The U.S. Olympic women's basketball team is chasing its eighth consecutive gold medal with a star-studded veteran roster, and so far the Americans are on the right track. They took care of business early on with a perfect 3-0 record in Group C, then took down Nigeria and Australia to reach the gold medal game against France.

The host country won its group with a 2-1 record, then defeated Germany and Belgium in the knockout rounds to advance to the gold medal game for just the second time ever. Back in London in 2012, the French lost to the Americans by 36 in the final, and it will take a monumental effort from them on Sunday to avenge that defeat.

Earlier on Sunday, Australia won its first Olympic medal since 2012 with a thrilling win over Belgium, 85-81. With less than 30 seconds to play, the Aussies were clinging to a three-point lead when Stephanie Talbot blocked Antonia Delaere's potential game-tying shot to seal the win.

Ezi Magbegor, a leading candidate for WNBA Defensive Player of the Year this season, had a heroic performance for the Opals, finishing with 30 points, 13 rebounds, three assists, two steals and three blocks, while Alanna Smith added 13 points, 12 rebounds and three assists.
