Real Madrid vs. Galatasaray score: Rodrygo makes Champions League history with hat trick
The young Brazilian had three goals and an assist on the night
After getting just one point from its first two Champions League games this season, Real Madrid's campaign looks to be headed in the right direction after a 6-0 win against Galatasaray on Wednesday with Rodrygo producing an impressive hat trick. It's back-to-back wins for Real over the Turkish side after going to Istanbul and winning 1-0 last month
With the win, Real sits firmly in second place in Group A, trailing PSG, which defeated Club Brugge 1-0 on Wednesday.
The young Brazilian stole the show at Santiago Bernabeu, scoring twice in the opening seven minutes while also registering an assist. He got his hat trick during added time in the second half. The winger showed clinical finishing with his feet and head on his first two goals, and Real jumped out to a 3-0 lead after just 14 minutes following Sergio Ramos' penalty-kick goal. The winning goal three minutes in was a thing of beauty. Take a look:
Rodrygo made history by becoming the second-youngest player to record a hat trick in a Champions League match at 18 years and 301 days of age, trailing only Raul -- another Real Madrid player -- at 18 years and 113 days.
Karim Benzema also scored two goals for Real Madrid, with first coming off a Rodrygo assist, as Los Blancos managed to blank Galatasaray again. The Turkish team had one shot on goal and has now played 360 minutes in the competition without scoring.
After losing to PSG and drawing Brugge at home to start the competition, Real looks to have turned the corner and has set itself up well to advance to the knockout phase early next year. This win gives Real seven points in the group, five behind PSG who booked their spot in the next round. Real can clinch a spot in the knockout stage with just a draw against PSG later this month.
And there's the fifth goal. Benzema! Taps in from close. A stampede.
10 minutes to go in this one, still 4-0 and Real dominating the ball. Remember, first tiebreaker is head-to-head, so Real is running away with that against the Turkish team.
Half an hour remaining, and this one is surely over. Real set to take a step closer to clinching a spot in the round of 16.
Real is going for more and not holding back. Playing high and wide and aiming to increase this already lopsided score.
Galatasaray is still looking for its first goal.
Clear penalty for Real confirmed by VAR. N'Zonzi clipped Kroos.
Rodrygo again! He heads home and has two goals after seven minutes. A beautiful effort on a pass from Marcelo.
It's an absolutely fantastic shot from the Brazilian. Calm and cool to the far post after a great trap of the ball. Real rolling.
