Haniger is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees. Haniger will hit the bench for the second time in the series, and he could find himself in more of a part-time role or short-side platoon role moving forward after the Mariners recently welcomed Dominic Canzone back from the injured list. With Canzone and the hot-hitting Luke Raley having made cases for regular roles in the corner outfield, Mitch Garver could represent Haniger's primary competition for playing time at designated hitter. Haniger has turned in an underwhelming .587 OPS in May and is slashing .217/.280/.361 overall on the season.... See More ... See Less

Mariners' Mitch Haniger: Taking seat Tuesday
Haniger is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Yankees. The 33-year-old won't start for the second time in the last four games, leaving Dominic Canzone in right field Tuesday. Haniger has generated a hit in each of his last five starts.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Mitch Haniger: Breather Saturday
Haniger is not in the starting lineup Saturday versus the Orioles. Haniger will get a breather after starting the team's last 11 contests, batting .237 with two home runs and three RBI over that stretch. Dominic Canzone will take over in right field and bat seventh against Baltimore.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Mitch Haniger: Perfect at plate in loss
Haniger went 3-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Royals. Haniger took Kansas City closer James McArthur deep in the ninth inning, but it didn't turn into a rally for the Mariners. The homer was Haniger's second in May and sixth of the year, but he's hitting a poor .182 (8-for-44) this month. He started the season well, and he's now slashing .214/.277/.372 with 21 RBI, 17 runs scored and five doubles through 40 contests. Haniger continues to fill a near everyday role between right field and designated hitter.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Mitch Haniger: Hits homer, sac fly
Haniger went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and an RBI sacrifice fly during Tuesday's 10-6 win over Minnesota. Haniger got the Mariners on the board in the second inning, tagging Bailey Ober for a long ball to lead off the frame. The homer could be what Haniger needs to break the slump he's currently in, as he's gone 7-for-56 (.125) with a 35.6 percent strikeout rate since April 20.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Mitch Haniger: Not in Sunday's lineup
Haniger is out of the lineup for Sunday's game at Houston. Haniger started the previous five games but will hit the bench Sunday after he went 2-for-20 during that stretch. Josh Rojas will receive a start in the outfield while Luis Urias starts at third base.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Mitch Haniger: Out of Sunday's lineup
Haniger is not in the lineup for Sunday's game versus the Diamondbacks. Haniger started the past five games but will receive a day off after he went 2-for-18 with a double, a homer and five RBI during that span. Luke Raley will start in right field Sunday for Seattle.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Mitch Haniger: Knocks grand slam
Haniger went 1-for-4 with a grand slam in Friday's win over Arizona. Haniger's blast in the sixth inning gave the Mariners enough cushion to pull away with a victory. It was his fourth homer of the season and first since April 15, snapping a seven-game drought. The veteran outfielder is 3-for-25 (.120) with 11 strikeouts and no walks over his last six contests. On the year, Haniger is slashing .244/.306/.422 through 98 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Mitch Haniger: Breather in Game 2
Haniger will sit Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader with the Rockies. Haniger will take a seat after he went 1-for-5 with four strikeouts in the team's 2-1 extra-inning Game 1 loss Sunday. Luke Raley will draw the start in right field and bat seventh in the series finale.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Mitch Haniger: Enjoys big game at dish
Haniger went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, a walk, three total RBI and two total runs Monday in a 9-3 win over the Reds. Haniger batted cleanup as the Mariners' DH and drilled a two-run homer in the third inning along with a run-scoring double in the seventh. The slugger extended his hitting streak to six games, though this was his first multi-hit effort during that stretch. Haniger appears to be fully healthy this year following two straight injury-plagued campaigns, and he's had good results at the plate thus far, slashing .286/.375/.500 with three homers, 11 RBI and nine runs through 64 plate appearances.... Mariners' Mitch Haniger: Slugs second homer Tuesday
Haniger went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk in a loss to the Blue Jays on Tuesday. Haniger was one of the few bright spots in another disappointing night for the Mariners, getting Seattle to within two runs in the eighth inning with a 359-shot to left field with Julio Rodriguez aboard. Haniger's round tripper was his first since Opening Day, and it also marked his first extra-base hit in the last five games.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Mitch Haniger: Gets first day off of 2024
