It's just an estimation, but you have to figure that close to 95 percent of soccer fans in the world would say Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo is the world's best player. But some, like Roberto Carlos, give the honor to someone else. Another former world star has stated who he thinks is the best, and it's not Messi or Ronaldo.
Former Barcelona and Boca Juniors player Juan Roman Riquelme, one of the world's most creative attacking midfielders of the 2000s, says it's Barcelona's Andres Iniesta.
Iniesta, a veteran midfielder with supreme vision and a world-class touch, is the tops for many reasons, Riquelme told DXTV, according to AS.
"Cristiano and Messi score a lot of goals. They do different things than other players because they are faster than everybody else, but Iniesta is the best. He shows you how to play with the ball. He does everything that you want to watch when you're in the stands. He is the only player in football who teaches you something in every game. It doesn't matter if he's playing for Barcelona or Spain. When he doesn't play, the team doesn't play the same," Riquelme said.
High praise for Iniesta from the former Copa Libertadores champion.
What do you say? Is Iniesta good enough to be in the conversation?
