Socrates Brito: Staying with Korean team
Brito has re-signed with the Kia Tigers of the Korea Baseball Organization, Dan Kurtz of MyKBO.net reports.
Brito will receive $800,000 guaranteed, with an additional $400,000 available in incentives. The 31-year-old has hit .298/.349/.478 with 37 homers over his two seasons with Kia, so it's not a surprise the club was anxious to bring him back. Brito last appeared in the majors in 2019.

Socrates Brito: Finalizes deal with KBO club
Brito signed Sunday with the Kia Tigers of the Korea Baseball Organization, agreeing to a one-year, $600,000 deal that includes an additional $300,000 in incentives, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.
Brito likely would have had to settle for a minor-league deal if he elected to keep his career going in North America, so he'll head to Asia in order to gain some more financial security. The 29-year-old outfielder spent the 2021 campaign in the Yankees organization and played exclusively at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, slashing .251/.315/.376 with nine home runs and 22 stolen bases across 419 plate appearances.

Socrates Brito: Heading to Korea
Brito plans to sign a contract with a KBO club, Sung Min Kim of The Athletic reports.
While it's not yet clear which team Brito plans to sign with, he'll head overseas after serving as organizational depth for the Yankees in 2021. He slashed .251/.315/.376 with nine homers, 57 runs, 53 RBI and 22 stolen bases in 107 games at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre last year.

Brito signed with the Yankees as a non-roster invitee Friday, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.
The 28-year-old has yet to show anything at the big-league level that indicates he deserves even a bench spot, hitting .179/.216/.309 in 99 games over parts of four seasons. He didn't play at all in 2020 after electing to opt out of the season. The Yankees do have quite a few injury-prone players in their outfield, so there's a possible path for at-bats for Brito, but there's little reason to believe he'll do much with them.

Pirates' Socrates Brito: Opting out of season
Brito decided to opt out of the remainder of the 2020 season after his brother passed away from COVID-19 last week, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.
Brito was unable to make the Opening Day roster and has since been at the Pirates' alternate training site. He'll sit out the rest of the season after the tragic death of his sibling.

Brito (illness) arrived at the Pirates' camp Saturday, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.
Manager Derek Shelton revealed Sunday that Brito had tested positive for COVID-19, but he's apparently produced two negative tests, allowing him to rejoin the team under MLB protocol. The 27-year-old should serve as outfield depth for the Pirates as part of the team's 60-man roster this season.

Brito provided consent for the announcement of his positive test result, though Shelton was unable to say whether or not he's experiencing symptoms. The 27-year-old is in Pittsburgh's 60-player roster pool as outfield depth, but he'll need to produce two negative tests before being cleared to participate in workouts.

Brito was acquired by the Blue Jays in early April, but he struggled in the majors with a .291 OPS and 17 strikeouts over 17 appearances. He was more effective at the Triple-A level, hitting .282/.328/.510 with 16 home runs and 67 RBI over 97 games. He could see some time in the majors in 2020, but he has been unproductive in his limited big-league experience in the past.

His second-inning single brought home the first of four Jays runs in the inning and also marked Brito's first base knock in nine games with the team. His athleticism keeps getting him big-league opportunities, but the 26-year-old's .530 career OPS in 202 plate appearances puts him far off the fantasy radar.

Following his acquisition last week, Brito entered the starting nine for three of the Blue Jays' four games in Cleveland over the weekend. The outfielder failed to impress in his initial action with Toronto, finishing the series 0-for-10 with five strikeouts. Brito should still be in the mix for semi-regular playing time with the Blue Jays, but the trio of Teoscar Hernandez, Billy McKinney and Randal Grichuk looks like manager Charlie Montoyo's preferred outfield arrangement at the moment.

Brito is leading off and starting in right field Friday against Cleveland.
This is the second straight game Brito has gotten the start in right field, but it's his first game at the top of the order. The 26-year-old had an uninspiring .175/.227/.250 slash line through 24 games last year, but it looks like Toronto is just trying to see what they have with Brito with fellow right fielder Billy McKinney starting the year off 2-for-20. It will probably be a few more games before the Blue Jays figure out their regular outfield rotation after sending veteran Kevin Pillar to the Giants on Wednesday.

Brito was claimed off waivers by the Padres on Wednesday, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.
It's a somewhat odd move, as the Padres' outfield seems to be quite full already with Wil Myers, Manuel Margot, Franmil Reyes, Hunter Renfroe and Franchy Cordero. It's possible Brito will win a bench role, possibly over Cordero, but the Padres could also be attempting to send Brito back through waivers again and have him serve a depth role at the Triple-A level.

Diamondbacks' Socrates Brito: Placed on outright waivers
The Diamondbacks placed Brito on outright waivers Monday, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.
The timing of the transaction was less than ideal for Arizona, which saw outfielder Steven Souza suffer a left knee injury in Monday's exhibition against the White Sox. With Souza likely headed for IL to open the season, Brito is no longer a candidate to provide extra insurance in the outfield now that he's without a spot on the 40-man roster. The Diamondbacks are hopeful to keep Brito in the organization at Triple-A Reno, but he'll have to go unclaimed off waivers before that happens.
