Suwinski isn't in the Pirates' lineup Saturday against Minnesota. Suwinski has gone 3-for-13 with a homer and two RBI since returning to the majors Tuesday, and he'll now get a chance to rest versus Simeon Woods Richardson and the Twins. Michael Taylor will fill the void in center field and bat ninth.... See More ... See Less

Pirates' Jack Suwinski: Homers in return to majors
Suwinski went 1-for-3 with a solo home run Tuesday against the Dodgers. Suwinski was recalled to the majors Tuesday after Ji Hwan Bae (wrist) was placed on the injured list and Michael Taylor on the paternity list. Suwinski immediately returned to the lineup, manning center field while hitting ninth. He accounted for the only run of the contest with a solo home run in the third inning, a positive sign after he managed only four homers across his first 49 games before being demoted to Triple-A Indianapolis on May 22.... Pirates' Jack Suwinski: Bound for Triple-A
The Pirates optioned Suwinski to Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday. The lefty-hitting Suwinski has mostly operated as a strong-side platoon outfielder this season, but even against right-handed pitching, he's struggled to a .144/.256/.261 slash line over 129 plate appearances. The Pirates will send Suwinski to Indianapolis with the hope that he refines his approach and regains some confidence at the plate, but a return to the big leagues likely won't be imminent until he starts producing at Triple-A. In the meantime, Suwinski's absence could reopen more playing time at first base for Rowdy Tellez while Connor Joe takes on more starts out of the corner outfield.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Jack Suwinski: Absent from lineup
Suwinski is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Giants, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. The Giants are using a left-handed pitcher in Erik Miller to open Thursday's contest, so the lefty-hitting Suwinski will begin the game on the bench. Suwinski will be a candidate to enter mid-game if the Giants turn to a right-hander out of the bullpen.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Jack Suwinski: Hitting bench Wednesday
Suwinski is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Giants, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. The lefty-hitting Suwinski will take a seat Wednesday while southpaw Blake Snell toes the rubber for the Giants. Edward Olivares will replace Suwinski in the starting nine, manning right field and batting cleanup.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Jack Suwinski: Getting breather versus LHP
Suwinski isn't in the Pirates' lineup Saturday versus the Cubs. The lefty-hitting Suwinski will retreat to the bench as fellow lefty Shota Imanaga toes the slab for the Cubs on Saturday. As a result, Edward Olivares will pick up a start in right field and bat fourth.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Jack Suwinski: On bench against lefty
Suwinski is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers. Lefty Robert Gasser is on the bump for Milwaukee, so the lefty-hitting Suwinski will retreat to the bench for the series finale. Edward Olivares will fill in for Suwinski in right field and will bat fifth.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Jack Suwinski: Swipes two bags
Suwinski went 1-for-3 with two walks and two stolen bases during Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Cubs. Suwinski entered the contest with one stolen base on the season, but he swiped second base twice during the extra-inning loss. The left-hander has almost exclusively started against right-handed pitching, with 107 of his 129 plate appearances coming against opposite-handed throwers. However, Suwinski is slashing just .129/.234/.304 against righties this season.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Jack Suwinski: Idle against lefty
Suwinski isn't starting Tuesday against the Athletics, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports. Southpaw Alex Wood will toe the slab Tuesday for the A's, forcing Suwinski's left-handed bat out of the lineup. Edward Olivares will start in right field instead and bat fifth.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Jack Suwinski: Yet to get on track
Suwinski went 1-for-4 with a double, a walk, an RBI and a run scored Thursday against the Brewers. Suwinski delivered an RBI double in the fifth inning and came around to score to give the Pirates the lead. It was his second consecutive start with a double, but he had only five hits in 24 at-bats across a seven-game homestand. Suwinski has cut his strikeout rate to 17.2 percent -- down from 32.2 percent in 2023 -- but that has yet to lead to positive results, as he's batting .183 with two home runs across 93 plate appearances.... Pirates' Jack Suwinski: Slugs key homer
