Banks struck out the only batter he faced to record the final out of Saturday's 6-5 extra-inning win over the Cardinals and collect his first save of the season. The 32-year-old southpaw faced Ivan Herrera with the bases loaded and two outs after a rain delay that lasted over three hours interrupted the 10th inning, and Banks got the job done on four pitches. John Brebbia had originally gotten the call in the save situation before the delay, while Michael Kopech pitched the ninth, so Banks' usage was more due to the unusual circumstances than his prominence in the White Sox bullpen. On the season, Banks has a 5.65 ERA and 1.88 WHIP through 14.1 innings, but his 18:4 K:BB suggests he's been unlucky so far.... See More ... See Less

White Sox's Tanner Banks: Impresses as opener
Banks (0-1) was saddled with his first loss, allowing one run on two hits over 2.1 innings during Monday's 4-0 defeat to the Guardians. He struck out five. Banks served as the opener and showed very well as he threw 43 pitches and worked into the third inning while recording all five outs by way of the strikeout. Banks' previous two outings only lasted one inning each and totaled 40 pitches, but the White Sox allowed him to top that combined total during Monday's loss. The pitch count was not entirely unfamiliar territory for Banks, who worked as many as four innings last season, topping 50 pitches in seven outings.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Tanner Banks: Set for opener duties
Banks will serve as an opener in Monday's game in Cleveland, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. The White Sox have utilized just four traditional starters thus far and that will continue Monday with Banks receiving an opener assignment. Banks is unscored upon in two appearances this season.... White Sox's Tanner Banks: Secures roster spot
Banks will be a member of the White Sox's bullpen to begin the regular season, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Banks has been a key contributor out of the team's bullpen for the last two seasons, throwing a combined 124 innings. He hasn't been used in high-leverage roles, however, as he has just one career save and two career holds. Even so, manager Pedro Grifol has stated that the White Sox will not enter the season with a defined closer, so Banks could enter the picture if he starts the season well.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Tanner Banks: Returns to bullpen
Banks worked in relief in Saturday's 3-0 loss to the Cardinals, covering two innings and striking out four while allowing one earned run on one hit and one walk. Banks was making his first appearance since June 30, when he started in Oakland in what ended up being a tandem arrangement with Jesse Scholtens. The White Sox elected to hand Scholtens a start this past week against Toronto, so he looks as though he'll retain a back-end rotation spot over Banks for the time being.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Tanner Banks: Takes loss against Athletics
Banks (0-3) allowed four earned runs on five hits and a walk while striking out three over four innings to take the loss Friday against the Athletics. Banks started his third consecutive game, with Friday's outing marking his longest appearance of the season. He's had poor results in the new role, allowing eight earned runs across 10.1 innings to go along with a more impressive 10:3 K:BB. It's unlikely that Banks will be stretched out as a traditional starter, though he may continue in the hybrid role so long as Mike Clevinger (biceps) is out.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Tanner Banks: Opening Sunday
Banks will start Sunday's game against the Red Sox, Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.com reports. The left-hander allowed three runs across 3.2 frames as an opener last week and will make another start versus Boston. Banks threw a season-high 63 pitches in that outing and isn't likely to work much deeper Sunday before giving way to the bullpen.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Tanner Banks: Summoned from Triple-A
Chicago recalled Banks from Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Banks was recalled after the White Sox placed Liam Hendriks on the 15-day injured list with elbow inflammation. Banks has been effective at the major-league level with a career 3.10 ERA in 61 innings over 39 appearances, and he'll likely be a multi-inning middle relief option for the White Sox while he's with the club.... White Sox's Tanner Banks: Returned to Triple-A
Banks was returned to Triple-A Charlotte after the second game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Yankees. Banks was added as the 27th man for the second game of the twin bill. He did not appear in the contest but is likely to serve as bullpen depth at some point during the remainder of the 2023 campaign.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Tanner Banks: Optioned to Triple-A
Banks was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte by the White Sox on Thursday. Banks has yielded three runs over eight relief innings during his time in the majors this season. The 31-year-old is clearing out to make room for Lucas Giolito's return from the bereavement list.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Tanner Banks: Sent down by White Sox
Banks was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte on Saturday. Banks spent just under a week in the major-league bullpen, and he allowed a run on two hits and a walk while striking out nine in six innings over three appearances. However, he'll head back to the minors after Joe Kelly was reinstated from the family medical leave list Saturday.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Tanner Banks: Headed to Triple-A
The White Sox optioned Banks to Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday. He'll cede his spot on the active roster to right-hander Lance Lynn (personal), who was reinstated from the bereavement list ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday against the Royals. During his week-long stay with the White Sox, Banks appeared in three games out of the bullpen and allowed two earned runs while striking out four over 4.1 innings.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Tanner Banks: Returns to big leagues
The White Sox recalled Banks from Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday, LaMond Pope of the Chicago Tribune reports. Banks joins the big-league roster to replace Michael Kopech (knee). After posting a 3.16 ERA in 42.2 innings across his multiple stints with the White Sox this season, Banks should get some opportunities out of the bullpen going forward.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Tanner Banks: Retreats to minors
The White Sox optioned Banks to Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday. Banks' demotion comes after he was lit up for four runs (two earned) on three walks and one hit over two innings out of the bullpen in Saturday's 8-0 loss to the Rangers. Since Banks wasn't going to be available to pitch in Sunday's series finale, the White Sox opted to move him off the 26-man active roster in favor of infielder Lenyn Sosa, who was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move.... White Sox's Tanner Banks: Nabs roster spot
Banks has earned a spot on the White Sox's Opening Day roster, James Fegan of The Athletic reports. Banks was initially reassigned to minor-league camp last week, but Chicago instead decided to include him on the roster to begin the season. The 30-year-old has reportedly upped his fastball velocity by nearly four miles-per-hour and is now primed to make his major-league debut.... See More ... See Less
