WWE Raw results, recap, grades: Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes head to SmackDown to answer The Rock's challenge
Rollins and Rhodes had a plan, but Drew McIntyre was not ready to sit in the back seat
With WrestleMania rapidly approaching, Drew McIntyre is not content to be lost in the shuffle after earning his shot at the world heavyweight championship. The Elimination Chamber winner ended Raw with a bang on Monday night, delivering a Claymore to Seth Rollins after a night that saw Rollins agree to have Cody Rhodes' back in answering a recent WrestleMania challenge from The Rock.
Rhodes and Rollins agreed to have one another's back when the duo head to SmackDown on Friday night to answer Rock's challenge in person. But when Rollins ignored McIntyre to save Jey Uso later in the night, an enraged McIntyre delivered a violent message as the show went off the air.
CBS Sports was with you all night with recaps and highlights of all the action from Frost Bank Center in San Antonio.
Rollins and Rhodes head to SmackDown to answer The Rock's challenge
Cody Rhodes opened Raw, entering the ring to address The Rock's recent challenge for Rhodes and Seth Rollins to face The Rock and Roman Reigns at Night 1 of WrestleMania with the winner having control of Rhodes vs. Reigns on Night 2. After addressing The Rock's lengthy video on Instagram and subsequent promo on SmackDown, Rhodes called Rollins to the ring.
Rhodes said he understood if Rollins didn't want to participate in the match and instead focus on his world heavyweight championship defense against Drew McIntyre. But Rollins said some things are too big to pass up and taking down Rock and Reigns are one of those things. The duo ended the segment by saying they would both confront The Bloodline live on SmackDown to formally deliver their response to the challenge for a tag match.
Drew McIntyre def. Jey Uso via pinfall after a Claymore. Uso was in control when Solo Sikoa emerged from the crowd. This brought out Rhodes, who fought Solo off as the two brawled through the crowd. As Uso seemingly had the match in hand, Jimmy Uso appeared to cause a distraction to allow McIntyre to steal the win. Jimmy grabbed a chair and entered the ring but Rollins ran out to make the save, running right past McIntyre. This led to McIntyre running back to the ring and putting Rollins down with a Claymore before the show went off the air.
One of the most interesting things a promotion can have going into a big show is multiple intertwined storylines and WWE is delivering on that heading into WrestleMania. McIntyre responding to being pushed into a secondary role because of Rollins' involvement with Rhodes, Reigns and The Rock by making Rollins respect the threat he presents is a nice touch. It likely doesn't change the approach of Rollins and Rhodes to accepting the tag team challenge, but it's still a nice addition to the overall story. Grade: B+
