Zuniga (pectoral) began a rehab assignment Monday with the Angels' rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate, recording two outs while striking out one and allowing one hit. Though he didn't issue any walks, Zuniga was a bit wild in his first rehab outing, as he hit a batter and threw a wild pitch. Given that he's been on the shelf since April 8 with a right pectoral strain, Zuniga will likely require a handful of appearances at multiple minor-league affiliates before he returns from the 15-day injured list.... Angels' Guillermo Zuniga: Grabs first career save
Zuniga picked up the save Wednesday against the Marlins, recording a strikeout over three perfect innings. After struggling in his last appearance, allowing three runs in one inning versus the Orioles, Zuniga turned in an impressive bounce-back performance in Miami, throwing three perfect innings to close out a 10-2 victory and earn the first save of his MLB career. Zuniga's made just five appearances in the big leagues over the past two seasons with Anaheim and St. Louis -- he struggled to a 7.63 ERA across 30.2 innings in Triple-A last year. The 25-year-old right-hander will likely remain a low-leverage option for the Angels going forward.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Guillermo Zuniga: Headed to Anaheim
The Angels acquired Zuniga from the Cardinals on Wednesday in exchange for cash consideration. Zuniga allowed one run over two innings during his brief time with St. Louis in 2023 and held a 7.63 ERA and 37:20 K:BB over 30.2 frames at Triple-A Memphis. The 25-year-old has a big arm but also major control problems. Zuniga will compete for a spot in the Angels' bullpen.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Guillermo Zuniga: Kicked off 40-man
The Cardinals designated Zuniga (forearm) for assignment Saturday. The signing of Keynan Middleton became official Saturday, and Zuniga was the roster casualty. Zuniga spent most of his time in Triple-A last season, logging a 7.63 ERA and 1.72 WHIP across 30.2 innings, and he ended the season on the injured list due to a right forearm strain.... See More ... Cardinals' Guillermo Zuniga: Moved to 60-day IL
The Cardinals transferred Zuniga (forearm) to the 60-day injured list Saturday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. A right forearm strain forced Zuniga onto the IL on Sunday, so his move to the 60-day IL will officially put an end to his season. The 24-year-old righty gave up one run in two innings with the Cardinals, and he logged a 7.63 ERA and 1.72 WHIP through 30.2 frames in Triple-A this season. Mike Siani was claimed off waivers from Cincinnati to fill Zuniga's 40-man roster spot.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Guillermo Zuniga: Placed on 15-day IL
St. Louis placed Zuniga on the 15-day injured list Sunday with a right forearm strain. Zuniga has made only two appearances this season at the major-league level and could struggle to make it back before the end of the 2023 campaign. James Naile has been called up from Triple-A in a corresponding move to provide aid to the St. Louis bullpen.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Guillermo Zuniga: Returns to action at Triple-A
Zuniga (undisclosed) was reinstated from Triple-A Memphis' 7-day injured list Monday and gave up three earned runs on three hits and one walk while recording one out in his return to action Wednesday. Zuniga had been sidelined for around six weeks with the injury before getting the green light to rejoin the Memphis bullpen this season. Though he was roughed up in his 31-pitch appearance Wednesday, Zuniga retains a spot on the Cardinals' 40-man roster and remains one of the organization's better relief prospects.... See More ... Jeff Fletcher@JeffFletcherOCR14H agoThe Angels victories this season have mostly been when they've scored a ton of runs and had a 4+ run lead. They haven't won as many close ones like this. They're 4-7 in one-run games. It's 2-1 Angels after 7. Are they going to win?
