  • Eagles' John Ross: Signs with Eagles

Ross and the Eagles agreed on a one-year contract Thursday.

Ross announced in late November that he was attempting an NFL comeback after temporarily retiring in July and he participated in Philadelphia's rookie minicamp in April. The wide receiver was selected in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft after posting a blazing 4.22 second 40-yard dash time at the combine, but he has yet to really ever find his groove in the league. Ross last appeared in an NFL contest in 2021, securing 11 receptions for 224 yards and a touchdown over 10 games with the Giants and he'll likely operate primarily as a special-teams option if he cracks the Eagles' active roster in 2024.

  • John Ross: Attempting NFL comeback

Ross is set to participate in rookie minicamp with the Eagles on a tryout basis after announcing his retirement last year, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.

Ross announced his retirement at the start of training camp last year after initially signing a reserve/future contract with Kansas City. He was waived from the Chiefs' reserve/retired list in late November and became a free agent, and he now appears to be interested in reviving his NFL career. Ross' most recent action came in 2021 with the Giants, when he played in 10 games and recorded 11 receptions (on 20 targets) for 224 yards and a touchdown while adding one rush for 16 yards.

  • John Ross: Set to become free agent

The Chiefs waived Ross from their reserve/retired list Monday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.

Ross now wants to return to the NFL after temporarily retiring back in July. He hasn't suited up for a regular-season game since 2021, but his elite speed could get him a second look.

  • John Ross: Hanging up cleats

The Chiefs placed Ross on the reserve/retired list Wednesday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.

The No. 9 overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft signed a one-year deal with the Chifes in January, but he'll opt to step away from the game without even reporting to training camp. After a productive collegiate career at Washington, Ross turned heads at the NFL Scouting Combine when he set the record for the fastest 40-yard dash time (4.22 seconds), but he wasn't able to take advantage of his high-end speed at the NFL level. His most productive season came in 2019, when he caught 28 passes for 506 yards and three touchdowns with Cincinnati. He was plagued by injuries throughout his career, as he appeared in only 37 games for the Bengals and Giants over his five years on an NFL roster.

  • Chiefs' John Ross: Singed to reserve deal by KC

The Chiefs signed Ross to a reserve/future contract Monday, Charles Goldman of USA Today reports.

Ross landed this deal with Kansas City shortly after coming in for a tryout with the team Monday, according to Field Yates of ESPN. The 2017 first-round pick did not appear in a game during the 2022 regular season, as he went unsigned for the duration of this campaign. While the Chiefs are set to play during the divisional round of the playoffs, this deal for Ross will not go into effect until the team's roster size increases beyond the 53-man limit this offseason. Ross last appeared in 10 games for the Giants in 2021, recording 11 receptions (on 20 targets) for 224 yards and a touchdown, and the speedster should compete for a role as a vertical threat heading into the 2023 campaign.
