A British man lost his life on Friday while working at a stadium site for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. A statement from the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy in Qatar said the man was working at the Khalifa International Stadium but did not reveal how he died.

"Earlier today, a 40-year-old British male lost his life working on Khalifa International Stadium. The relevant authorities have been notified and the next of kin has been informed. An immediate investigation into the cause of this fatality is underway and further details will be released in due course."

This marks the fifth death Qatar has announced involving the 2022 World Cup venues. There have been four stadium worker deaths previously, one of which was announced as work-related.

Khalifa is a multi-purpose venue located in Doha and is one of the top stadiums that will be used at the cup. It seats 40,000 but is being expanded to 68,000.

All this comes after allegations of abuse including forced labor, poor work conditions and more.