Suwinski went 2-for-4 with a walk and a grand slam Sunday against the Phillies. Suwinski belted a game-deciding grand slam in the sixth inning, his second long ball of the season. He's gotten off to a slow start to the new campaign, tallying only two multi-hit games and only one extra-base hit in addition to his long balls. On the other hand, Suwinski has shown some improvement in his skill profile, most notably that he's struck out only 17.2 percent of the time across 58 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Jack Suwinski: Taking seat against southpaw
Suwinski is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest in Philadelphia. The Phillies are sending southpaw Ranger Suarez to the hill, so the left-handed hitting Suwinski will get a breather. Bryan Reynolds and Edward Olivares will occupy the corner outfield spots for the Pirates.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Jack Suwinski: Slugs first homer of 2024
Suwinski went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored Wednesday against the Nationals. Suwinski tagged Nats reliever Robert Garcia for the solo shot in the sixth inning, moving the Pirates to within one run of Washington. While they would end up dropping their first game of the season, Suwinski managed to collect his first multi-hit performance of the campaign. The third-year big-leaguer hasn't done enough to cement himself as an everyday starter for Pittsburgh, but his mix of speed, power and youth makes him an intriguing fantasy option.... See More ... Pirates' Jack Suwinski: On bench again against southpaw
Suwinski is absent from the lineup for Friday's contest against the Marlins, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. The Pirates have faced a lefty in each of the first two games of the season and Suwinski has been on the bench both times. Suwinski did get two plate appearances Thursday after entering as a pinch hitter and will be an option as a replacement again Friday. Edward Olivares is in right field.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Jack Suwinski: Sitting against lefty
Suwinski is out of the lineup for Thursday's season opener against the Marlins. The lefty-hitting Suwinski finds himself on the bench for Opening Day with Miami throwing left-hander Jesus Luzardo. Connor Joe will replace him in the corner outfield.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Jack Suwinski: Hoping to improve against lefties
Suwinski has worked on shortening his swing against left-handed pitching this offseason, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports. Suwinski had a positive overall season in 2023, posting a .793 OPS with a 112 wRC+ and .341 wOBA across 534 plate appearances. However, his OPS tumbled to .608 and he had only eight extra-base hits in 132 plate appearances against lefties. He's made adjustments to try to improve in that regard, though it's unclear if the Pirates will give him consistent run without the platoon advantage, as Bryan Reynolds is capable of shifting to center field while Connor Joe could enter the lineup against southpaws.... Pirates' Jack Suwinski: Getting back on track
Suwinksi went 2-for-4 with an RBI on Thursday against the Phillies. Suwinski has had a poor second half of the season, though he's turned things around within the last few weeks. Since the start of September, he's maintained a .295 batting average (23-for-78) while hitting four home runs, driving in 16 and scoring 12 runs across 24 games. Despite some inconsistencies, Suwinski should be locked into a starting outfield role in Pittsburgh to begin 2024.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Jack Suwinski: Sitting against lefty
Suwinski is not in the lineup Friday against the Reds. Miguel Andujar, Ji Hwan Bae and Henry Davis will start across the outfield as the Pirates take on left-hander Andrew Abbott. Suwinski has slashed just .178/.282/.257 in 117 plate appearances versus southpaws this year.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Jack Suwinski: More consistent contact
Suwinski went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Friday against Atlanta. Suwinski has slumped for nearly the entire second half of the season and had lost playing time as a result. However, with Andrew McCutchen (Achilles) out for the season, Suwinski should take over a strong-side platoon role between designated hitter and the corner outfield. His recent production provides some hope that he can take advantage of the opportunity, as he has three home runs across his last eight games and has limited his strikeout rate to a relatively low 23.1 percent clip in that span.... Pirates' Jack Suwinski: Swats two-run homer
Suwinski went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in a 4-2 win against Milwaukee on Monday. The Pirates were behind by two runs in the fourth inning when Suwinski tied the score with his two-run blast to center field. The long ball was just his second since July 24, a span during which he's slashed a dreadful .141/.286/.263 over 33 contests. Suwinski has struck out at a 35.6 percent clip since the All-Star break, the worst mark among qualified MLB hitters in that span.... See More ... See Less
