Player Outlook
Austin Riley and Ohtani are the only two players in baseball with at least 30 homers, 90 runs, and 90 RBIs in each of the past three seasons. Whereas Ohtani has had to do a lot of the heavy lifting on his club in previous seasons, Riley is just one very well-positioned player in the lineup with Acuna Jr and Albies in front of him and Olson behind him in the lineup. The presence of speed in front of him allows him to see a lot of fastballs, and he hit 22 of them for homers along with a .290 average. Getting on base in front of Olson and Ozuna is how someone with slightly better than average speed scored 117 runs, exceeding his previous career high by 26 runs. We see no reason why Riley cannot keep his 30/90/90 streak going another season as nothing is changing in the powerful Atlanta offense in 2024. Riley is not going to help you in the running game, but that is the only true flaw in his fantasy vitae as he heads into his peak power production years at the hot corner.

  • Braves' Austin Riley: Sitting in third straight game

Riley (side) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. He'll miss out on a third straight start while he manages left side inflammation, but with the benefit of some added rest in the form of a team off day Thursday, Riley could be healthy enough to rejoin the starting nine for Friday's series opener versus the Padres. Zack Short will make another start at third base in Riley's place Wednesday.

  • Braves' Austin Riley: Remains out Tuesday

Riley (side) remains out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Cubs. Atlanta received good news when an MRI revealed merely inflammation in Riley's left side rather than a strain. However, he is likely still sore and will miss a second straight start. With a scheduled off day coming Thursday, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Atlanta hold Riley out until Friday just to be safe. Zack Short is getting another start at third base Tuesday.

  • Braves' Austin Riley: MRI shows inflammation

An MRI revealed that Riley has inflammation in his left side, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. The results of Riley's MRI indicate that he'll be able to avoid a trip to the 10-day injured list, though the club will exercise caution to ensure he doesn't make the injury worse. "They'll treat him up tomorrow and see where he's at," said manager Brian Snitker. "The MRI just showing inflammation is a good thing, now it's going to be maintenance and a day-to-day thing."

  • Braves' Austin Riley: Undergoing MRI on side

Riley is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cubs and is slated to undergo an MRI on his injured left side, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. Riley was lifted in the bottom of the fourth inning of Sunday's 4-3 loss to the Mets after experiencing left side tightness, which reportedly first surfaced during batting practice earlier that day. While Atlanta remains hopeful that Riley isn't dealing with a long-term injury, more will be known once the MRI results are in later Monday. Zack Short will pick up a start at the hot corner Monday while Riley exits the starting nine for the first time all season.

  • Braves' Austin Riley: Hoping injury is minor

Riley (side) isn't overly concerned with his long-term availability after being removed early from Sunday's game, and he considers himself day-to-day, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Riley experienced left side tightness in batting practice Sunday and was ultimately removed from Atlanta's contest against the Mets in the fourth inning after going 1-for-2 at the plate. The third baseman doesn't know yet if he'll be sent for an MRI. With the team launching a three-game home series against the Cubs on Monday, there's a chance that Riley misses some, if not all, of the series as Atlanta will likely be cautious with the talented 26-year-old.

  • Braves' Austin Riley: Exits early versus Mets

Riley was removed from Sunday's contest against the Mets in bottom of the fourth inning with left side tightness, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Riley's removal from the contest has been described as precautionary according to Atlanta. The third baseman finished his night going 1-for-2 with a single and a strikeout. Riley's status will likely be updated following the conclusion of the team's series finale with New York.

  • Braves' Austin Riley: On base three times Wednesday

Riley went 2-for-4 with a walk, a triple, a run scored and two RBI in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Mariners. That's now five hits in the last four games for Riley, while Wednesday's three-bagger was his first extra-base hit since April 17. The third baseman is slashing a disappointing .235/.311/.387 through 29 contests with two homers and 16 RBI, but he still sports an 89th percentile barrel rate and 85th percentile hard-hit rate on the season, and there's little cause for worry about his slow first month.

  • Braves' Austin Riley: Could be emerging from slump

Riley posted an exit velocity over 100 mph on three different balls Saturday but failed to get a hit on any of them, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. The third baseman did collect two hits Sunday, including a walk-off single in the 10th inning, but for the most part Riley hasn't been getting results of late -- he hasn't homered in 18 straight games, slashing .222/.317/.319 over that stretch with five doubles, a triple and six RBI. Given the way he's swinging the bat, however, it seems only a matter of time before the 27-year-old heats up. Advanced metrics back up the idea that Riley's lack of production is mainly due to bad luck -- he sits in the 90th percentile in barrel rate on the season, right in line with his 2023 (89th percentile) and 2022 (96th percentile) campaigns.

  • Braves' Austin Riley: Salvages day with late homer

Riley went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run during Sunday's win over the Diamondbacks. After striking out in two of his first three at-bats, RIley came through for Atlanta with a two-run shot to give the team three runs of cushion heading into the ninth. He hasn't exactly been lighting up the box score in 2024, but Riley has consistently been one of baseball's best bats at the third-base position and should once again push for 30-plus homers.

