  • Sabres' Jack Rathbone: Designated for waivers

Rathbone was placed on waivers by Buffalo on Tuesday, per PuckPedia. Rathbone has seen action in 28 NHL games, all with Vancouver, but spent all of last year in the minors with AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. With the Baby Pens, the 25-year-old defenseman showed significantly more offensive upside with eight goals and 16 assists in 67 contests. If there is an injury on the blue line, Rathbone should be in the mix for a call-up.

  • Sabres' Jack Rathbone: Secures one-year deal

Rathbone signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Sabres on Monday. Rathbone had nine goals and 25 points across 69 AHL regular-season contests between Abbotsford and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton last year. The 25-year-old also has two goals and five points in 28 career NHL appearances. He'll likely spend most of 2024-25 with AHL Rochester but could push for an NHL job in training camp.

  • Penguins' Jack Rathbone: Acquired via trade

Rathbone was brought in by the Penguins on Tuesday, along with Karel Plasek, from Vancouver in exchange for Mark Friedman and Ty Glover. Rathbone's acquisition will do little to alter the 23-man roster for Pittsburgh as he likely sits very far down the depth chart even among the players suiting up for the Baby Pens in the AHL. The Boston native has 28 games of NHL experience in his career but almost certainly won't be adding to that total this season.

Rathbone was released from the hospital Saturday night, which is a positive sign after the scary incident. He will continue to be evaluated by AHL Abbotsford's medical staff, but it's safe to assume the 23-year-old defenseman won't be considered for a promotion to Vancouver in the near term while he is on the mend.

  • Canucks' Jack Rathbone: Scratched for sixth time

Rathbone was a healthy scratch during Tuesday's loss to the Devils. Rathbone has played in four contests to date, averaging 16:27 of ice time, including 1:56 on the power play. With the Canucks getting some of their injured defenders back, Rathbone won't see the ice as much for the time being. He has no points this year, so his fantasy value is low even when he does play.

Rathbone (upper body) will travel with AHL Abbotsford for its upcoming matchup with AHL Colorado. It's certainly a surprise to see Rathbone back in action so quickly after having been stretchered off the ice Wednesday. • Canucks' Jack Rathbone: Released from hospital

Rathbone (upper body) -- who was stretched off the ice in a minor-league contest Wednesday -- was released from the hospital Thursday morning, Rick Dhaliwal of TSN 1040 Vancouver reports. While it's certainly good news that Rathbone has been allowed to go home, he is likely still facing a significant absence in order to fully recover. The blueliner hasn't played in the NHL since mid-November and now may have to wait even longer before getting another shot with the Canucks.

  • Canucks' Jack Rathbone: Recalled from minors

Rathbone was elevated from AHL Abbotsford on Wednesday. Rathbone will join the Canucks for a three-game swing through Colorado, Vegas and Anaheim while Travis Hamonic was flipped to the minors in a corresponding move. With Hamonic unvaccinated against COVID-19, the Canucks likely won't bring him to the United States for road games due to Canada's quarantine protocols. As such, Rathbone should get opportunities to at least practice with the team even if he isn't in the lineup.
