Ivan Nova: Headed overseas
Nova signed a one-year contract with the SSG Landers of the Korean Baseball League on Monday, Jee-ho Yoo of the Yonhap News Agency reports.
Nova was released by the Rockies in May of 2021 and failed to make an appearance elsewhere the rest of the season. His last MLB appearance dates back to 2020 with the Tigers, where he finished with an 8.53 ERA and 1.63 WHIP with a 9:9 K:BB over 19 innings (four starts).

Ivan Nova: Released by Rockies
Nova was released by the Rockies on Thursday, Nick Groke of The Athletic reports.
Nova spent less than three weeks with the Rockies' organization and never cracked the 40-man roster. It's unclear why they lost interest in him so soon. The 34-year-old is coming off a year in which he recorded an 8.53 ERA over four starts, be he kept his ERA below 4.75 in each of the four previous seasons, so it's certainly possible he can fill in somewhere as a back-end starter.

Rockies' Ivan Nova: Signs with Rockies
Nova signed a contract with the Rockies on Monday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
Nova was let go by the Phillies at the end of spring training after he posted a 7.30 ERA and 1.95 WHIP with six strikeouts in 12.1 innings this spring. Starter Kyle Freeland (shoulder) is currently sidelined and doesn't yet have a timetable to return, but it's not clear whether Nova's agreement is a major-league contract or whether he'll be ready to pitch for his new team right away. Nova made four starts for the Tigers in 2020 before he was shut down due to right triceps tendinitis, and he posted an 8.53 ERA and 1.63 WHIP in 19 innings.

Ivan Nova: Let go by Phillies
Nova was released by the Phillies on Thursday, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
The veteran was in camp as a non-roster invitee but evidently wasn't going to win a roster spot, so he's been allowed to seek work elsewhere. The transaction seemingly indicates good things about the health of at least one of Zach Eflin (back), Spencer Howard (back) or Vince Velasquez (oblique), as Nova could have made a spot start or two to open the season if all three of that trio were forced to head to the injured list.

Phillies' Ivan Nova: Starting Grapefruit League opener
Nova (triceps) will start the first game of the Grapefruit League season against the Tigers on Sunday, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Nova missed most of the 2020 season due to right triceps tendinitis, but he signed a minor-league contract with Philadelphia in January and should compete for a spot in the back of the rotation during spring training. That he's starting Sunday signals that he should be fully healthy this spring.

Nova (triceps) signed a minor-league contract with the Phillies on Tuesday, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
The deal will pay the veteran righty $1.5 million if he's able to make the big-league roster. Now 34 years old, Nova appeared to have something left in the tank up until very recently, recording an unexciting but acceptable 4.31 ERA from 2016 to 2019. His 2020 campaign went quite poorly, however, as he struggled to an 8.53 ERA and a 9:9 K:BB in four starts before being shut down with triceps tendinitis. Beating out Vince Velasquez for the Phillies' fifth starter spot is certainly not an insurmountable task if Nova is fully healthy, though he won't be a particularly exciting fantasy option if he does win the job, as he's been a low-strikeout innings eater for the bulk of his career.

Tigers' Ivan Nova: Done for year after setbacks
Nova (triceps) is out for the season after suffering multiple setbacks and was moved to the 45-day injured list Wednesday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Nova struggled to an 8.53 ERA and a 9:9 K:BB in four starts prior to landing on the injured list with right triceps tendinitis in mid-August. Unless the setbacks were particularly severe, he should have time to heal before the start of next season.

Tigers' Ivan Nova: Heading to injured list
The Tigers announced Saturday that they are placing Nova on the 10-day injured list with right triceps tendinitis and are recalling Anthony Castro from their alternate training site in a corresponding move.
Less than 24 hours after getting walloped for eight runs, Nova is headed to the IL. While he didn't last long during his outing, there were no initial reports saying that he had been experiencing any discomfort in his arm. Many fans were hoping the Tigers would promote Casey Mize, but that does not appear to be the case as of yet. Nova is eligible to return Aug. 25, although it has not been confirmed whether he will return after the minimum 10 days or if he will need extended time on the shelf.

