherwise made little noise in his second game as a Patriot. With a splash play on special teams Sunday, the 27-year-old may get another shot Week 13 when 5-6 New England travels to take on the Chargers.
