The Padres optioned Cosgrove to Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday. Cosgrove heads to the minors for the first time this season. With the Padres, he has allowed 14 earned runs across 12.0 innings in 2024. Last year, the 27-year-old posted a 1.75 ERA across 51.1 innings. The southpaw will look to regather himself in El Paso and find again what he had going last year. In a corresponding move, Yu Darvish was reinstated from the 15-day injured list.... See More ... See Less

Padres' Tom Cosgrove: Snags extra-inning save
Cosgrove pitched a perfect 10th inning to earn the save in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Giants. Regular closer Josh Hader was deployed in the ninth inning to keep the game tied, and he did the job just fine. Cosgrove then worked the 10th, retiring the side on 13 pitches (nine strikes). This was his first big-league save in 52 appearances as a rookie this season -- he's also added six holds and a 1-2 record while mostly seeing lower-leverage work. Cosgrove owns a 1.81 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 43:17 K:BB over 49.2 innings overall.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Tom Cosgrove: Returns from IL
Cosgrove (hamstring) was activated from the 15-day injured list Saturday. Cosgrove returns to action after spending the minimum 15 days on the injured list while dealing with a left hamstring strain. The southpaw has pitched well for the Padres this season, posting a minuscule 0.53 ERA and 0.53 WHIP along with a 15:2 K:BB over 17 innings. He hasn't seen much work in high-leverage spots, though, and has yet to record a hold or a save.... See More ... See Less

AJ Cassavell@AJCassavell3D agoFinal: Marlins 9, Padres 1 The Padres' winning streak comes to an end, as does their chance for their first sweep, as does their chance to go a season-high three games over .500. Yu Darvish labored, and the defense was leaky. Off-day next, then three in KC. Padres are 30-29.

AJ Cassavell@AJCassavell3D agoYu Darvish's day is done after three laborious innings. He threw 66 pitches and allowed six hits and a number of deep counts. Still, Darvish managed to limit the damage a bit, even with some sloppy defending behind him. Padres trail 3-1 as Stephen Kolek takes over in the fourth.