Tigers' Ivan Nova: Knocked around for eight runs
Nova (1-1) took the loss Friday against Cleveland after surrendering eight runs on five hits and two walks with just a single strikeout in 3.1 innings.
After an easy 1-2-3 first inning, Nova began the second frame by walking Carlos Santana and then giving up a two-run shot to Franmil Reyes to get the Indians on the board. After a clean third inning, he ran into loads of trouble in the fourth, highlighted by Domingo Santana's three-run blast to left. Nova has yet to reach the six-inning mark in any of his four starts this season and is in line for another tough matchup against an explosive White Sox offense Wednesday.

Nova (1-0) earned the win Saturday in Pittsburgh after giving up five runs on six hits over five innings. He had three strikeouts and three walks.
The right-hander allowed five runs across his first two starts, but it's Saturday's forgettable outing that results in his first win of the season. Nova has a 5.74 ERA and 1.53 WHIP through 15.2 innings, and he currently lines up to start one game of Thursday's makeup doubleheader against the Cardinals.

The Cardinals and Tigers had planned on having a doubleheader Wednesday, with Nova starting one of those games, but St. Louis has decided against traveling to Detroit with 13 members of the Cardinals organization testing positive for the virus. Tigers' Ivan Nova: Solid in no-decision
Nova pitched 5.2 innings against Detroit on Thursday, allowing two runs on eight hits while striking out three. He did not issue any walks and did not factor in the decision.
Nova fell one out short of a quality start, but he nonetheless held his own in holding the Royals to a pair of runs. He demonstrated excellent control in the contest, throwing 61 of 82 pitches over the plate and issuing first-pitch strikes to 17 of 25 batters. Nova doesn't offer much in the strikeout department, but he has some deep league streaming appeal against lower-tier offenses. He's lined up for a two-start week next week as he'll face St. Louis at home Tuesday and Pittsburgh on the road Sunday.

Tigers' Ivan Nova: Limits Reds to three runs
Nova allowed three runs on three hits and four walks while striking out two over five innings in a no-decision against the Reds on Saturday.
Joey Votto and Freddy Galvis got to Nova for homers early on. Four free passes and two homers allowed tell you this was not a great outing by any means, but to Nova's credit he did enough to keep the Tigers around and they ultimately rallied against the Reds' bullpen. The 33-year-old is an innings eater at this stage and does not warrant attention in most fantasy leagues, though it's worth noting for those in deep formats that Nova gets the Royals at home next week and currently lines up for a two-step the week of Aug. 3 (vs. STL, @PIT).

Tigers' Ivan Nova: Will be stretched out to begin year
Tigers pitching coach Rick Anderson said he expects Nova and the other Detroit starters to be stretched out to at least 75 pitches by the end of summer camp, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
This should put Nova and the other starters in line for pretty regular workloads by their first or second start of the season. If that's the case, Detroit will likely stick with a standard five-man rotation and could use Tyler Alexander and Michael Fulmer in long-relief roles out of the gate. Nova agreed to a one-year deal with the Tigers in January, and the veteran figures to serve as a stopgap until the likes of Matt Manning and Casey Mize are ready to take over in Detroit, which could happen sometime this summer.

Tigers' Ivan Nova: Could be No. 4 starter
Nova will likely be Detroit's No. 4 starter when the regular season is able to begin, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
McCosky projects Detroit's rotation to go Matthew Boyd, Spencer Turnbull, Jordan Zimmermann and then Nova, with Daniel Norris rounding things out as the No. 5 starter. Tigers' Ivan Nova: Allows five runs Wednesday
Nova was tagged for five runs on seven hits across three innings in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Red Sox. He struck out two.
Nova had some nice moments with the White Sox last year, but as a guy with a 5.5 K/9 rate, he's liable for games like this due to his inability to consistently miss bats. The veteran should eat up some innings for the Tigers with a middling ERA and strikeout total, making him more of a streaming candidate than a true fantasy asset.
