It's unclear how long the knee injury will keep him on the shelf this offseason. Geathers was sidelined in Weeks 16 and 17 with a knee issue, but returned to action for the postseason. When available last season, Geathers was a productive anchor for the Indianapolis secondary, racking up 89 tackles (61 solo) and one fumble recovery in 12 contests. Assuming the 26-year-old has made a full recovery from the knee procedure before the 2019 season kicks off, he should open the campaign as a starting safety.

Colts' Clayton Geathers: Sticking in Indy
Geathers and the Colts reached agreement Wednesday on a one-year contract, Mike Chappell of Fox 59 News Indianapolis reports.
Geathers averaged 7.4 tackles per appearance in 2018, but a four-week absence due to neck and head injuries brought his three-year total to 22 missed games. His medical history largely explains the failure to land a multi-year deal in free agency, as the 2015 fourth-round pick has been a solid starter when healthy. With fellow safety Malik Hooker often handling deep coverage responsibilities, Geathers should have plenty of tackle opportunities in 2019, assuming he retains the starting job at strong safety, an IDP-friendly gig.

Colts' Clayton Geathers: Wanted back in Indy
General manager Chris Ballard said he will meet with Geathers' agents this week to discuss his contract status, Andrew Walker of the Colts' official site reports. "Do we want Clayton back? Yes, we want Clayton back," Ballard said Wednesday.
The 26-year-old is set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason. When healthy, Geathers has been an effective player when operating near the line of scrimmage and could certainly be of service to the up-and-coming Colts defense in 2019, though his going rate on the open market may be too rich for Indianapolis.

Geathers logged 11 tackles (nine solo) in Saturday's 31-13 divisional-round loss to the Chiefs. He finishes the regular season with 89 tackles, three passes defended and one forced fumble.
Geathers racked up a career high in tackles in 2018, and started all 12 of the games he played. Despite being hampered by lingering knee and neck injuries for much of the year, the-26-year-old managed to consistently maintain a heavy workload -- eclipsing 70 defensive snaps during both of the Colts' playoff games. Set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason, it remains to be seen whether Geathers will return to Indianapolis in 2019.
