Chris Smith: Expected to be released
Smith (knee) will be released by the Pistons on Sunday, James L. Edwards III of The Athletic reports. Smith made 18 appearances (nine starts) with the G League's Motor City Cruise, but he failed to make his NBA debut during his rookie campaign before sustaining a second ACL injury over the past three years. Pistons' Chris Smith: Undergoes surgery, out indefinitely
Smith underwent an ACL reconstruction on his left knee Tuesday and will remain out indefinitely, Omari Sankofa II of the Detroit Free Press reports. Smith didn't make make his NBA debut during his rookie season, but he did make 18 appearances (nine) with the G League's Motor City Cruise, averaging 8.7 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 22.5 minutes per game. He's been sidelined since March 8 and can safely be ruled out for the rest of the season, but it remains unclear how the surgery will impact his availability for the 2022-23 campaign.
