  • Celtics' Jonathan Gibson: Inks deal with Celtics

Gibson signed a contract with the Celtics on Tuesday.

Gibson will take over the final open spot on the Celtics' roster as the regular season draws to a close. Gibson last appeared in the NBA at the end of last season, when he, much like this year, signed with Boston for the last few games of the regular season. With the Celtics already having locked up the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference, Gibson may get some minutes Tuesday night in Washington should the team rest some of their players.

  • Jonathan Gibson: Signs with Chinese club

Gibson will sign with the Qingdao Eagles of the Chinese Basketball Association, Sportando reports.

Gibson spent the 2017-18 campaign with Qingdao as well, so he's plenty familiar with the organization. In 38 games, Gibson averaged a ridiculous 33.7 points, 6.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.5 steals across 38.6 minutes. Following the completion of the CBA schedule, the point guard did join the Celtics for the back end of last season and saw action in four games. However, he didn't do enough to earn additional looks from Boston, or any other NBA teams, to make a roster ahead of the 2018-19 season, so he's set to head back overseas for another run at a scoring title in China.

  • Celtics' Jonathan Gibson: Scores 18 points versus Nets

Gibson scored 18 points (8-13 FG, 2-5 3Pt) to go along with two rebounds and two assists across 25 minutes during Wednesday's 110-97 win over the Nets.

Gibson saw additional run with Terry Rozier out resting, finishing second on the team in scoring thanks to an efficient night at the offensive end. Rozier is expected to shoulder a large burden during the playoffs, restoring Shane Larkin to the backup spot and relegating Gibson to mere scrap minutes here and there.

  • Jonathan Gibson: Signs with Boston for remainder of season

Gibson has signed a contract with the Celtics for the remainder of the season, Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports reports.

This news comes in the wake of Kyrie Irving (knee) undergoing surgery and being sidelined for the remainder of the regular and postseason. Gibson most recently played in China, posting 33.7 points, 6.8 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.5 steals in 38.6 minutes per game. He also made 3.9 threes per game at a 37.4 percent mark. When both Terry Rozier and Shane Larkin (illness) are healthy, it seems doubtful Gibson will see significant run, however.

  • Jonathan Gibson: Will be waived by Dallas

Gibson will be waived by the Mavericks on Tuesday, Brad Townsend of The Dallas Morning News reports.

The Mavericks have yet to officially announce the roster move, but the team reportedly plans to sign D-League standout Pierre Jackson and bid adieu to Gibson, who has fallen out of coach Rick Carlisle's rotation the last couple weeks with Deron Williams and Seth Curry back to full health. Gibson was averaging a respectable 6.2 points in just 13.6 minutes per game over his 17 appearances, but was incredibly inefficient, shooting just 36.8 percent from the floor. Dallas will give Jackson a look to see if he can provide a better spark off the bench as the team's third or fourth point guard, but don't expect him to pick up major minutes.

  • Mavericks' Jonathan Gibson: Sees extra work with Seth Curry (Knee) out

Gibson scored 11 points (5-15 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 0-2 FT) and added five assists, two rebounds, and two steals in 27 minutes during Thursday's 97-87 loss to the Hornets.

After a hot breakout in his first few games, Gibson had faded almost completely out of the rotation. In the two games before Thursday, he totaled only seven minutes. With Seth Curry (knee) out Thursday, Gibson once again saw big minutes, with modest results. In every game where Gibson plays double-digit minutes, he has made it to the free throw line at least twice - though he missed both attempts Thursday, he entered the game averaging 79.2 percent on the season. In each of those games, he has also added at least seven points, and at least two assists.

  • Mavericks' Jonathan Gibson: Scores team-high 26 off bench Saturday

Gibson scored 26 points (8-16 FG, 5-9 3Pt, 5-6 FT) while adding six rebounds, three assists and two steals in 32 minutes off the bench during Saturday's 95-87 loss to the Magic.

In just his second career NBA game, Gibson led the Mavs in scoring, but his defensive lapses also resulted in D.J. Augustin scoring 10 points in the fourth quarter to lead Orlando to a come-from-behind win. Once Deron Williams (calf) returns to action, Gibson's minutes will decrease, but his performance Saturday might have been enough to carve out a regular spot in Dallas' backcourt rotation even after the roster gets healthier.

  • Mavericks' Jonathan Gibson: Will play Friday against Grizzlies

Gibson, who the Mavericks just signed on Thursday, will play in the team's game against the Grizzlies on Friday, Dwain Price of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Gibson hasn't had much time to work with the team since being signed, but seeing as though the Mavericks only have one active point guard outside of Gibson in Seth Curry, he is needed right away for depth purposes. Expect him to back up Curry on Friday in a limited fashion.

  • Jonathan Gibson: Signed by Mavericks

Gibson has been signed by Dallas, Shams Charania of The Vertical reports.

Gibson was waived by the Mavericks in late October, coming as somewhat of a surprise considering he signed a three-year contract with Dallas, which fully guaranteed his first year. Gibson displayed his offensive ability while playing in the Chinese Basketball Association last season, and he impressed at Las Vegas Summer League in July, but Dallas ultimately couldn't find a spot for him behind Deron Williams, J.J. Barea and Devin Harris until a rash of recent injuries to the backcourt. In order to accommodate Gibson on the roster, Dallas waived forward Quincy Acy, who had signed as a free agent in July.

  • Jonathan Gibson: Waived by Mavericks

Gibson has been waived by the Mavericks, Earl Sneed of the Mavericks' official site reports.

Gibson had a nice preseason, playing in seven games and averaging 7.1 points, 3.0 assists and 1.6 rebounds in 14.8 minutes of action per game, and looked like a prime candidate to win a roster spot. However, the Mavericks chose to go a different direction, keeping two undrafted free agent rookies in Dorian Finney-Smith and Nicolas Brussino. Gibson was one of the Chinese Basketball Association's top scorers in 2015-16, so it will be interesting to see whether he decides to return to China for the coming season.

  • Mavericks' Jonathan Gibson: Efficient performance off bench Friday

Gibson tallied 13 points (4-8 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 4-6 FT), two rebounds, an assist and a steal across just 12 minutes in Friday's 112-107 preseason loss to the Suns.

Gibson put forth a highly efficient performance over his modest amount of time on the court, posting his first double-digit scoring effort since the exhibition opener in the process. The 28-year-old displayed some serious offensive chops last season in the Chinese Basketball Association and during the Las Vegas Summer League, but faces a steep climb to appreciable playing time at point guard, where he slots behind incumbents Deron Williams, J.J. Barea and Devin Harris.
