Blue Jackets' Tim Berni: Headed home to Europe
Berni is expected to play in Switzerland this season, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic reports.
The 23-year-old blueliner failed in his bid to make the Blue Jackets' roster in training camp. Rather than head to AHL Cleveland, Berni will return home to play in the Swiss National League -- he played 146 games for Zurich SC between 2017-18 and 2020-21 prior to coming over to North America. Columbus will still retain his NHL rights as a restricted free agent since he was issued a qualifying offer over the summer.

Blue Jackets' Tim Berni: Released from PTO
Berni was released from his professional tryout agreement with Columbus on Thursday, per Brian Hedger of The Columbus Dispatch.
Berni had a goal, three points and 34 PIM in 59 contests with Columbus last season. The 23-year-old was in a unique position because he's a restricted free agent whose negotiating rights are controlled by the Blue Jackets, but unlike most RFAs, Berni decided to participate in training camp anyway by inking a professional tryout. Now that he's been released from the tryout, he'll need to either agree to a contract with the Blue Jackets or sign an offer sheet with another team in order to play in the NHL this season.

Blue Jackets' Tim Berni: Picks up helper
Berni secured an assist in Tuesday's 4-3 defeat to the Flyers.
Berni closed out a 39-game pointless streak with his helper Tuesday. In 57 games this season, the 23-year-old blueliner has just two points, 54 shots and 114 hits. As such, fantasy players shouldn't be expecting much in the way of offensive production out of the defenseman in the final two games of the 2022-23 campaign or beyond.

Blue Jackets' Tim Berni: Back in NHL
Berni was recalled from AHL Cleveland on Thursday.
Berni was sent down before the All-Star break and did not miss a game as the Blue Jackets return to action Friday for the first time since Jan. 31. Berni had a goal in 28 games with 72 hits and 35 blocks. Berni played two games with Cleveland over the past week, going minus-two with nary a point.

Blue Jackets' Tim Berni: Sent to bus league
Berni was assigned to AHL Cleveland on Wednesday.
Berni has appeared in 28 straight games with the Blue Jackets, so although he'll head to the minors for now, he'll almost certainly be back with the big club following the NHL's All-Star break. Berni's picked up one goal while posting an ugly minus-17 rating through his 28 top-level appearances this year.

Blue Jackets' Tim Berni: Five hits in Tuesday's loss
Berni recorded two shots on goal, one blocked shot, two PIM and five hits with a minus-1 rating in Tuesday's loss to the Senators.
The 22-year-old rookie has become a reliable stay-at-home option on the Columbus blue line since making his NHL debut in early December. Berni doesn't have a point in 13 games, but he has compiled 28 hits, 16 blocked shots and 10 PIM along with 19 shots on goal and a minus-8 rating. With three regular defensemen on IR, the Blue Jackets will likely continue to lean on Berni to plug one of those holes.
