Danny Farquhar: Shifts to coaching gig
Farquhar took a job with the White Sox as a pitching coach, ending his playing career, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
Farquhar was released by the Yankees in June and opted to transition to a coaching role after failing to latch on elsewhere. Across parts of seven big-league seasons, the right-hander compiled a career 3.93 ERA and 10.2 K/9 in 272.1 innings.

The Yankees released the 32-year-old reliever Wednesday after he appeared in just two games for the RailRiders. He struggled in those appearances, giving up seven earned runs on six hits over three innings.

Farquhar joined Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday, Michele Steele of ESPN reports.
Farquhar remained in extended spring training while recovering from the brain aneurysm he suffered last April. He's not on the Yankees' 40-man roster but could still make a push for a bullpen spot should he impress at the Triple-A level.

Farquhar will stay in Tampa to continue building back to a normal pitching workload before heading to a minor-league affiliate, James Wagner of The New York Times reports.
Farquhar will presumably being sent to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre once he's up to speed. The 32-year-old suffered a brain aneurysm at the beginning of last season and was cleared to resume baseball activities in late November, but struggled in his one appearance in spring training, giving up six runs on four hits in two innings pitched. If the righty is able to re-establish his command, it's possible he find his way onto the major-league roster.

Farquhar was sent to minor-league camp Tuesday, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports.
Farquhar allowed six runs in two innings during his time in big-league camp, walking five while striking out none, but the fact that he's pitching at all is remarkable after he suffered a brain hemorrhage in April of last year. He could be a depth option for the Yankees this season if he's able to regain his stuff in the minors.

Yankees' Danny Farquhar: Likely to make spring debut Saturday
Farquhar said that he's listed among the pitchers available out of the bullpen for Saturday's exhibition versus the Pirates, Brendan Kuty of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Assuming that list remains accurate once the weekend arrives, Farquhar will make his first appearance in a competitive setting since April 20, when he suffered a brain hemorrhage that required emergency surgery. Farquhar received medical clearance in November to resume his career and signed with the Yankees later in the winter, but the club has still taken a cautious approach with his usage this spring. The lefty completed his second simulated game Wednesday and now looks ready to compete for a spot in the big-league bullpen, per Coley Harvey of ESPN.com.

Farquhar signed a minor-league contract with the Yankees on Monday, Jon Heyman of FancredSports.com reports.
Farquhar suffered a major health scare in 2018, so this is an encouraging development for the soon-to-be 32-year-old. The right-hander owns a career 3.92 ERA and 1.26 WHIP across 272.1 major-league innings, so he should have a good shot at claiming an Opening Day bullpen gig, though nothing is guaranteed given the Yankees' impressive bullpen depth coupled with the uncertainty surrounding Farquhar's return.

Farquhar (head) was discharged from the hospital Monday and is resting at home with his family.
Farquhar suffered a brain hemorrhage from a ruptured aneurysm in the dugout during a game in mid-April. His neurosurgeon expects him to be able to pitch again in the future, but he's been officially ruled out for the remainder of the season in order to allow him to fully recover.

Farquhar (head) had successful surgery to address a brain aneurysm and is progressing well Monday.
Farquhar collapsed in the dugout Friday with a brain hemorrhage caused by a ruptured aneurysm. He is in critical but stable condition in an ICU unit, able to use his extremities and respond to questions and commands. He is set to be closely monitored at the hospital for at least the next three weeks.
