Greene went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, a run scored and a stolen base in Friday's 7-3 loss to the Red Sox. Getting the start in center field and batting second, Greene was the only Tiger to record multiple hits on the night. The 23-year-old has reached base eight times in the last four games, and on the season he's slashing .239/.343/.449 with 10 homers, two steals, 22 RBI and 37 runs through 56 contests.... See More ... Tigers' Riley Greene: Goes deep Thursday
Greene went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk Thursday in a 5-0 victory versus the Red Sox. Greene launched a two-run shot in the eighth inning to double Detroit's lead. The long ball snapped a 19-game homer drought that extended back to May 6. Greene has nonetheless gone deep 10 times this season, so he's already one homer away from matching the 11 he hit over 416 plate appearances last year.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Riley Greene: Reaches three times in doubleheader
Greene went 2-for-7 with a walk, a double and two runs scored in Wednesday's doubleheader against the Pirates. Greene did most of his damage in the first game, when he went 2-for-4 with both of his runs, then cooled down against Paul Skenes and the Pittsburgh bullpen in the nightcap. That's a microcosm of the outfielder's season, as he was batting .257 with a .911 OPS through the end of April, but he's batting just .204 with a .590 OPS this month. Greene has the talent to get rolling again, however, and fantasy managers will just need to be patient with the 23-year-old.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Riley Greene: Heading to bench Sunday
Greene is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays. Greene is in the midst of a 2-for-22 slump and will sit Sunday after making nine straight starts. Mark Canha will shift to left field while Carson Kelly receives a turn at designated hitter.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Riley Greene: Getting Wednesday off
Greene is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins. Greene has started each of the Tigers' last 22 games and appears to be getting a breather as Detroit wraps up its series against the Marlins with a day game. Matt Vierling will pick up a start in left field in place of Greene, who hit .135/.200/.243 with 13 strikeouts over his last nine starts.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Riley Greene: Provides all the offense Monday
Greene went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Monday's 2-1 loss to the Guardians. Greene got Detroit on the board early, belting a leadoff home run against Triston McKenzie in the top of the first inning. However, he and his teammates went quiet from there. Fantasy managers won't mind too much, as the young outfielder now has four home runs over his last seven games, which has pushed him up to nine long balls for the season. Greene hit a career-high 11 home runs last year, and it looks like he should fly past that number in 2024.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Riley Greene: Pops two homers Tuesday
Greene went 4-for-9 with a double, two home runs and three total RBI across both games of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Cardinals. Greene provided all of Detroit's offense with a solo home run in the first game Tuesday, a 2-1 loss, but he really got going in the nightcap. He collected three hits in the 11-6 win, including a double and another homer, his seventh of the season. The talented young outfielder has pushed his OPS up to a robust .912, and the sky is the limit for Greene the rest of the way if he manages to stay healthy.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Riley Greene: Goes yard twice in win
Greene went 2-for-3 with a walk, two home runs and three RBI in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Rays. The Orlando native put on a show for friends and family in Tampa Bay, launching a solo shot to center field off Ryan Pepiot in the third inning before crushing a Colin Poche fastball to left-center in the eighth for a game-winning, two-run blast. Greene snapped a 14-game homer drought with the performance, but he appears poised on the brink of an offensive eruption -- his 20.6 percent walk rate is more than double last year's mark, while his Statcast page is covered in red ink as he sits in the 99th percentile in barrel rate and 91st percentile in xwOBA. That's translated into a .247/.402/.506 slash line through 102 plate appearances with five homers, 11 RBI and 20 runs.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Riley Greene: Receives breather Friday
Greene is out of the lineup for Friday's game at Minnesota, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. Greene started Detroit's first 19 games of the season but will receive a well-deserved day off for the series opener versus the Twins. Wenceel Perez will take over in right field and bat second.... Tigers' Riley Greene: Tallies two extra-base hits
Greene went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, a triple, an RBI and two runs scored in Thursday's 9-7 loss to the Rangers. While Greene's batting average is still a bit underwhelming at .239, his .849 OPS is stronger due to eight extra-base knocks through 19 games. In fact, exactly half of the outfielder's hits have gone for extra bases so far. Greene is heating up, and with his ability to leg out doubles or hit the ball over the wall, he should be primed for good numbers the rest of the way.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Riley Greene: Reaches, scores twice in win
