Branden Kline: Ends playing days
Kline announced Wednesday via his personal Instagram account that he has retired from professional baseball.
A second-round pick of the Orioles in 2012, Kline had a slow climb through the Baltimore system due to a series of arm injuries, but he finally reached the big leagues in 2019. He ended up making 37 appearances for Baltimore across the past two seasons, posting a 5.48 ERA in 46 innings. After being outrighted off the 40-man roster in October, Kline likely would have had to settle for a minor-league deal this winter if he wanted to keep his career going, but the 29-year-old apparently determined he was better off stepping away from the game.

Branden Kline: Refuses outright assignment
Kline refused his outright assignment to Triple-A Norfolk on Friday and was released by the Orioles, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports.
The 29-year-old elected free agency rather than heading back to Triple-A. Kline appeared in three games this season and gave up one run with seven strikeouts and three walks over five innings. He had a 5.93 ERA and 1.54 WHIP in a larger sample size (41 innings) during 2019.

Orioles' Branden Kline: Outrighted to Triple-A
Kline was outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
Kline was shuffled between the major-league roster and the alternate training site in 2020, and he'll be cast off the 40-man roster heading into the offseason. The right-hander made three relief appearances during the abbreviated 2020 season, recording a 1.80 ERA and seven strikeouts over five innings.
