Corbin pitched six innings Sunday against Seattle, yielding three earned runs on four hits and two walks. He struck out four and did not factor into the decision. Corbin managed to log his second quality start of the season Sunday, rebounding from his previous outing where he allowed eight earned runs. Even in tonight's quality start, Corbin allowed two home runs and has now allowed five home runs in his last two starts. Corbin (1-5) has been wildly inconsistent all season, posting a 6.12 ERA and 1.69 WHIP across 60.1 innings. His next start is tentatively scheduled for next weekend in Cleveland.... See More ... Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Start moved up
Corbin is listed as the Nationals' probable pitcher for Sunday's game against the Mariners, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports. Corbin's next start will come five days after he allowed eight runs against the Twins on Tuesday, pushing Mitchell Parker to Monday in order to give the young southpaw an extra day of rest. Corbin has been erratic this season, yielding five or more runs four times but surrendering fewer than three runs on three occasions. He owns a 6.29 ERA overall.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Mauled by Minnesota
Corbin (1-5) took the loss Tuesday as the Nationals were routed 10-0 by the Twins, surrendering eight runs on nine hits -- including three home runs -- and three walks over six innings. He struck out three. Minnesota hung two runs on the veteran southpaw in four separate innings, and Corbin was taken deep twice by Byron Buxton and once by Jose Miranda while also serving up extra-base hits to Carlos Santana and Carlos Correa. It's the first time since March 30 that Corbin has been tagged for multiple homers, but he wasn't having much success when keeping the ball in the park, either. He'll carry a 6.29 ERA, 1.77 WHIP and 32:21 K:BB through 54.1 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come early next week in Atlanta.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Gets little help in loss
Corbin (1-4) took the loss Wednesday, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks over 5.2 innings as the Nationals were downed 2-0 by the White Sox. He failed to strike out a batter. The veteran southpaw wasn't fooling anyone as he managed only five swinging strikes on 82 pitches, but Corbin was able to minimize the damage against him, coming one out short of his second quality start of the season. He'll take a 5.59 ERA, 1.74 WHIP and 29:18 K:BB through 48.1 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Twins.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Finally gets in win column
Corbin (1-3) picked up the win Friday, allowing one run on seven hits and a walk over five innings in a 5-1 victory over the Red Sox. He struck out four. The veteran southpaw tossed 54 of 86 pitches before exiting with a 3-1 lead, and the Washington bullpen was able to shut down Boston the rest of the way. Corbin has begun to show faint signs of turning things around, and over his last four starts he has posted a 3.54 ERA while serving up only one homer in 20.1 innings. His 14:8 K:BB and 1.57 WHIP over that stretch aren't particularly encouraging, however. He'll try to build on this performance in his next outing, which lines up to come on the road next week against the White Sox.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Provides first quality start Friday
Corbin came away with a no-decision in Friday's 9-3 win over the Blue Jays, giving up three runs on six hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out three. Toronto jumped on Corbin for a three-spot in the second inning, but the veteran lefty settled down after that and kept his team in the game, and the offense responded by rallying for eight runs in the seventh and eighth. The quality start was Corbin's first of the season, and it was just the second time in seven outings that he allowed fewer than four runs. The 34-year-old's contract -- $35 million for 2024 in the final year of his deal -- has kept him in the Nats' rotation, but his 6.45 ERA, 1.81 WHIP and 25:15 K:BB through 37.2 innings don't belong on a fantasy roster. He lines up to make his next start on the road next weekend in Boston.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Lit up during no-decision
Corbin did not factor into the decision during Sunday's win over the Marlins, allowing seven runs (four earned) on eight hits and two walks over four innings. He struck out four. Corbin labored through 93 pitches in just four innings, digging his own grave by starting just eight of 22 batters with a first-pitch strike. The veteran southpaw shut down a potent Dodgers lineup during his last start but couldn't carry the momentum into this matchup with the Marlins, allowing all seven runs during the first two innings. Following the rough start, Corbin did face the minimum through his final two innings, providing a bit of a silver lining over the bad start and allowing the Nationals an opportunity to come all the way back and secure the victory. Corbin's next start is tentatively scheduled to take place during a home set next weekend against the Blue Jays.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Blanks Dodgers in no-decision