Greene went 1-for-3 with a walk, a double, an RBI and two runs scored in Friday's 8-2 win over the Twins. Greene moved up to the leadoff spot for the first time this season and responded with a strong game. Perhaps the lineup shuffle will jump-start the 23-year-old, as he's still batting just .214. However, Greene does have a solid .829 OPS, and if he continues to make consistent contact, huge numbers could be right around the corner.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Riley Greene: Moves up to leadoff spot
Greene is starting at shortstop and batting leadoff Friday against the Twins. The 23-year-old has primarily hit out of the cleanup spot this season but has also hit second and third, and he'll now make his way to the top of the lineup. Parker Meadows had served as Detroit's leadoff man against right-handed pitching to this point, but it appears his 2-for-25 start is getting him bumped down the order. Greene should see a boost in runs atop the order, though that'll likely be at the expense of RBI.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Riley Greene: Goes deep in doubleheader
Greene went 2-for-6 with three walks, a solo home run and an additional run scored across both games of Thursday's doubleheader against the Mets. Greene did most of his damage in the first game, when he launched his second home run of the young season in the eighth inning. The outfielder is scuffling a bit with a .143 average across six contests, though two of his three total hits so far have left the yard. Greene should get that batting average up, and if he keeps hitting for power, he should be able to put up big numbers.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Riley Greene: Hits first 2024 home run
Greene went 1-for-4 with a walk, a solo home run and two runs scored in Saturday's 7-6, 10-inning win over the White Sox. Greene's first home run of the year in the seventh inning helped the Tigers erase a 6-4 deficit in the frame and force extra innings. The talented outfielder had Tommy John surgery at the end of last season and may need some time to get rolling in 2024, though all the tools are there for him to have a big campaign. Greene recorded 11 home runs and a .796 OPS across 99 games in 2023.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Riley Greene: Keeps rolling Monday
Greene went 1-for-2 with a double in Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Astros and is now batting .350 this spring. Greene's spring debut was delayed slightly as he recovered from his September Tommy John surgery, but the talented outfielder has hit the ground running. He's gone 7-for-20 in nine Grapefruit League contests, with three of those hits going for extra bases. Greene looks ready for the regular season, and the toolsy 23-year-old could be poised for a breakout campaign if he stays healthy.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Riley Greene: Back in action
Greene (elbow) will start in right field and bat leadoff in Tuesday's split-squad game against the Blue Jays, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. Greene's spring debut was delayed slightly after he had Tommy John surgery on his right (non-throwing) elbow last September. He was able to make his Grapefruit League debut as the designated hitter Monday and is now ready to take the field for the first time this spring. He showed significant improvement at the plate last season, adding more than 100 points in OPS, and Greene figures to take another step forward as Detroit's everyday right fielder in his age-23 campaign.... Tigers' Riley Greene: Faces live pitching
Greene (elbow) took live batting practice Tuesday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. It's the first time he's faced live pitching since he underwent Tommy John surgery on his right (non-throwing) elbow in September. Greene noted that he "didn't even think about my arm" during the session, adding that he's felt "normal" for a while now. While the Tigers are likely to ease Greene into Grapefruit League action, he's fully expected to be ready to roll come Opening Day.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Riley Greene: Set to face live pitching
Greene (elbow) is scheduled to face live pitching this week, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. Greene may not be included in Detroit's initial lineups when the team kicks off Grapefruit League play Saturday, but he doesn't appear to be far behind the team's other healthy hitters as he works his way back from the Tommy John surgery he had on his right (non-throwing) elbow in September. He's performing all other baseball activities, so he should be cleared to play in games as soon as the Tigers are confident that he's swinging the bat at full speed without discomfort.... Tigers' Riley Greene: Expects to play Grapefruit opener
Greene (elbow) expects to be ready to play at the beginning of the Tigers' Grapefruit League schedule, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports. The Tigers' plan for the outfielder is to mix him in at both designated hitter and the outfield in the early going this spring. Greene is just five months removed from Tommy John surgery, but because it was on his right (non-throwing) elbow, he's on an accelerated timeline which will have him ready to roll for Opening Day.... Tigers' Riley Greene: Working out at spring complex
Greene (elbow) has been hitting, playing catch and going through some defensive drills at the Tigers' spring training complex in Florida, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. Greene is not even four months removed from Tommy John surgery, but because the operation was on his right (non-throwing) elbow, he's facing a much shorter rehab window. It's possible Greene will face some restrictions during spring training, but the expectation is that he will be ready to go by Opening Day.... See More ... See Less
