Jose Calderon: Calls end to career
Calderon said Monday that he accepted a position with the National Basketball Players Association, effectively ending his playing career, Ben Golliver of The Washington Post reports.
The 38-year-old point guard will step away from a 20-year professional career that included 14 seasons in the NBA. Calderon averaged 8.9 points, 5.8 assists and 2.4 rebounds in 26.4 minutes per game across 895 regular-season appearances with the Raptors, Pistons, Mavericks, Knicks, Hawks, Lakers and Cavaliers. The Spaniard was perhaps best known for his smooth stroke at the charity stripe, as he owns the second-longest streak in NBA history for consecutive free throws made (87), which he established in 2008-09. Calderon converted at a NBA-record 98.1 percent clip from the line that same season and owns a 87.3 percent mark for his career.

Jose Calderon: Considering retirement
Calderon is considering retiring from the NBA, El Periodico Extremadura reports.
Calderon spent last season in Detroit but toiled in a diminished role, averaging a career-low 12.9 minutes in 49 appearances off the bench. With NBA interest dwindling, Calderon apparently isn't prepared to play overseas, so if he goes unsigned, the soon-to-be-38-year-old would likely call it a career. The Spanish point guard has spent time with Toronto, Detroit, Dallas, New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Cleveland throughout his 14-year NBA career.

Pistons' Jose Calderon: Bows out of rotation
Calderon (coach's decision) didn't see the floor Monday in the Pistons' 100-94 loss to the Jazz.
Coach Dwane Casey deployed a six-man bench in the narrow loss, but Calderon failed to see any action for the first time since Nov. 30 with Ish Smith (groin) returning to the second unit following a five-week absence. With Smith now locked in as the clear backup to starting point guard Reggie Jackson, Calderon is unlikely to earn any playing time outside of blowouts. While Smith was sidelined for 19 straight games, Calderon hadn't offered much fantasy intrigue with averages of 3.6 points, 3.8 assists and 2.1 rebounds in 19.2 minutes per contest during that stretch.

Pistons' Jose Calderon: Eight assists in Saturday's win
Calderon collected five points (2-3 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 1-2 FT), eight assists, three steals, and two rebounds in 24 minutes during Saturday's 113-104 win over the Celtics.
Calderon has accumulated 26 assists over the last four games, plus he managed a season high steal total in this one. Despite fouling out, the 37-year-old veteran ended up earning as many minutes as starting point guard Reggie Jackson, and Calderon continues to step up in the absence of Ish Smith (groin).

Pistons' Jose Calderon: Scoreless in 13 minutes
Calderon had zero points (0-4 FG, 0-1 3Pt), two assists, and one rebound in 13 minutes during Wednesday's 115-92 loss to the Bucks.
Calderon has seen double-digit minutes in nine of his 14 appearances this season. Given that Ish Smith strained his groin and is scheduled to undergo and MRI on Thursday, Calderon has a decent chance to earn another helping of double-digit minutes in Friday's matchup with the 76ers. With that being said, it's also possible that coach Dwane Casey will instead turn to rookie Bruce Brown, whom Casey has praised for his point guard skills and played 26 minutes in this one.

Pistons' Jose Calderon: Apparently starts Wednesday
Calderon scrapped his way to one point and one assist in 18 minutes during Wednesday's 97-91 preseason victory over the Thunder.
Calderon started for the resting Reggie Jackson but was barely visible in 18 minutes of playing time. The move was likely a matter of keeping Ish Smith running with the second unit and is no indication that Calderon will play any major minutes for the Pistons. He is not a fantasy option anywhere at this stage.

Calderon will start at point guard for Wednesday's preseason tilt with the Thunder, Keith Langlois of Pistons.com reports.
Reggie Jackson is getting the night off for rest purposes and coach Dwane Casey wants to keep Ish Smith in the same role he's expected to serve once the regular season arrives. As a result, Calderon gets the call with the top unit and should see a solid workload Wednesday. Still, Calderon is a veteran, so his placement in the starting five doesn't guarantee he'll see significant minutes against the Thunder.

Pistons' Jose Calderon: Agrees to join Detroit
Calderon and the Pistons agreed to terms Monday on a one-year, $2.4 million contract, Michael Scotto of The Athletic reports.
The soon-to-be-37-year-old's best days are behind him, but he proved to be as serviceable option for the Cavs last season, averaging 4.5 points and 2.1 assists in 16.0 minutes per game across 57 appearances (32 starts). Detroit likely won't rely on Calderon as anything more than a third point guard, though the veteran should be a capable option to run the offense if Reggie Jackson or Ish Smith goes down with an injury. Calderon is a career 41.1 percent shooter from three-point range, and he hit better than 46 percent of his attempts in 2017-18.

Cavaliers' Jose Calderon: Coming off bench for Game 7
Calderon will come off the bench for Sunday's Game 7 against the Pacers, Marla Ridenour of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
Coach Tyronn Lue is opting to start LeBron James at point guard, so both Calderon and George Hill will come off the bench. Calderon has made little impact in the series, however, and it's possible he doesn't see the floor.

Cavaliers' Jose Calderon: Will remain in starting lineup
Calderon will remain in the starting lineup for Wednesday's Game 5 against the Pacers, Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com reports.
Calderon also started Game 4, but the news here is that the Cavs will again be without George Hill, who will miss a second straight contest as he continues to nurse a sore back. Coach Ty Lue indicated that Hill would have started had he been cleared to play, but the Cavs will turn back to Calderon, who played a series-high 19 minutes in Sunday's narrow Game 4 victory. The 36-year-old was a DNP-CD in Game 3 after playing a combined 22 minutes in the first two games of the series.

Cavaliers' Jose Calderon: Modest production in Game 4 start
Calderon contributed five points (2-4 FG, 1-2 3Pt), two rebounds and two assists across 19 minutes during Cleveland's 104-100 win over the Pacers in Game 4 of their Eastern Conference first-round playoff series.
Calderon drew the start for George Hill (back), but he unsurprisingly played a modest amount of minutes. The veteran point guard has now seen action in three of the first four games of the series, generating a pair of five-point tallies and one scoreless effort. If Hill is unable to suit up for Wednesday's Game 5, Calderon could certainly be in for another run with the first unit.

Cavaliers' Jose Calderon: Starting at point guard Sunday
Calderon will start at point guard in Sunday's Game 4 against the Pacers, Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com reports.
With George Hill (back) officially being ruled out, Calderon will be thrust back into the starting lineup after he didn't even see the floor in Game 3. Calderon will still likely play a fairly limited role for the Cavaliers on Sunday, while both Rodney Hood and Jordan Clarkson are in line to see more minutes off the bench in Hill's absence.