Corbin came away with a no-decision in Tuesday's 4-1 loss to the Dodgers, allowing three hits and three walks over 5.1 scoreless innings. He struck out three. The 34-year-old lefty put together his best performance of the young season, tossing 50 of 86 pitches for strikes and exiting with a 1-0 lead. Unfortunately, the Nationals' bullpen quickly coughed it up. Corbin remains winless in 2024 with an 0-3 record, and his 6.51 ERA, 1.81 WHIP and 18:11 K:BB through 27.2 innings don't offer much fantasy appeal even as a streaming option. He'll try to keep building momentum in his next start, which lines up to come this weekend in Miami.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Surrenders five runs in loss
Corbin (0-3) took the loss Tuesday against the Dodgers, allowing five runs on nine hits and four walks while striking out five over 6.1 innings. Corbin just continues to eat up innings for the Nationals. He's now allowed at least four runs in each of his last six starts dating back to last season. The Dodgers got to him for three runs in the first two innings before Enrique Hernandez took him deep in the fifth. Corbin managed to get into the seventh but was pulled with one out and runners on the corners and the Dodgers would tack on another run before the inning concluded. The 34-year-old owns an 8.06 ERA, 1.97 WHIP and 15:8 K:BB in 22.1 innings. He's allowed 36 hits over four starts thus far and is set for a rematch with the Dodgers next week.... See More ... Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Hit hard in Wednesday's loss
Corbin (0-2) took the loss Wednesday as the Nationals were downed 7-1 by the Giants, surrendering seven runs on 11 hits over 5.2 innings. He struck out two without walking a batter. The veteran lefty was able to keep the ball in the park, but San Francisco was able to string together multiple hits and score multiple runs in three separate innings against Corbin, chasing him from the game after 85 pitches (58 strikes). After posting an ERA above 5.00 in each of the last three seasons, Corbin seems headed for another awful campaign, stumbling to an 8.44 ERA, 1.94 WHIP and 10:4 K:BB through three starts and 16 innings. There's little reason for optimism that he'll turn things around in his next start, likely to come on the road early next week against the Dodgers.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Surrenders four runs in loss
Corbin (0-1) took the loss Friday, allowing four runs on nine hits and three walks over six innings against Philadelphia. He struck out six. Corbin's rough start to the season continued Friday after he allowed four runs over 4.1 innings in his first start, leaving him with a 6.97 ERA. The 34-year-old lefty has been unable to keep opponents off the basepaths as his WHIP stands at 1.94 over his first 10.1 innings. Corbin is scheduled to pitch on the road against the Giants in his next start.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Serves up two homers Saturday
Corbin allowed four runs on seven hits -- including two home runs -- over 4.1 innings in a no-decision against the Reds on Saturday. He struck out two and issued one walk. Corbin in Great American Ball Park went about as expected. He allowed a solo home run to Jeimer Candelario in the fourth inning and a two-run shot to Luke Maile in the fifth, after posting the fifth-worst HR/9 among qualified starters last season. Now 34 and in the final year of his contract, Corbin should be a hard pass for any fantasy manager that cares about preserving their ratios.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Fans six in bumpy start
Corbin gave up three runs on six hits and two walks over 3.2 innings in Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Cardinals. He struck out six. The Ks were a good sign for Corbin despite the final line, as was the fact that Monday's free passes were his first of the spring. His 16:2 K:BB in 12.1 innings does come with a 5.11 ERA, but the former metric is generally a better sign of how a pitcher is performing in camp. Corbin got stretched out to 74 pitches (45 strikes) and appears just about ready for Opening Day, but given that he hasn't posted an ERA below 5.20 over a full season since 2019, the 34-year-old southpaw is little more than an endgame dart even in deep fantasy formats.... Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Deploys cutter in Thursday's start
Corbin gave up three hits over three scoreless innings while striking out four in Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Cardinals. Facing most of the Cards' Opening Day lineup, Corbin breezed through 41 pitches (32 strikes) and looked much sharper than he had in his first outing of the spring. The veteran southpaw also mixed in a new cutter, per Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports, throwing seven of them and getting swings and misses on three -- including strike three to Nolan Arenado in the first inning. Corbin's been primarily a fastball-slider pitcher throughout his career, so adding a reliable third pitch could boost a strikeout rate that sagged to 15.7 percent in 2023 -- the second-worst mark in MLB among pitchers who threw at least 150 innings, ahead of only Kyle Freeland's 13.9 percent. Even if the cutter does prove to be an effective weapon for Corbin, however, there's still little fantasy appeal in a pitcher who's posted a combined 5.75 ERA and 1.54 WHIP over the last three seasons.... Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Second start coming Thursday
