Duran went 1-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base and three runs scored in Sunday's 6-4 extra-inning win over the White Sox. Duran, who had gone 14 days without a steal prior to this weekend, posted a third straight game with at least one stolen base, including two Saturday. The outfielder has put himself in position to make an impact lately, going 11-for-33 with six walks (.425 OBP), four steals and 10 runs scored over the last eight contests.... See More ... See Less

Red Sox's Jarren Duran: Pilfers two bags in loss
Duran went 0-for-3 with two walks and two stolen bases in Saturday's 6-1 loss to the White Sox. The 27-year-old did his job as the leadoff man, but the hitters in the three spots behind him in the order went a combined 0-for-11 on the afternoon. Duran came into this series in Chicago having failed to steal a bag in 14 straight games, but he's swiped three in the last two contests to give him 14 on the season. He's also slashing .263/.331/.451 on the year with five homers, 27 RBI and 39 runs in 65 contests.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Jarren Duran: Steals bag, scores in loss
Duran went 0-for-5 with a stolen base and a run scored in Friday's 7-2 loss to the White Sox. Duran stole home, his first steal in 15 games, and leads Boston with 12 thefts. He also leads the team with 39 runs. The outfielder has been hot to start the month of June, going 10-for-26 (.385) with one double, one triple, two home runs, four RBI and seven runs scored over the last six games.... See More ... Red Sox's Jarren Duran: Sets tone in Thursday's win
Duran went 4-for-5 with a solo home run, an additional RBI, one walk and two total runs scored in Thursday's 14-2 win over the White Sox. Duran has multiple hits in four of his last five games, and he's gone yard in back-to-back contests. His homer Thursday came on Jake Woodford's second pitch of the game in the first inning, setting the tone for the Red Sox in their blowout win. Duran is up to five homers on the year, and he's added 27 RBI, 38 runs scored, 11 stolen bases and a .271/.336/.465 slash line over 286 plate appearances. While he continues to split time between left field and center field, there's no questioning Duran's place in the lineup this season.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Jarren Duran: Triple, home run in win
Duran went 2-for-5 with a solo home run, a triple and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 9-0 win over Atlanta. Duran legged out his league-leading ninth triple in the fifth inning before putting the final touch on Boston's convincing victory with a solo homer off Jimmy Herget in the eighth, extending the lead to 9-0. Duran now has three multi-hit efforts in his last four contests after going just 2-for-28 in his previous seven games. Overall, the 27-year-old outfielder is slashing .261/.326/.447 with four homers, 36 runs scored, 25 RBI and 11 stolen bases across 62 games this year.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Jarren Duran: Steals home, goes yard
Duran went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a steal of home plate during Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Rays. The Red Sox executed a first-and-third double steal perfectly in the eighth inning, as the throw to second to catch Rafael Devers stealing was cut off early and the subsequent throw to home wasn't in time to tag the speedy Duran. Duran has hit safely in seven straight games, batting 10-for-27 (.370) with a pair of triples, solo home runs and stolen bases during that stretch.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Jarren Duran: Running less
Duran has attempted five steals over the last 35 games, after he opened the season with six steals in the first six games. There are a few factors that explain the drop in attempts, per Alex Speier of The Boston Globe. Opposing teams became aware of Duran's potential impact, and the Red Sox have been more judicious after running into several outs early in the season. Additionally, manager Alex Cora asked Duran to run less given that he plays every day.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Jarren Duran: Triple, stolen base vs. Guardians
Duran went 1-for-4 with a two-run triple, two runs scored and a stolen base in Thursday's 5-4 loss to Cleveland. Duran drew a walk to lead off the home half of the first inning before swiping his seventh bag of the year. The speedy outfielder would then drive in a pair of runs with a triple in the sixth inning, his first three-bagger this season. Duran is now 5-for-17 with three extra-base hits in his last four contests. He's off to a nice start following a promising 2023 campaign, slashing .301/.366/.422 with a home run, 12 runs scored and nine RBI through his first 20 games.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Jarren Duran: Four hits in win
Duran went 4-for-4 in Wednesday's 1-0 win over the Athletics. Duran's posted three consecutive multi-hit games following a 2-for-16 start to the season. It's a hopeful sign for the outfielder, who earlier in his career let the pressure of slumps and mistakes get the better of him. That began to change in 2023 when he posted an .886 OPS over the first half of the season before an August injury ended his season. A mentally sound Duran could be a difference maker atop Boston's lineup. While his .500 BABIP is unsustainable, the outfielder is 11-for-28 (.393) with six steals through seven games.... See More ... Red Sox's Jarren Duran: Collects three hits, three pilfers
Duran went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, a run batted in and three stolen bases during Monday's game against the Athletics. Duran ran wild Monday, pushing himself to a league-leading five steals on the season. He swiped second base after each of his three singles but also advanced to third via error on two of those occasions. The multi-hit outing was much-needed for the speedster after opening the season 2-for-16 (.125)... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Jarren Duran: Swipes bag in loss
