J.P. Crawford enjoyed a wonderful breakout season offensively after years of fantasy managers waiting for the production to catch up with the potential with him. Crawford parlayed his excellent OBP skills into scoring 94 runs thanks to a career high walk rate which helped him get on base 38% of the time. Crawford's batting average splits were nil but 16 of his 19 homers came against righties and he was a monster in the second half trying to personally will Seattle into returning to the postseason with 11 homers, 47 runs, and a .282/.401/.492 line during that time. Crawford opened the season hitting 9th but quickly moved to the leadoff and remained there most of the season. That role should continue for him as he has the best OBP chops on the roster. Crawford is one of 23 players with at least 600 plate appearances in each of the past three seasons and just one of five shortstops to do so. He was a bargain in 2023 drafts, but his price has risen significantly this draft season.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Stays hot in Monday's win

Crawford went 2-for-4 with a double and a run in a win over the Astros on Monday. Crawford provided one of two multi-hit efforts for the Mariners on the afternoon while hitting safely for the sixth time in the last seven starts. The veteran shortstop has been clicking at the plate since his return an IL stay from an oblique injury, producing a .296 average and .848 OPS across his last 30 plate appearances despite a 26.7 percent strikeout rate in the same span.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Provides only offense in loss

Crawford went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to the Nationals on Friday. Crawford led off the contest with a 399-foot shot to center field, and that would ironically be the only run-producing offense of the night for Seattle. The veteran shortstop has now hit safely in all four starts he's drawn since coming off the injured list, but his homer was his first since April 8.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: In-game replacement in IL return

Crawford (oblique), activated from the injured list earlier in the day, entered Monday's win over the Yankees as a pinch hitter in the eighth inning and remained in the game at shortstop, going 0-for-2. Crawford struck out swinging in his pinch-hit appearance and subsequently flied out to center to close out the ninth. The veteran shortstop was logging his first game action since April 23, and given his in-game appearance and ability to play defense Monday, he's a likely candidate to return to the starting nine Tuesday.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Likely to be activated Tuesday

Crawford (oblique) will go through a pregame workout Monday before likely being activated from the injured list Tuesday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. Crawford is with the Mariners in New York and insists he's ready to go, but the club wants to see him get through a workout first before it brings him back. He's been out since late April with a Grade 1 right oblique strain. Dylan Moore is handling shortstop again for Seattle on Monday.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Joining team in New York

Crawford (oblique) is set to join the Mariners ahead of their three-game series with the Yankees beginning Monday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports. Crawford appears to be ready to rejoin the major-league roster after being placed on the 10-day injured list with a Grade 1 right oblique strain April 25. The shortstop went 1-for-5 with a run scored during his short two-game rehab assignment, which was cut short after he was hit in the hand by a pitch Wednesday. Crawford has struggled to a .198/.296/.302 slash line with two homers, nine RBI and 13 runs scored over 86 at-bats in 22 games with Seattle this season. His return will likely push Dylan Moore out of the starting lineup.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Should return this week

Mariners manager Scott Servais said Sunday that Crawford (oblique/hand) is expected to join the club at some point during the four-game series against the Yankees that begins Monday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports. The 29-year-old was unable to join the Mariners as expected in Baltimore this weekend after he was hit by a pitch on the hand during a rehab game Wednesday, but it appears his return will be delayed only a few days. Once activated from the injured list, Crawford should reclaim the starting job at shortstop from Dylan Moore.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Has clubhouse locker, not with team

Crawford (oblique/hand) didn't travel with the team to Baltimore but has a locker in the Mariners' clubhouse, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports. The veteran shortstop was hit by a pitch on the hand during a rehab game Wednesday, and he's experienced some swelling and soreness. The fact that Crawford has a locker indicates he might return from the injured list this weekend.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Timeline to return unclear

Crawford (oblique/hand) didn't travel with the team to Baltimore, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. Crawford was hit by a pitch in the hand during a minor-league rehab assignment Wednesday and was still sore and swollen one day later. He doesn't have a clear timeline to return, and he managed only six plate appearances with Triple-A Tacoma prior to the new injury.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Exits rehab game after HBP

Crawford (oblique) was removed from his rehab game at Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday after getting hit in the hand by a pitch. Crawford was visibly in pain after taking a 90-mph fastball off his right hand/wrist and was immediately taken out of the game by a trainer. He has been working his way back from a right oblique strain he suffered in late April, and Wednesday was expected to be his final appearance in the minors before rejoining the Mariners for their weekend series in Baltimore. However, the 29-year-old shortstop's return may be postponed if the damage to his hand proves to be significant.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Eyeing weekend return

