  • Rockies' Brett Oberholtzer: Lands with Colorado on MiLB deal

Oberholtzer signed a minor-league contract with the Rockies on Tuesday, Chris Cotillo of SB Nation reports.

The southpaw has a fair amount of big-league experience, but he hasn't found all that much success at the highest level. Oberholtzer has a 4.36 ERA and 1.40 WHIP in 324 career innings. He most recently spent time with the Blue Jays' Triple-A affiliate as a starter, and it seems like he'll fill a similar organizational depth role with Colorado.

  • Blue Jays' Brett Oberholtzer: Returns to Triple-A

Oberholtzer was outrighted to Triple-A Buffalo on Thursday.

The 28-year-old cleared waivers after spending one day on Toronto's 40-man roster. Oberholtzer could return to the majors if the Blue Jays are in need of a spot start, but for the time being the southpaw will remain in Triple-A.

  • Blue Jays' Brett Oberholtzer: DFA'd Tuesday

Oberholtzer was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays on Tuesday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Oberholtzer was cut loose in order to clear room on the roster for Norichika Aoki, who was acquired from the Astros on Monday. The southpaw didn't make an appearance for the big club this season, and he held just a 4.48 ERA across 94.1 innings with Triple-A Buffalo, so it's possible he'll return to the Bisons if he passes through waivers untouched.

  • Blue Jays' Brett Oberholtzer: Heading to big leagues

Oberholtzer was called up from Triple-A Buffalo on Monday, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

With the departure of Francisco Liriano via trade, Oberholtzer will head to the majors to provide a fresh arm for manager John Gibbons. A starter for the Bisons, the 28-year-old southpaw likely projects as a long reliever for the Blue Jays, although a spot start down the road certainly isn't out of the question.

  • Blue Jays' Brett Oberholtzer: Awful for second straight spring outing

Oberholtzer failed to record an out while giving up four runs on three hits and two walks in Thursday's game against the Phillies.

The left-hander, who signed a minor-league deal with the Jays in December, has now given up seven runs on five hits and four walks while failing to record a strikeout over his first two spring appearances. Although it's awfully early in the spring, Oberholtzer has put himself behind the eight ball in terms of making the 25-man roster.

  • Blue Jays' Brett Oberholtzer: Signs minor league deal with Jays

Oberholtzer signed a minor league deal with the Blue Jays on Wednesday that includes an invite to spring training, FanRag Sports' Jon Heyman reports.

He washed out with the Phillies and Angels last season, and should serve as pitching depth at Triple-A for the Jays in 2017. With a career 15.6 percent strikeout rate, it is hard to see Oberholtzer being fantasy relevant anytime soon.

  • Angels' Brett Oberholtzer: Outrighted to Triple-A

Oberholtzer cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday.

He posted a 5.89 ERA and 1.62 WHIP over 70.1 innings in the big leagues last year, so it's no surprise he went unclaimed. He'll serve as organizational depth going forward.

  • Angels' Brett Oberholtzer: Designated for assignment Friday

Oberholtzer was designated for assignment Friday.

Oberholtzer spent all of 2016 at the major league level but was a disaster for the most part, as he could only muster a 5.89 ERA and a 54:29 K:BB ratio in 70.1 innings. The left-hander is only 27 years old, but his peripherals are horrendous, making it unlikely that he'll be anything more than organizational depth going forward.

  • Angels' Brett Oberholtzer: Out of Angels rotation

Oberholtzer will move to the bullpen going forward, the Los Angeles Times' Pedro Moura reports.

Alex Meyer will take his place in the rotation, which comes as no surprise, as Oberholtzer lasted just one inning in his start Friday. He should serve in a mop-up role out of the bullpen over the final month.

  • Angels' Brett Oberholtzer: Lasts one inning Friday versus Mariners

Oberholtzer lasted just one inning Friday versus the Mariners, allowing five runs on three hits and three walks. The Angels were unable to climb out of the early hole, dooming him to his third loss of the season.

