Bobby Parnell: Cut loose by Chicago
Parnell was released by the White Sox on Monday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Parnell was signed to a minor-league pact in the beginning of June, but the right-hander got shelled in Triple-A -- in 13.1 innings of work, he allowed 17 earned runs on 25 hits. His MLB experience may give him some notoriety on the free-agent market, but his best days appear to be behind him.

White Sox's Bobby Parnell: Latches on with White Sox
Parnell signed a minor-league contract with the White Sox on Monday, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports.
Parnell began the season in the Royals' organization, but he exercised his opt-out clause after failing to garner a call-up during the first two months of the season. He appeared 15 times with Kansas City's Triple-A affiliate, producing a 4.71 ERA and 1.57 WHIP. His control was lackluster at best (5.6 BB/9), so he'll likely act as an organizational depth piece unless he can improve his performance.

Bobby Parnell: Opts out of minor-league pact
Parnell exercised the opt-out clause in his minor-league deal Friday to become a free agent, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports.
Parnell posted a 4.71 ERA over 21 innings with Triple-A Omaha. The 32-year-old right-hander could latch on with another organization this season but probably will top out as a depth pitcher.

Royals' Bobby Parnell: Gets reassigned to minors
Parnell was reassigned to the Royals' minor league camp Monday, MLB.com's Jeffrey Flanagan reports.
Injury woes have derailed a once-promising career for Parnell, who spent most of last season with Triple-A Toledo in the Tigers organization. After submitting an uninspiring 3.95 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in 43.1 innings with Toledo, Parnell will need to show dramatic improvement for Triple-A Omaha before the Royals consider adding him to the 40-man roster.

Parnell hasn't shown major league effectiveness since undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2014, so this is strictly a reclamation project for the Royals. He has shown top-shelf bullpen stuff in the past; it's just a question if he will ever be able to find that stuff again.

Parnell's performance was unimpressive in the MLB this season, as he allowed four runs over just 5.1 innings (six games). However, his career ERA and WHIP in the majors are 3.82 and 1.44, respectively. While these aren't phenomenal marks, a team may be interested in Parnell to add depth to their bullpen, whether it be with the big club or a minor league affiliate.

The Tigers opted to call up outfielder Alex Presley from Triple-A after Tyler Collins sustained a bruised knee Wednesday night, so a move to free up a roster spot was necessary, and Parnell will be the casualty. Parnell was recalled from Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday.
Since getting demoted back on June 14, Parnell has allowed just one run over nine appearances, bringing his minor league ERA down to 3.07 following some early-season struggles. He'll now head back to Detroit to provide support in middle relief.

Parnell was optioned to Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday.
Parnell has struggled in limited action since his contract was purchased by the Tigers at the start of the month, allowing four hits and three earned runs across 3.2 innings of relief work. The 31-year-old will now head back to Triple-A, where he holds a 3.98 ERA in 20.1 innings on the season. He'll be replaced in the Detroit bullpen by Buck Farmer, who was officially recalled Tuesday in a corresponding move.

Tigers' Bobby Parnell: Contract selected Wednesday
Parnell had his contract purchased Wednesday by the Tigers, Anthony Fenech reports.
Parnell had spent the previous eight seasons with the Mets, posting a 3.78 career ERA as a reliever. However, he had a career-worst 6.38 ERA in 2015 through 24 innings of relief, leading him to sign a minor league deal with the Tigers. After putting up a 3.98 ERA in 21 appearances for Triple-A Toledo, he will now get a shot to contribute at the big league level again with Tigers' reliever Warwick Saupold placed on the 15-day DL.
