Carradine missed the first half of the 2017 season with a knee injury but recorded 19 tackles (14 solo) and 1.5 sacks in the final eight games of the season with San Francisco. The 29-year-old is likely to serve a rotational role for the Raiders' defensive line unit in 2018.

49ers' Tank Carradine: Decent in partial season
Carradine spent eight games on injured reserve with a knee injury, finishing with 19 tackles (14 solo) and 1.5 sacks during the 2017 campaign.
Carradine began the year as the 49ers' Leo defensive end, as his ability to play both end and linebacker profiled nicely for the prominent position in Robert Saleh's modified 4-3 defense. Seeing 20-30 defensive snaps per game on passing downs, the 28-year-old was able to notch a sack in three games before going down to a knee injury that cost him eight contests. The Leo was eventually going to be rookie Solomon Thomas' position anyhow, but the veteran's injury allowed the 49ers' first-round selection to kick-start his development a little sooner than expected. Carradine will be an unrestricted free agent at the beginning of the new league year, and given the glut of younger defensive linemen at the team's disposal, it would be surprising if he was retained.

The 49ers activated Carradine off injured reserve ahead of Sunday's game against the Seahawks, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Carridine was placed on injured reserve with a designation to return following the 49ers' Week 3 loss to the Rams. He has been practicing with the team the last two weeks and finally appears set to return Sunday barring any setbacks. He is likely to challenge for a starting role at some point, but the team figures to ease him back into action right away.

Carradine (ankle) is expected to be activated from injured reserve ahead of Sunday's game against the Seahawks, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
Carradine has been practicing for two weeks now and appears to be recovering well from the high-ankle sprain that has sidelined him for the last seven contests. Assuming Carradine endures no setbacks during the week, he'll likely be activated and could immediately challenge for a starting role Sunday. At the very least, Carradine should be firmly in the mix of a defensive-end rotation that already includes Solomon Thomas (knee), Leger Douzable, Ronald Blair, Elvis Dumervil, Cassius Marsh and Aaron Lynch.

While not great news, the 49ers have to be exhaling some sighs of relief Saturday. There were rumblings of a possible season-ending injury prior to the MRI results, so 4-6 weeks seems like a much better outlook when putting things into perspective. In the meantime, rookie Solomon Thomas should be the primary beneficiary.

The 2013 second-round pick looked like a bust in his first two seasons with the 49ers as a defensive lineman. Carradine has been working as an outside linebacker this offseason, CSN Bay Area reports.
Carradine reportedly dropped some weight and has been lining up as an edge rusher at the outside linebacker position. He was even listed as a linebacker on the 49ers' unofficial depth chart that was released Tuesday. Carradine has adapted well to the new role, showing explosiveness off the edge during training camp. There's an opening on the right side of the defense for the first four weeks of the season with Aaron Lynch suspended, so Carradine could carve out a significant role if he shows an ability to execute during preseason action.
