The 2022 Women's NCAA Tournament features a 68-team field for the very first time, bringing fans an appetizer before the highly-anticipated main course that is the opening rounds: the First Four. A part of the men's tournament for over a decade, the opening round games featuring the last four at-large teams and and the four lowest seeded conference tournament champions.
First Four games begin Wednesday on ESPNU with Incarnate Word battling Howard and DePaul taking on Dayton. They continue Thursday on ESPN2 with Florida State playing Missouri State and Mount St. Mary's facing Longwood.
The First Four games will be played at campus sites, as will the first- and second-round games.
All First Four winners will advance to the first round set for Friday and Saturday. The winner of the 16-seed Howard vs. Incarnate Word matchup will play Greensboro region No. 1 seed South Carolina. Also in the Greensboro region, Dayton and DePaul are playing in an 11-seed game for a matchup with No. 6 seed Georgia. In the Spokane region, the Florida State vs. Missouri State matchup is also on the 11-seed line and the winner will play No. 6 seed Ohio State. Lastly, Bridgeport region No. 1 seed NC State will play the winner of Longwood vs. Mount St. Mary's.
