  • Nationals' Dylan Crews: Back in lineup

Crews (hamstring) is starting at center field and batting third for Double-A Harrisburg on Saturday.

Crews appears to have progressed through the hamstring issue that has kept him out of action since April 17. The 22-year-old outfielder has gone 10-for-41 with seven runs, two stolen bases, two home runs and 11 RBI over 10 games this season in Double-A.

  • Nationals' Dylan Crews: Out with hamstring

Crews has been out of the Double-A Harrisburg lineup since April 17 due to a hamstring issue and remains out of the lineup Thursday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

It was previously known that Crews was out of the lineup due to a minor injury, but the nature of the injury wasn't clear. The team is being extra cautious with him, but he did run yesterday and appeared to have no issues. The top prospect is slashing .244/.326/.415 with two home runs and two steals across 10 games this season.

  • Nationals' Dylan Crews: Dealing with minor issue

Crews has dealt with a minor injury that has kept him out of the Double-A Harrisburg lineup since April 17, and he was held out of Tuesday's game as a precaution due to rainy weather, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Crews is presumably dealing with some sort of lower-body injury if the rainy weather played a role in him not playing Tuesday. The 22-year-old outfielder is slashing .244/.326/.415 with two home runs and two steals in 10 games this season.

  • Nationals' Dylan Crews: Heating up at Double-A

Crews went 3-for-5 with a grand slam, a second run scored and a stolen base for Double-A Harrisburg on Sunday.

Crews' eighth-inning blast left the yard so quickly, it initially looked like a double when it hit above the fence in left field and bounced back onto the grass. The second overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft is beginning to find a groove at Double-A, going 8-for-20 (.400) over the last five games with a double, two homers, eight RBI and a 1:3 BB:K. James Wood is scorching hot at Triple-A right now, and if he forces his way onto the big-league roster, Crews could get an early promotion of his own to take Wood's place on the Rochester roster.

  • Nationals' Dylan Crews: Big night for Harrisburg

Crews went 4-for-5 with a home run and four RBI in an 8-7 extra-inning win for Double-A Harrisburg on Tuesday.

The second overall pick in the 2023 First-Year Player Draft ripped a three-run home run off Braxton Ashcraft in the third inning before adding an RBI single in the fourth. The long ball was the first of the year for Crews, and his first at Double-A after he struggled in 20 games at the level to close out last season. He's batting .278 (5-for-18) through four games for Harrisburg with a 1:7 BB:K, and a quick climb up the ladder to Triple-A remains a distinct possibility if he gets hot at the plate. A big-league debut late in the 2024 campaign is still plausible for Crews, but the Nationals will likely try to preserve his rookie eligibility for 2025.

  • Nationals' Dylan Crews: Will begin season at Double-A

Crews will open the season with Double-A Harrisburg, Bobby Blanco of MASN Sports reports.

The 2023 first-round pick was informed of the assignment ahead of Tuesday's showcase game pitting the Nationals' regulars against the organization's top prospects. Crews finished last season with Harrisburg but slashed only .194/.306/.264 through 20 games, so a return engagement makes sense. The 22-year-old also struggled a bit this spring, batting .156 (5-for-32) with a 4:12 BB:K, but three of his hits, including a homer he hit off Jesus Luzardo, went for extra bases. If Crews catches fire at Double-A, a promotion to Triple-A could follow in short order, and a big-league debut later in the 2024 season isn't out of the question.

  • Nationals' Dylan Crews: Smacks first spring homer

Crews went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run, a double and a second run scored in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Marlins.

Both extra-base hits came off Jesus Luzardo, including a fourth-inning blast to center field for Crews' first homer in a Nationals' uniform. James Wood has been the prospect star of camp so far for Washington, but Crews hasn't been too shabby either, going 4-for-14 with two doubles, two stolen bases and a 2:3 BB:K along with Wednesday's homer. After being the second overall pick in the 2023 Draft, the 22-year-old Crews could be poised to make his big-league debut over the summer if he gets off to a hot start in the high minors.

  • Nationals' Dylan Crews: Invited to Nats' spring training

The Nationals announced Tuesday that Crews received an invitation to major-league spring training.

He'll join fellow prospects James Wood and Brady House, among others, in Nats camp. The No. 2 overall pick in the 2023 First-Year Player Draft, Crews slashed .292/.377/.467 with five home runs over three levels in his first 35 pro games last season. He did struggle in his 20 contests at Double-A Harrisburg (.595 OPS), but Crews should nonetheless reach the majors in short order, perhaps as soon as the 2024 season.

  • Nationals' Dylan Crews: Struggling since return to lineup

Crews (head) is hitting .158/.179/.237 in nine games for Double-A Harrisburg since making his return to the lineup Aug. 31.

Crews was removed from an Aug. 29 game against Binghamton after being hit in the back of the helmet by a pitch, but after receiving the following day off, the No. 2 overall pick in June's draft received the green light to rejoin the Harrisburg lineup. Though he's ostensibly healthy again, the 21-year-old has yet to get going at the plate; in addition to batting .158 since his return to the lineup, Crews has failed to draw a walk and has struck out at 30.8 percent clip.

  • Nationals' Dylan Crews: Exits Double-A game after HBP

Nationals president of baseball operations Mike Rizzo said Wednesday in an interview with Grant Paulsen of 106.7 The Fan Washington that Crews was removed from his game Tuesday with Double-A Harrisburg as a precaution after being hit in the back of the helmet by a pitch.

A misplaced breaking ball struck Crews, forcing him from the game. The No. 2 overall pick in the 2023 First-Year Player Draft seems to have avoided a concussion, though he will continue to be monitored. Crews has a .970 OPS with five home runs in 22 games over three levels since entering the professional ranks.