Duran started in left field and went 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Friday's 1-0 loss to Seattle. Duran, who led Boston with 24 steals in 2023, stole his second bag in as many games. He brings an element of speed to the top of the order; the speedy Duran's batted leadoff in the first two games of the season. With Ceddanne Rafaela making the team as Boston's primary center fielder, Duran has been moved to left field.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Jarren Duran: Starts in right field
Duran started in right field and went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, four RBI and an additional run scored in Friday's spring game against the Twins. Duran has made starts in left field (two), center field (five) and now right field. Tyler O'Neill was originally scheduled to start in right but was scratched with left calf tightness. Duran could move around the outfield a lot this year if Ceddanne Rafaela, who started in center field Friday, earns a roster spot.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Jarren Duran: Back in action
Duran (ankle) will start in center field and lead off in Thursday's Grapefruit League game against Atlanta. As expected, Duran will return after a brief injury scare. He was seen flexing his left foot Tuesday -- the same foot he had surgery on last August -- but it seems he's already put the issue behind him. If healthy, Duran will serve as Boston's primary leadoff man against both righties and lefties.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Jarren Duran: Making spring debut Friday
Duran (toe) is starting in left field and batting leadoff in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Twins, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports. Manager Alex Cora previously said the 27-year-old would serve as the DH in his spring debut, but he'll instead man left field. Duran had a delayed start to spring training while completing his recovery from August toe surgery, but he has plenty of time to ramp up his workload before Opening Day.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Jarren Duran: Will be Boston's leadoff hitter
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Friday that Duran will be the team's leadoff hitter this season, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports. Cora did add that there will be matchups to consider when mulling the leadoff decision, but Duran will be at the top of the order most days against both righties and lefties. The left-handed hitting Duran slashed .296/.349/.491 versus right-handers in 2023 and held his own against lefties with a .289/.327/.422 line, albeit with a 30.6 percent strikeout rate. Duran's 2023 season ended prematurely following surgery in late August to repair the flexor tendon in his left big toe, but he's not under any restrictions this spring. He is competing with Ceddanne Rafaela for the center field job but would presumably slide over to right field if Rafaela plays center.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Jarren Duran: Begins weight-bearing exercises
Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow said Wednesday that Duran (toe) has begun weight-bearing exercises, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports. Duran is more than two months removed from Aug. 30 surgery to repair the flexor tendon in his left big toe and should be fully recovered well before the beginning of spring training in February. The 27-year-old center fielder enjoyed a mini breakout with the Red Sox in 2023, slashing .295/.346/.482 with eight homers and 24 steals across 102 games.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Jarren Duran: Officially lands on IL
Duran was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a left toe sprain, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports. We already knew this move was likely, and now it's official. Adam Duvall should get the bulk of the starts in center field while Duran is sidelined, and prospect Wilyer Abreu, who was recalled in a corresponding move, could also get some work in the short term.... Red Sox's Jarren Duran: IL stint not ruled out
Duran (toe) could still be placed on the injured list, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports. There is reason for optimism regarding Duran's status, as there are no X-rays scheduled on his injured toe and he did not visit a doctor after his early exit from Sunday's game. However, he is not starting Monday, and manager Alex Cora said the team wants to see how Duran feels Tuesday before deciding on his next step.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Jarren Duran: Dealing with toe injury
Duran was removed from Sunday's win over the Yankees with a left toe contusion, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports. Duran went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base before being lifted from Sunday's contest with the injury. It doesn't appear to be a serious issue, so the 26-year-old should be considered day-to-day until more information is available.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Jarren Duran: Slumping, dropped in order
Duran batted seventh and went 0-for-4 in Friday's 8-3 win over the Yankees. Duran has hit the skids of late, going 3-for-32 (.094) over the last 12 games. The slump appears to have cost him the leadoff role against right-handers, as Alex Verdugo led off for the third consecutive game against a righty starter. Red Sox manager Alex Cora told Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com that he's spoken with Duran, who recently posted two Instagram stories that seemed to reference recurring struggles. One of those stories was captioned "falling back into that place I fought so hard to get out of." Duran had looked like a different hitter in 2023 and rebounded every time he hit a slump, and he'll have to fight out of one once again.... See More ... See Less
