  • Commanders' Jeff Driskel: Joining Washington's QB corps

    The Commanders have signed Driskel.

Driskel, who has appeared in 24 regular-season contests (including 12 starts) during his NFL career, last saw game action Week 18 with the Browns when he drew a spot start in place of Joe Flacco, who the team elected to rest ahead of the 2023 postseason. With the Commanders, Driskel adds depth to a QB corps that also includes Marcus Mariota and Jake Fromm and likely will be rounded out by a first-round rookie later this month.

  • Browns' Jeff Driskel: Serving as No. 3 QB

Driskel (coach's decision) is inactive for Saturday's game against the Texans.

Despite offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt's comments Wednesday about Driskel serving as the Browns' top backup in their wild-card matchup, he'll be the team's emergency third QB. PJ Walker is active and will backup Joe Flacco on Saturday.

  • Browns' Jeff Driskel: Will be backup Saturday

Offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt said Wednesday that Driskel will be the top backup to starting quarterback Joe Flacco in Saturday's wild-card game at Houston, Jake Trotter of ESPN.com reports.

While filing in as the starter for a resting Flacco in Week 18, Driskel had an uninspiring performance in Sunday's 31-14 loss at Cincinnati. The journeyman signal-caller completed 13 of 26 attempts for 166 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions, with both scores coming in the fourth quarter when the outcome was all but decided. The Browns apparently saw enough from Driskel to keep him ahead of No. 3 quarterback PJ Walker as the team opens its playoff run.

  • Browns' Jeff Driskel: Throws two late TDs in spot start

Driskel completed 13 of 26 passes for 166 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's 31-14 loss to the Bengals. He added 33 yards on seven rushing attempts.

Driskel struggled in his spot start with Joe Flacco resting, as his two interceptions helped the Bengals build a 31-0 lead. The journeyman quarterback salvaged his stat line with fourth-quarter touchdowns of 31 yards and 24 yards to David Bell. Flacco will start in the wild-card round against the Texans, and while the backup job was up in the air between Driskel and PJ Walker heading into the regular-season finale, Driskel likely lost that competition with Sunday's poor performance.

  • Browns' Jeff Driskel: Set to start Sunday

Driskel will serve as the Browns' starting quarterback for Sunday's game against the Bengals, Jake Trotter of ESPN.com reports.

Given that the Browns are locked in as the No. 5 playoff seed in the AFC playoffs, veteran starter Joe Flacco is slated to be rested in Week 18. As a result, Driskel will get the nod in Sunday's regular-season finale and will be backed up by PJ Walker. Driskel represents a lineup option -- albeit a risky one -- for those inclined to take a chance in DFS contests on a quarterback with some rushing upside. The 30-year-old signal-caller has completed just 59.2 percent of his passes for 6.1 yards per attempt over 23 games (11 starts) in parts of five seasons with the Bengals, Lions, Broncos and Texans, but he's carried 73 times for 384 yards (5.3 average) and three touchdowns.

  • Browns' Jeff Driskel: Signs with Browns

The Browns signed Driskel to their active roster from the Cardinals' practice squad Friday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

With Deshaun Watson (shoulder) and Dorian Thompson-Robinson (hip) both likely out for the rest of the season, Cleveland saw fit to add some depth at quarterback ahead of the postseason. Over twenty passes with Houston last year, Driskel averaged a dismal 5.4 yards per attempt. It should be noted that the Texans also used Driskel as a gadget player who had 20 rush attempts in 2022. The Broncos before the Texans used Driskel in a similar fashion, not unlike how the Browns used Thompson-Robinson after Joe Flacco assumed the starting role.