Corbin is scheduled to make his second Grapefruit League start Thursday versus the Cardinals, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. Corbin struck out four of the nine batters he faced Saturday in the Nationals' spring opener against the Astros, but he was touched up for two earned runs on three hits (two singles, one triple) and also conceded a stolen base. At this stage of Corbin's career, spring training is more about building innings than turning in quality results, but even if the 34-year-old lefty is lights out in his subsequent Grapefruit League outings, fantasy players should have some degree of skepticism about him carrying over any success into the regular season. Over each of his last three campaigns in Washington, Corbin has taken at least 31 starts in every season, but he hasn't turned in an ERA better than 5.20 or a WHIP lower than 1.47 and has seen his strikeout percentage decline in each successive year.... Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Struggles continue in loss
Corbin (10-15) took the loss Wednesday, allowing four runs on six hits and four walks over 4.2 innings against the Orioles while striking out two. Corbin was victimized by a two-run shot off the bat of Adley Rutschman in the bottom of the third, after the lefty walked Austin Hays to open the frame. The 34-year-old veteran's troubles would continue in the fifth inning, where he was once again charged with two runs, marking his second consecutive start with at least four runs allowed. Corbin has failed to make it through five innings in each of his last two outings and in three of his last five. He's also given up six home runs this month and has now lost four of his last five starts.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Strikes out eight, earns 10th win
Corbin (10-13) earned the win Monday, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk over 6.2 innings against the Pirates. He struck out eight. After allowing 14 runs in his previous two starts, Corbin bounced back with a quality start in earning his 10th win. He was staked to a 6-1 lead and recorded two outs in the seventh but was bounced after a Ji Hwan Bae double plated a second run for the Pirates. The 6.2 innings represented Corbin's longest outing since July 9 and the eight strikeouts were his second highest total of the season. Corbin will look to follow up on this strong performance in his next start, scheduled to occur this weekend in Milwaukee.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Mauled by Mets
Corbin (9-13) took the loss Tuesday as the Nationals were downed 11-5 by the Mets, coughing up eight runs on seven hits -- including three home runs -- and a walk over four innings. He struck out two. A four-run first inning punctuated by a three-run homer off Francisco Alvarez's bat set the tone for Corbin's night. The veteran lefty got the hook after 83 pitches (53 strikes) and he's served up multiple long balls in four of his last seven starts, stumbling to a 5.92 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 26:13 K:BB through 38 innings over that stretch. With the Nationals playing out the string, Corbin will remain in the rotation, but he's got little fantasy appeal heading into his next outing, likely to come early next week in Pittsburgh.... Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Tagged for six runs in loss
Corbin (9-12) took the loss Wednesday, allowing six runs on 10 hits and a walk over five innings in a 7-0 loss against the Blue Jays. He struck out five. Corbin had been pitching well coming into Wednesday's start, posting a 2.12 ERA over his previous three outings. The Blue Jays got to him early, scoring twice in the first inning, eventually handing Corbin his first loss since July 24. Overall, the left-hander now sports a 4.90 ERA with a 1.50 WHIP and 109:48 K:BB across 27 starts (154.1 innings) this season. Corbin will look to get back on track in his next start, currently scheduled for next week at home against the Mets.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Grabs ninth win
Corbin (9-11) earned the win Thursday, allowing three runs on seven hits and three walks over six innings against the Yankees. He struck out seven. Corbin struggled with his command early on, surrendering a solo home run to Aaron Judge on a hanging four-seamer in the first inning and then allowing a two-run shot to Gleyber Torres in the third. However, the lefty was able to recover after that, making it through six frames for the third time in his last four starts while fanning seven -- his second-highest strikeout total of the season. Corbin has now won his last three decisions and currently holds a 2.70 ERA through four August starts.... See More ... See Less
