Pirates' Jack Suwinski: Bound for Triple-A
The Pirates optioned Suwinski to Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday.
The lefty-hitting Suwinski has mostly operated as a strong-side platoon outfielder this season, but even against right-handed pitching, he's struggled to a .144/.256/.261 slash line over 129 plate appearances. The Pirates will send Suwinski to Indianapolis with the hope that he refines his approach and regains some confidence at the plate, but a return to the big leagues likely won't be imminent until he starts producing at Triple-A. In the meantime, Suwinski's absence could reopen more playing time at first base for Rowdy Tellez while Connor Joe takes on more starts out of the corner outfield.

Suwinski is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Giants, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
The Giants are using a left-handed pitcher in Erik Miller to open Thursday's contest, so the lefty-hitting Suwinski will begin the game on the bench. Suwinski will be a candidate to enter mid-game if the Giants turn to a right-hander out of the bullpen.

The lefty-hitting Suwinski will take a seat Wednesday while southpaw Blake Snell toes the rubber for the Giants. Edward Olivares will replace Suwinski in the starting nine, manning right field and batting cleanup.

Suwinski had gone just 1-for-13 over his last five games, striking out eight times in that span. The outfielder is up to four homers, five steals, 13 RBI, 15 runs scored and a .172/.263/.299 slash line over 152 plate appearances. Suwinski remains firmly in a strong-side platoon role, and that's unlikely to change if he can't find more of a rhythm at the plate.

Suwinski entered the contest with one stolen base on the season, but he swiped second base twice during the extra-inning loss. The left-hander has almost exclusively started against right-handed pitching, with 107 of his 129 plate appearances coming against opposite-handed throwers. However, Suwinski is slashing just .129/.234/.304 against righties this season.