The start couldn't have gone much worse for Oberholtzer, who was tasked with spelling the bullpen for as long as he could, as he was removed after laboring through just one frame with 49 pitches. His ERA now sits at 5.82 on the season, but as things stand now, he's in line to take his next turn Wednesday against the Athletics.

  • Angels' Brett Oberholtzer: Will start Saturday

The Angels announced Friday that Oberholtzer will start Saturday's game against the Tigers, Pedro Moura of the LA Times reports.

Oberholtzer will take the spot of Jhoulys Chacin in the Angels' rotation. It's not clear if he will remain in the rotation beyond Saturday because the Angels will not need a fifth starter again until Sept. 6, but he will get at least one opportunity to show what he can do as a starter for the club who acquired him earlier this month.

  • Phillies' Brett Oberholtzer: DFA'd Saturday

Oberholtzer was designated for assignment Saturday, Stephen Gross of the Morning Call reports.

Even though Oberholtzer is coming off four consecutive scoreless innings, the Phillies needed to make room for Jake Thompson on the 40-man roster. Oberholtzer has compiled a 4.83 ERA and 1.55 WHIP over 50.1 innings this year in the majors.

  • Phillies' Brett Oberholtzer: Two scoreless innings Wednesday

Oberholtzer pitched two scoreless innings of relief in a 5-4 victory over the Giants on Wednesday.

Oberholtzer came into the game with the Phillies down by four, he held the Giants scoreless while the Phillies' offense began chipping away at the lead. He will continue to be used in a mop-up and long relief role which limits his chances to provide useful fantasy stats given his poor strikeout rate.

  • Phillies' Brett Oberholtzer: Passed up for spot start

Oberholtzer will remain in the bullpen, as the Phillies have elected to start Adam Morgan on Thursday in Colorado.

Oberholtzer had been in consideration for a spot start, but he was ultimately passed over for the assignment. However, given Morgan's struggles to pitch deep into games, it wouldn't be surprising to see Oberholtzer contribute a few innings in that contest.

  • Phillies' Brett Oberholtzer: Could make spot start Thursday

Oberholtzer and Adam Morgan are the likely options to start for the Phillies on Thursday in place of Aaron Nola, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

Nola is having his last start before the All-Star break skipped. Manager Pete Mackanin said the Phillies will make a decision by Wednesday regarding who will start Thursday against the Rockies.

  • Phillies' Brett Oberholtzer: Notches first save of season Wednesday

Oberholtzer pitched a scoreless 10th inning while allowing one hit and striking out one to earn his first save of the year Wednesday at the Diamondbacks.

Oberholtzer came on to protect a one-run lead after Jeanmar Gomez had pitched 1.1 innings, leading to a rare save opportunity. Despite notching the save, this was only the third time in his last eight outings that he hasn't allowed a run to score, and his ERA is at 5.22 on the year.

  • Phillies' Brett Oberholtzer: Works four scoreless innings Wednesday

Oberholtzer was tagged with a loss despite pitching four scoreless innings of relief Wednesday after Vince Velasquez exited his start after facing just one batter.

Velasquez left his start with right biceps soreness and is likely going to require a stint on the disabled list. Oberholtzer is a candidate to take Velasquez's spot, but the Phillies could also consider going with Zach Eflin or David Buchanan. Oberholtzer has struggled adjusting to a relief role this season, but he does have a 3.84 ERA as a starter during his time with the Astros.

  • Phillies' Brett Oberholtzer: Earns second win Saturday

Oberholtzer earned a win with a scoreless inning of relief in Saturday's 4-3 victory over the Marlins.

The scoreless inning lowered Oberholtzer's ERA to 9.00. He's been used in long relief this season, primarily to mop up games that have gotten out of hand. He has added fuel to the fire most of the time, having given up eight home runs in his six outings.