  • Braves' Austin Riley: Smacks first homer

Riley went 2-for-4 with a home run, a walk, four RBI and two runs scored during Monday's 9-0 victory over the White Sox. Riley entered Monday's contest with just one RBI over his first three games but drove in Ozzie Albies with an RBI single in the sixth, then hit a three-run shot to put the icing on the cake for Atlanta in the eighth inning. Riley has topped 30 home runs in each of the last three seasons and has now officially begun his quest for four straight with Monday's initial long ball of the 2024 campaign.

  • Braves' Austin Riley: On track for Opening Day

Riley has gone 5-for-20 (.250) over eight Grapefruit League games with a solo home run and a 0:3 BB:K. The 26-year-old third baseman has been getting in his work and looks set to once again hit in the heart of Atlanta's batting order. Riley has averaged 36 homers and 99 RBI over the last three seasons while missing only eight total games, making him one of the most dependable fantasy options available at the hot corner.

  • Braves' Austin Riley: Tallies three hits in win

Riley went 3-for-4 with a triple, a double and two runs scored in Thursday's 5-3 win over the Cubs. Riley has logged four multi-hit efforts over his last eight games, going 12-for-30 (.400) in that span. The third baseman is up to a .282/.346/.519 slash line with 37 home runs, 96 RBI, 116 runs scored, 30 doubles, three triples and three stolen bases through 156 games this season. He continues to hit in the heart of the order in a near-everyday role.

  • Braves' Austin Riley: Sitting for Game 1

Riley is out of the lineup for Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader at Washington, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. The 26-year-old started the past 14 games after sitting out a couple contests due to an illness in early September, and he'll take a seat for Sunday's matinee after he posted a 1.017 OPS with three homers, 11 RBI and 10 runs during that 14-game stretch. Luke Williams will handle the hot corner in Game 1 with Riley likely to be back in the starting nine for the nightcap.

  • Braves' Austin Riley: Racks up four RBI

Riley went 2-for-3 with a home run, four RBI and two runs scored in Friday's win over the Nationals. Riley blasted a 434-foot, two-run moonshot off Patrick Corbin in the first inning. That wasn't his only production of the night though, as the Atlanta third baseman added two sacrifice flies later in the game. Riley sports a .281/.343/.516 slash line with 37 homers, three steals, 110 runs and 96 RBI this season. The home run total is one off his career high of 38, set last season.

  • Braves' Austin Riley: Out again with illness

Riley (illness) remains out of the lineup Friday versus the Pirates. Riley was held out of Thursday's series finale against the Cardinals due to a stomach bug and isn't quite ready to return to the starting nine, though manager Brian Snitker indicated the 26-year-old slugger should be available off the bench, per David O'Brien of The Athletic. Nicky Lopez will get another start at third base and bat ninth for Atlanta in Friday's series opener against Pittsburgh.

  • Braves' Austin Riley: Gets day off Thursday

Riley is not in the lineup Thursday against the Cardinals. This appears to be a scheduled day of rest for Riley, who homered in each of the first two games of Atlanta's three-game set versus St. Louis. Nicky Lopez will cover third base and bat ninth in Thursday's series finale.

  • Braves' Austin Riley: Goes deep in victory

Riley went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Thursday's 8-7 win against the Dodgers. Riley accounted for the final run in a six-run second inning for Atlanta with his solo shot to center field. The long ball was his third over his past six contests to bring his total to 32 on the campaign. Riley finished August with four consecutive multi-hit games and slashed .289/.348/.537 with eight homers, 18 RBI, 23 runs and one steal over 29 contests during the month.

  • Braves' Austin Riley: Belts 31st long ball

Riley went 2-for-5 with a home run, a walk, two total runs and three total RBI in a 14-4 victory versus Colorado on Monday. Riley opened the scoring for Atlanta with his two-run shot to right field in the third inning, and he tacked on an RBI single in the seventh. The long ball was his second over his past three contests following a nine-game stretch during which he went just 6-for-33 without any homers. While Riley has been overshadowed by the MVP-level seasons of teammates Ronald Acuna and Matt Olson, he's performed very well in his own right, reaching the 30-homer mark for the third straight campaign while tallying 81 RBI, three steals and a .274/.336/.504 slash line over 578 plate appearances.

  • Braves' Austin Riley: Reaches 30-homer plateau

Riley went 1-for-3 with two walks, a solo home run and a second run scored in Saturday's 7-3 win over the Giants. The third baseman turned on a first-pitch fastball from Sean Manaea in the fifth inning and crushed it to left field, snapping a brief nine-game homer drought. The streaky Riley is slashing .278/.345/.515 in August with six long balls and 14 RBI, and he's now reached 30 home runs for the third straight season. His career high is 38, set last year, and with 34 games left on Atlanta's schedule, Riley will likely need at least one more heater to get there.

  • Braves' Austin Riley: Rare steal Sunday

Riley went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Sunday's loss to the Giants. After rapping a two-out single in the first inning, Riley got himself into scoring position with his third steal of the season -- a new career high -- and first since late June. The third baseman is slashing .304/.360/.557 through 19 games in August with five home runs, 13 RBI and 14 runs, and he sits one long ball short of his third straight 30-homer campaign.
