Butler (wrist) is participating at Washington's organized team activities, Stephen Whyno of the team's official website reports. Butler missed the final two games of the 2023 season due to a wrist injury. The severity of the injury was unknown at that time, but his presence at OTAs indicates his health is back up to par. He projects to start at free safety in the upcoming season opposite Jeremy Chinn.... See More ... See Less

Commanders' Percy Butler: Season over
Butler (wrist) was placed on injured reserve Saturday. Butler missed his first game of the season in Week 16. With the Commanders already being eliminated from playoff contention, they will exercise caution here instead of having the 23-year-old play through the pain. In his absence, Terrell Burgess will presumably fill in at free safety.... See More ... See Less -
Commanders' Percy Butler: Not able to practice Thursday
Butler (wrist) did not participate in practice Thursday. Butler was a limited practice participant Wednesday, but he took a step back with a DNP on Thursday. He's currently tending to a wrist injury that forced him to exit early from Sunday's loss to the Jets. Terrell Burgess took over for Butler in that contest and will likely do so Sunday versus San Francisco as well if Butler is unable to suit up.... See More ... See Less -
Commanders' Percy Butler: Limited practice Wednesday
Butler (wrist) was a limited participant at the Commanders' practice Wednesday. Butler exited Washington's 30-28 loss to the Jets in Week 16 early due to a wrist injury, but his ability to practice in any capacity Wednesday is a positive sign. The safety will look to increase his workload at the team's final two sessions of the week prior to Sunday's matchup with the 49ers.... See More ... See Less -
Commanders' Percy Butler: Suiting up Sunday
Butler (illness) is active ahead of Sunday's game against the Jets. Butler had been dealing with an illness earlier in the week that put him in jeopardy of missing Sunday's affair, but it now seems as if he's feeling well enough to suit up. The second-year pro has tallied 58 total tackles and eight pass deflections through 14 games, and he's expected to start alongside Kamren Curl in the Commanders' secondary in Week 16.... See More ... Commanders' Percy Butler: Uncertain for Week 16
Butler (illness) is considered questionable to play in Sunday's contest against the Jets, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports. Butler appears to be feeling under the weather, leaving his status for Week 16 up in the air. If he can't play, Terrell Burgess would likely replace him at starting free safety versus New York.... Commanders' Percy Butler: Returns to game
Butler has returned to Sunday's Week 11 contest versus the Giants after previously departing with a back injury, John Keim of ESPN.com reports. Butler departed in the first quarter with a back issue and was examined by Washington's medical staff. The injury doesn't appear to be serious, as the safety has since made his return. Butler is a key part of the Commanders' secondary, playing on every one of the team's defensive snaps over the past five weeks coming into Sunday.... See More ... See Less -
Commanders' Percy Butler: Will play Sunday
Butler (calf) is active Sunday against the Patriots. Butler stepped into a starting role for Washington after Darrick Forrest landed on IR with a shoulder injury, and he's played 100 percent of the team's defensive snaps each of the last three weeks. He should continue that role Week 9 against New England.... See More ... See Less -
Commanders' Percy Butler: Questionable against Patriots
Butler (calf) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Patriots. If Butler's unable to play, Terrell Burgess could fill in as the starting free safety. Butler had a career-high seven tackles in Washington's previous game against the Eagles.... See More ... See Less -
Commanders' Percy Butler: Out again Week 6
Butler (quadriceps) was ruled out for Thursday's game against the Bears, Zach Selby of the Commanders' official site reports. Percy suffered a quad injury during Washington's Week 4 loss to the Cowboys, and he was sidelined during Sunday's loss to the Titans as well. The fourth-round rookie served a significant special-teams role over the first three weeks of the season, though he played just 16 defensive snaps over this span.