Haniger is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers. Haniger will take a seat for the first time this season after he had started in each of the Mariners' first nine games while hitting .290 with one home run, four RBI and four runs. According to Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times, the oft-injured Haniger is fully healthy at the moment and will be available to pinch hit Sunday, so his absence from the lineup is strictly for maintenance purposes. The Mariners hope to have him available to start in all three games of their series in Toronto to begin the upcoming week.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Mitch Haniger: Clubs long ball on Opening Day
Haniger went 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk, two total runs and two total RBI in Thursday's loss to the Red Sox. Haniger drilled a two-run homer to right field in the fourth inning for Seattle's first runs of the campaign. It was a promising start to the season for the 33-year-old, who is coming off a pair of injury-plagued campaigns. The last time Haniger made it through a full season mostly healthy was 2021, when he slugged 39 homers and notched 100 RBI over 157 games. That makes him a somewhat alluring option in fantasy, though the health concerns present significant risk.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Mitch Haniger: Pops third spring homer
Haniger went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in a Cactus League win over the Brewers on Thursday. Haniger's solo homer in the first inning was his third of spring and pushed his Cactus League average and OPS to .450 and 1.450, respectively, across 22 plate appearances. The veteran outfielder, who's enjoying a clean bill of health after an injury-hampered 2023 season with the Giants, has also professed several times this spring that he feels extremely comfortable being back in Seattle after a year away.... Mariners' Mitch Haniger: Homers in first spring at-bat
Haniger started at designated hitter and went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in the Mariners' Cactus League loss to the Guardians on Sunday. Haniger sent a Tyler Beede offering into the bullpen in the first inning, his first official at-bat since returning to the Mariners this winter after a one-year sabbatical in San Francisco. Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports Haniger's shot had 108 mph of exit velocity and a distance of 384 feet, certainly encouraging for a veteran that was riddled with injuries in 2023. The outfielder has already expressed his satisfaction with being back in Seattle, and he's been working extensively with a familiar face in director of hitting strategy Jarret DeHart, who was on staff during Haniger's initial Mariners tenure, and a new hire in offensive coordinator Brant Brown.... Mariners' Mitch Haniger: Ready for spring action
Haniger (back) is batting second as the designated hitter for Sunday's spring game against the Guardians. The veteran outfielder finished 2023 on the injured list with a back strain, but he's good to go early in spring training. Haniger had a career-worst .631 OPS in just 61 games with the Giants last season as he also dealt with oblique and forearm issues, but the Mariners are hoping for better injury luck in 2024 after acquiring him for Robbie Ray (elbow).... Mariners' Mitch Haniger: Dealt to Seattle
The Giants traded Haniger (back), Anthony DeSclafani (elbow) and cash to the Mariners on Friday in exchange for Robbie Ray (elbow), Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. Haniger is coming off a 2023 campaign in which he slashed .209/.266/.365 -- easily his worst season at the plate -- and missed most of the year due to oblique, forearm and back injuries. However, Haniger maintained an .817 OPS during five years with the Mariners prior to joining the Giants, and the familiar scenery could spark a return to form for the 33-year-old. Haniger will make $20 million this season and holds a $15.5 million player option for 2025.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Mitch Haniger: Shut down with back strain
The Giants placed Haniger on the 10-day injured list Friday with a lower back strain, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. It's an early shutdown for Haniger, who appeared in only 61 games this season while slashing .209/.266/.365 with six home runs and 28 RBI across 229 plate appearances. The 32-year-old outfielder is owed $20 million in 2024 and carries a $15.5 million player option for 2025.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Mitch Haniger: Taking seat Wednesday
Haniger is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Diamondbacks, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Haniger had started each of the last three contests and eight of the last nine, but he will begin this one on the bench. Luis Matos is getting the call in left field for the Giants.... See More ... Giants' Mitch Haniger: Three RBI in win
Haniger went 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI in Sunday's 11-10 win over the Rockies. Haniger plated a run in the fifth with his first double of the game and then two more in the sixth with another two-bagger. It was just his second multi-hit game since returning from the injured list Aug. 29, and he doubled his RBI total since his return with Sunday's performance. In his 16 games back, Haniger is slashing just .163/.241/.408 and has a 31.5 percent strikeout rate.... See More ... See Less
