Sullivan was optioned to Triple-A El Paso by the Padres on Tuesday, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Sullivan was around as a third catcher for a week but didn't receive any starts. He's being replaced on the roster by Matthew Batten.... See More ... See Less

Padres' Brett Sullivan: Recalled from Triple-A
Sullivan was recalled from Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday. Before being optioned to Triple-A after losing the battle for a backup catcher spot to Kyle Higashioka, Sullivan logged seven hits in 25 spring training at-bats. The catcher has gotten off to a great start in Triple-A this year, slashing .472/.500/.722 in 38 plate appearances. In a corresponding move, Graham Pauley was optioned to Triple-A El Paso.... Padres' Brett Sullivan: Optioned to Triple-A
The Padres optioned Sullivan to Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday. Sullivan logged seven hits in 25 at-bats this spring, but he will ultimately lose out on the backup catcher job to Kyle Higashioka. Sullivan slashed .328/.401/.517 in Triple-A last season, and he could return to San Diego in 2024 if he starts the minor-league season off in similar fashion at El Paso.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Brett Sullivan: Back in majors
The Padres recalled Sullivan from Triple-A El Paso on Friday. After being optioned to Triple-A on Aug. 2, Sullivan will return to the majors as extra catcher depth behind Gary Sanchez and Luis Campusano. Sullivan has slashed just .170/.184/.298 in 49 major-league plate appearances and is unlikely to see consistent playing time.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Brett Sullivan: Optioned to El Paso
San Diego optioned Sullivan to Triple-A El Paso on Wednesday. Sullivan did not appear in a game during his latest brief stint with the Padres and has batted just .170/.184/.298 across 49 major-league plate appearances this year. Luis Campusano and Gary Sanchez remain locked in as the catching tandem in San Diego.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Brett Sullivan: Optioned to Triple-A
San Diego optioned Sullivan to Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday. Gary Sanchez was claimed off waivers from the Mets on Monday and will officially join the Padres ahead of Tuesday night's series opener in Miami to presumably share time behind the plate with Austin Nola. Sullivan, 29, had slashed just .170/.184/.298 through 21 games this season with the Friars.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Brett Sullivan: Heads to bench Sunday
Sullivan is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees. Though he'll take a seat in the series finale, Sullivan appears to have at least moved into a timeshare at catcher with Austin Nola, who is behind the dish Sunday. Sullivan owns a putrid .495 OPS on the season, but that's still more than 60 points better than the mark Nola has provided (.443) over 69 more plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Brett Sullivan: Called up by Friars
Sullivan was promoted from Triple-A El Paso by the Padres on Sunday. The 29-year-old has been called up for his first taste of the big leagues, with Luis Campusano dealing with a jammed thumb. Campusano has avoided the injured list for now, so it could be a brief run as San Diego's No. 2 backstop for Sullivan.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Brett Sullivan: Dealt to San Diego
The Padres acquired Sullivan and outfielder Korry Howell from the Brewers on Wednesday in exchange for catcher Victor Caratini, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports. Much like Austin Nola, Sullivan is primarily a catcher, but one that also possesses the athleticism to play the corner outfield or corner infield in a pinch as needed. His addition allows the Padres to maintain their organizational catching depth with Caratini headed to Milwaukee, though Sullivan will face a tougher path to earning a role in the big leagues in San Diego. In addition to Nola, the Padres have two other catchers (Jorge Alfaro and Luis Campusano) on the 40-man roster who are both presumably ahead of Sullivan in the pecking order. Sullivan is expected to report to Triple-A El Paso with his new organization.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Brett Sullivan: Won't make Opening Day roster
The Brewers optioned Sullivan to Triple-A Nashville on Monday. The versatile Sullivan had been hopeful to break camp with the Brewers as a No. 3 catcher and reserve option in the infield and outfield, but the fact that he has minor-league options remaining likely worked against him in his bid for the Opening Day roster. The 28-year-old will thus have to wait longer to make his MLB debut, though the fact that he possesses a spot on the 40-man roster bodes well for his chances of earning a call-up if the Brewers' position-player depth is tested at any point.... Rays' Brett Sullivan: Added to 60-man pool
Sullivan has been added to the Rays' 60-man player pool, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. He will provide some catching and outfield depth, but is unlikely to be called up to the big club, barring multiple injuries ahead of him, particularly at catcher. Sullivan hit .280/.333/.459 with 10 home runs and 21 steals in 403 plate appearances at Double-A last year, but he did that as a 25-year-old who was 1.3 years older than the average player at that level.... AJ Cassavell@AJCassavell3H agoThe Padres asked Jackson Merrill to learn on the fly in the Majors. He’s done exactly that — and he’s probably been better than you realize. With 2 1/2 months of evidence, Fernando Tatis Jr. has no doubt: “He’s a big leaguer, man.” https://t.co/KpR28uuXr8

AJ Cassavell@AJCassavell1D agoFinal: Diamondbacks 9, Padres 3 Adam Mazur was hit hard, and the Padres never mounted a comeback. They fall below .500 after a split with Arizona (which, right now, is good enough for the second Wild Card in the NL). Fernando Tatis Jr. and Jurickson Profar both went deep.
