The second opinion Gasser received on his left elbow Friday conflicted with the first evaluation, so he's scheduled to visit a third doctor, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. According to Hogg, Dr. Neal ElAttrache recommended surgery after examining Gasser's elbow Friday, which was in contrast to the initial evaluation from earlier this week. There's apparently no new structural damage with the flexor strain, but the differing treatment recommendations will result in the 25-year-old getting a third medical opinion. Gasser is without a timeline for his return, but he appears to be facing an extended absence regardless of whether he undergoes surgery.... See More ... See Less

Brewers' Robert Gasser: Headed for second opinion
Gasser is traveling to Los Angeles to receive a second opinion on his injured left elbow from Dr. Neal ElAttrache, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Gasser was placed on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with a left flexor strain, but the pitcher and the Brewers are still trying to get a better handle on his diagnosis and treatment options. More information on a potential timetable for Gasser could be available later this week.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Robert Gasser: Placed on IL with flexor strain
The Brewers placed Gasser on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with a left flexor strain. Initial testing on Gasser's left elbow provided encouraging results, but a second opinion evidently revealed the strain. It's not clear at this point how much time the rookie southpaw might miss, but he'll almost certainly miss more than the minimum 15 days. Gasser has been a bright spot for Milwaukee this season, posting a 2.57 ERA and 16:1 K:BB over 28 frames covering five starts.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Robert Gasser: Allows three runs vs. White Sox
Gasser didn't factor into the decision Saturday against the White Sox, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out three in five innings. All three of the runs against Gasser came via the home run ball Saturday -- an Andrew Benintendi solo shot in the third inning followed by a two-run blast off the bat of Gavin Sheets in the fourth. It's just the second time in five starts that Gasser's allowed more than one run. Overall, the left-hander is 2-0 with a 2.57 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 16 strikeouts while issuing just one walk through his first 28 innings. Gasser is currently lined up for a road matchup with the Tigers in his next outing.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Robert Gasser: Escapes with no-decision Tuesday
Gasser came away with a no-decision in Tuesday's 7-5 win over the Marlins, coughing up five runs (four earned) on 10 hits over six innings. He didn't walk or strike out a batter. The rookie southpaw had a respectable 24 called or swinging strikes on his 80 pitches, but Gasser mostly pitched to contact and watched a number of grounders make it past the Brewers' infield defenders. He left the game in line for his first loss in the majors, but Milwaukee rallied in the eighth inning. Gasser will take a 2.65 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 6:1 K:BB through 17 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come this weekend in Boston.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Robert Gasser: Improves to 2-0
Gasser (2-0) earned the win Wednesday over the Pirates, allowing one run on six hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out two. Gasser was solid in his second big-league outing, allowing just one run in the third inning while the Brewers exploded for 10 runs in a convincing victory. The 24-year-old southpaw has allowed just one run through 11 innings in his first two starts after posting a 5.25 ERA in three outings with Triple-A Nashville. Gasser figures to stick in Milwaukee's rotation while DL Hall (knee) is sidelined. The former is currently slated for a road matchup with the Marlins in his next start.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Robert Gasser: Gets another turn through rotation
Gasser is scheduled to start Wednesday's game against the Pirates at American Family Field. The Brewers will keep Gasser in the rotation as their No. 5 starter over Tobias Myers, who was optioned to Triple-A Nashville on Friday. That same day, Gasser made his MLB debut against the Cardinals and breezed through six scoreless innings while striking out four and allowing just two hits and zero walks. His numbers in three starts at Nashville (5.25 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 17:6 K:BB in 12 innings) should give fantasy managers some pause in expecting Gasser to repeat the success of his MLB debut, but he'll at least make for an intriguing streaming option while facing off against a weak Pittsburgh offense that had posted a 70 wRC+ in nine May games heading into Sunday.... Brewers' Robert Gasser: Added to roster ahead of debut