Mariners manager Scott Servais said Crawford (oblique) will play another rehab game for Triple-A Tacoma before likely returning from the 10-day injured list ahead of this weekend's series in Baltimore, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports. Crawford, who has been on the shelf since April 25 with a Grade 1 right oblique strain, kicked off his rehab assignment Tuesday, going 1-for-4 in Tacoma's 8-5 win over Salt Lake while playing seven innings at shortstop. Assuming Crawford feels fine physically coming out of his second rehab outing, he should be ready to rejoin the big club this weekend and settle back in as the team's everyday shortstop. Dylan Moore will shift back into a utility role once Crawford is back with the team.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Set for rehab assignment

Crawford (oblique) took part in batting practice Monday and will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports. Crawford has been on the 10-day injured list with a Grade 1 right oblique strain since April 25, but he appears to be on the cusp of returning to the big-league roster. He'll likely need to participate in multiple contests during his rehab assignment in Triple-A before being activated and could join the team in Baltimore ahead of its three-game series with the Orioles beginning Friday.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Another encouraging step Friday

Crawford (oblique) put in a full pregame workout before the Mariners' series opener against the Athletics on Friday, making throws on groundballs and taking batting practice on the field, MLB.com reports. Not only is the boost in activity level encouraging, but Crawford confirmed after his workout that he's back to full strength. However, the veteran shortstop also conceded he needed to get his timing at the plate back, making it likely he goes on a rehab assignment of no more than two games before potentially being activated.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Taking swings in cage

Manager Scott Servais said Tuesday that Crawford (oblique) took swings in the batting cages at the team's complex in Arizona, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. Servais added that Crawford will progress to hitting on the field with the hopes of swinging at full strength this weekend. If the 29-year-old shortstop is able to do that without any problems, he will embark on a brief rehab assignment before returning to the Mariners' lineup. Crawford had gone 5-for-16 with four RBI across his last four games before landing on the injured list April 25.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Already feeling better

Crawford (oblique) was able to field some grounders and do light jogging in the outfield before Sunday's series finale against the Diamondbacks, MLB.com reports. The activity is significant, considering Crawford was just diagnosed with a Grade 1 oblique strain Wednesday. Crawford is still expected to be sidelined for multiple weeks, but he noted he was feeling much better Sunday than a few days prior, when he'd found it painful to even cough or make general movements.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Scratched Wednesday

Crawford was scratched from the Mariners' lineup ahead of Wednesday's game against the Rangers due to right oblique soreness. The severity of Crawford's injury remains unknown, but it's apparently enough to keep him from starting in Wednesday's contest. Dylan Moore will enter the lineup as Seattle's new shortstop and bat eighth.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Gets first day off of season

Crawford is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds. The Mariners are wrapping up their series against Cincinnati with a day game after a night game and a lefty (Andrew Abbott) is on the hill for the Reds, so Seattle skipper Scott Servais likely felt that it was an opportune time to give the lefty-hitting Crawford a day off. Crawford will cede shortstop to Dylan Moore while Julio Rodriguez replaces Crawford atop the batting order.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: First multi-hit game of season

Crawford went 2-for-5 with a run in a win over the Reds on Tuesday. Crawford's multi-hit effort was his first of the season -- a much-needed shot in the arm for his struggling bat. Crawford has now managed to reach safely in eight consecutive games, albeit while mustering just one extra-base hit in that sample. The veteran shortstop's slash line sits at a forgettable .171/.266/.257 across 79 plate appearances, but there aren't yet any discernible rumblings about a potential loss of playing time.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Swats second homer

Crawford went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Monday against Toronto. Although Crawford smacked his second homer of the season, he wasn't able to reach safely in his other three at-bats. He's still looking for his first multi-hit game of 2024, slashing .140/.213/.279 with five runs scored and four RBI over 11 appearances.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Slugs key homer Friday

Crawford went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in a win over the Red Sox on Friday. Crawford sent a Nick Pivetta offering 381 feet into the right-field stands with one out in the sixth inning for what would turn out to be the only run of the game. The veteran shortstop had gone 0-for-4 on Opening Day, so his two times on base Friday were his first of the nascent season.

  • Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Delivers another big hit

Crawford went 1-for-3 with a grand slam, a walk and a second run scored in Friday's 8-0 win over the Rangers. One night after Crawford's game-winning two-run double, the shortstop put an exclamation point on the Mariners' fourth inning rally with a grand slam. He's put together a solid September, batting .257 (28-for-109) with seven homers, 21 RBI, seven doubles and 18 runs scored over 27 contests. He's now at a .266/.381/.440 slash line with 19 long balls, 65 RBI, 94 runs scored and two stolen bases over 143 contests this season.
