Orioles' Danny Coulombe: Notches first save
Coulombe worked a scoreless ninth inning Monday to record his first save of the season in a 2-0 win over the Yankees.
With Craig Kimbrel (back) sidelined, Yennier Cano remained in his high-leverage role and retired Aaron Judge as the final out of the seventh inning before taking care of Anthony Rizzo, Giancarlo Stanton and Austin Wells in the eighth. After Cano gave up a single to begin the ninth, however, Coulombe was brought in to handle the bottom of New York's order and needed only 12 pitches (nine strikes) to get the job done. Kimbrel may not be unavailable for long, but if he does wind up on the injured list, Coulombe could factor more heavily into the endgame mix for manager Brandon Hyde than expected. The southpaw has pitched well to begin the season, posting a 3.18 ERA, 0.62 WHIP and 14:2 K:BB through 11.1 innings.

Orioles' Danny Coulombe: Avoids arbitration
Coulombe signed a one-year contract with the Orioles on Monday that includes a club option for 2025.
The deal buys out the left-hander's final year of arbitration eligibility, and potentially, his first year of free agency. Coulombe was excellent for Baltimore in 2023, collecting a 2.81 ERA and 58:12 K:BB over 51.1 innings. He'll be a key setup man in the bullpen again in 2024.

Coulombe (5-3) allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits and struck out two over one inning, taking the loss Sunday versus the Red Sox.
Two of Coulombe's three losses this season occurred over his last five appearances. He's allowed five runs (four earned) across his last 4.2 innings. Despite the late skid, he has a 2.81 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 58:12 K:BB with two saves and 21 holds through 51.1 innings this season. Orioles' Danny Coulombe: Gets walked off Wednesday
Coulombe (5-2) allowed a run on two hits over one-third of an inning, taking the loss Wednesday versus the Astros.
Coulombe entered this series with a 12-inning scoreless streak, but the Astros have tagged him for two runs across one inning in two appearances. He allowed a double to Yainer Diaz and a walk-off single to Mauricio Dubon in Wednesday's contest. Coulombe has arguably been the Orioles' most consistent lefty reliever this year with a 2.64 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 53:11 K:BB through 48.2 innings, and he's added two saves and 20 holds over 57 appearances. While he's struggled in the series, he should still be able to hold down a setup role the rest of the way.

Orioles' Danny Coulombe: Grabs another win
Coulombe (5-1) struck out one over 1.1 perfect innings to earn the win Sunday over the Diamondbacks.
Jack Flaherty started to fade in the fifth inning, but Coulombe was able to step in and steady things for the Orioles. They rallied ahead in the sixth, allowing Coulombe to pick up his second win in as many outings. The southpaw has an 8.1-inning scoreless streak going, during which he's posted an 11:2 K:BB with a save and four holds. He's at a 2.51 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 52:10 K:BB over 43 innings this season, though his usage Sunday suggests he's not strictly confined to late-inning work.

Orioles' Danny Coulombe: Earns win Tuesday
Coulombe (4-1) pitched 1.2 perfect innings to earn the win Tuesday over the White Sox.
Dean Kremer left runners on base in the seventh inning, but Coulombe was able to pitch out of trouble just before the Orioles rallied ahead. Coulombe's scoreless streak is up to seven innings over eight appearances, and he has a 10:2 K:BB in that span. For the season, he's at a 2.59 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 51:10 K:BB with two saves and 20 holds over 41.2 innings. With Felix Bautista (elbow) sidelined, Coulombe and Yennier Cano figure to handle most of the high-leverage assignments.

Orioles' Danny Coulombe: Earns one-out save
Coulombe struck out the only batter he faced to pick up the save in Friday's 5-4 win over Colorado.
Orioles' closer Felix Bautista was called upon to close the ninth, but with two outs and the count at 2-2 against pinch-hitter Michael Toglia, Bautista was forced from the game with right-arm discomfort. Coulombe replaced Bautista and the lefty needed just one pitch to complete the strikeout against the switch-hitter and finish out the game. If Bautista ends up missing an extended period, Yennier Cano appears to be first in line to pick up save opportunities, though Coulombe could be used if the matchup is right. He holds a 2.75 ERA with 19 holds, two saves and 49 strikeouts over 39.1 innings.

Coulombe (biceps) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday and struck out two batters over a scoreless inning.

Coulombe (3-1) allowed one hit and struck out three without walking a batter over 2.1 scoreless innings to earn the win Wednesday over the Dodgers.
Coulombe was fresh, having not pitched since Sunday, and he was able to get seven outs on 25 pitches after a short start from Dean Kremer. This was Coulombe's longest appearance of the season and just the fourth time in 40 outings he's exceeded one inning. The southpaw has a 2.70 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 41:7 K:BB while adding a save, 14 holds and two blown saves over 33.1 innings this season. He'll likely continue to be a versatile part of the Orioles' bullpen, with the ability to take on high-leverage assignments as necessary.

Orioles' Danny Coulombe: Earns first save
Coulombe picked up the save in Sunday's 5-4 victory over the Marlins. He allowed a run on two hits over two-thirds of an inning.
Colombe came on in relief of Eduard Bazardo in the ninth, allowing one inherited runner to score before allowing an RBI double to Dane Myers, cutting Baltimore's lead to 5-4 with two outs. However, Colombe coaxed a lineout from Luis Arraez to strand the tying run on second and pick up the first save of his MLB career. The 33-year-old lefty has been solid for the Orioles this season, pitching to a 2.90 ERA with a 1.10 WHIP over 31 innings. However, he's unlikely to see much more ninth-inning work with Felix Bautista firmly locked in as the closer.

Orioles' Danny Coulombe: Back from illness
Coulombe (illness) returned to action Wednesday and has since made three appearances out of the Baltimore bullpen, allowing two earned runs on three hits and a walk while striking out one over two innings.
Coulombe went over a week without an appearance -- in part due to reportedly feeling under the weather. The 33-year-old avoided a trip to the injured list and should resume filling a middle-innings role out of the Baltimore bullpen.

Orioles' Danny Coulombe: Tending to illness
Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said prior to Sunday's 11-3 win over the Royals that Coulombe has been dealing with an unspecified illness, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.
Hyde noted that Coulombe was feeling under the weather Saturday, and though the left-hander was in uniform for Sunday's series finale, the Orioles ultimately stayed away from him. Regardless, Coulombe's ailment doesn't sound especially serious, so a trip to the injured list wouldn't seem likely at this juncture.