The Brewers selected Gasser's contract from Triple-A Nashville on Friday. Gasser is set to make his major-league debut Friday against the Cardinals. The left-hander began the season on the injured list at Nashville with an elbow issue before returning to post a 5.25 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 17:6 K:BB through 12 innings. He threw 78 pitches in his last outing, so Gasser would seem prepared to throw 90 or so Friday. He could head back to Nashville after this start, but a good performance might keep him in the rotation for another turn or two until DL Hall (knee) returns from the IL.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Robert Gasser: Could return this week
Gasser (elbow) "could be ready to pitch for Triple-A Nashville as soon as this week," Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Gasser has been on the shelf for nearly a month due to a bone spur in his left elbow, but he was hoping to return in mid-to-late April and could indeed do so. Gasser pitched exclusively at the Triple-A level last season and is one of Milwaukee's top pitching prospects, so he could be an option for the big-league club once he gets his pitch count built up.... Brewers' Robert Gasser: Targeting mid-to-late April
Brewers general manager Matt Arnold said Wednesday that Gasser (elbow) is progressing well and targeting a mid-to-late-April return, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. The left-hander was diagnosed late in spring training with a bone spur in his left elbow. It's unclear whether Gasser has been cleared to begin a throwing program, but positive steps are being made in his recovery. Once healthy, Gasser looks to be a good bet to make his major-league debut sooner rather than later. He was placed on Triple-A Nashville's 7-day injured list last Friday.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Robert Gasser: Sent to minor-league camp
The Brewers re-assigned Gasser to minor-league camp Tuesday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. While he didn't wind up cracking the Opening Day rotation, Gasser impressed this spring and seems poised to get a shot with the big club before long. The southpaw permitted three runs with an 11:2 K:BB over 10 innings during Cactus League action. He'll join Triple-A Nashville's rotation for now.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Robert Gasser: Making good impression
Gasser tossed three scoreless innings of relief in an exhibition game Friday. He allowed two hits and posted a 3:1 K:BB in the outing. Gasser allowed two earned runs over two innings in his lone start of the spring, but he has sandwiched scoreless one-inning and now three-inning appearances around that and owns a 6:2 K:BB over six total frames. Gasser is one of Milwaukee's top prospects and is in the mix for a rotation spot with the big club, but with him not yet on the 40-man roster, the Brewers could assign him to the minors in order to retain other pitchers that are.... Brewers' Robert Gasser: Racking up strikeouts at Triple-A
Gasser went 3-0 with a 2.00 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 29:5 K:BB in 18 innings over his last four starts with Triple-A Nashville. Gasser was knocked around a bit in July, but he has bounced back in a big way, striking out at least nine batters in all three of his August starts and keeping opposing baserunners to a minimum. Gasser has never pitched at the big-league level, but there's a chance he could do so before the campaign comes to a close.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Robert Gasser: Sent to minor-league camp
Gasser was assigned to minor-league camp on Monday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Gasser was acquired by the Brewers from the Padres in the Josh Hader trade last summer, and he was promoted to Triple-A Nashville in August of 2022. He accrued a 4.44 ERA and 1.61 WHIP with a 31:16 K:BB across 26.1 frames with the Sounds and could be a candidate to join the Brewers later on in 2023.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Robert Gasser: Dealt to Milwaukee
Milwaukee acquired Gasser, outfielder Esteury Ruiz, left-hander Taylor Rogers and right-hander Dinelson Lamet from San Diego on Monday in exchange for Josh Hader, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. The Brewers have such a good track record of targeting and developing young pitching that this move alone should slightly boost Gasser's value in dynasty leagues. He's a deceptive southpaw whose low arm angle allows all of his pitches to play up. Gasser throws a low-90s fastball, an above-average slider and a solid changeup. The 23-year-old has logged a 4.18 ERA, 3.27 FIP, 1.26 WHIP, 115 strikeouts and 28 walks in 90.1 innings across 18 starts at High-A.... See More ... See Less
