Young USMNT star Christian Pulisic has continued to impress at Borussia Dortmund. The 18-year-old has seen big-time minutes alongside world stars and has caught the attention of several major clubs.
One of those is Liverpool in the Premier League. In August we talked about the reported offer from LFC to Dortmund for the American, but this week Dortmund expressed its stance.
Per Bild, Dortmund's sporting director Michael Zorc talked about the reports of Pulisic to the English club.
"We have communicated very clearly that we won't sell Christian, and that he's very much part of our plans," Zorc said. "Liverpool doesn't need to waste its time."
Well, well, well. That is some quote. It exudes the club's confidence and desire to keep him, and it really just shows how highly regarded he is there.
Now for Pulisic, a move to Liverpool would be fantastic from an exposure standpoint, but Dortmund is one of the best clubs in the world for developing young players, so he is in a great spot. Whether he moves is yet to be seen. It doesn't look likely, but all of this is great news for U.S. Soccer.
To have a young, prized talent like Pulisic, one who shares a field with world class stars like Marco Reus and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, is monumental. We haven't really seen a young American talent like this, ever. Julian Green had quite the buzz but hasn't fully been able to prove his worth and get the appearances.
This news puts U.S. Soccer on the radar even more. Having a player like this overseas making noise shows the world that American soccer can produce European-level talent, and will likely mean some top clubs considering scouting or begin to scout in the states for the next Pulisic.
