Sabres' Lawrence Pilut: Sent back to minors
Pilut was reassigned to AHL Rochester on Wednesday.
Pilut's demotion could be an indication that Riley Stillman (upper body) or Mattias Samuelsson (upper body) will be ready to return for Thursday's clash with Dallas. In his last appearance, the 27-year-old Pilut racked up one goal, one assist and one shot despite logging just 13:31 of ice time. Even if Pilut is recalled before Thursday's clash, he will likely serve as a healthy scratch again.

Pilut now has three points in 17 contests this year and nine points in 63 outings overall, and he doesn't add much else in the way of non-scoring production. Sabres' Lawrence Pilut: Playing well in return to Sabres
Pilut has been playing well for the Sabres after a couple of seasons in the KHL, Buffalo Hockey Beat reports.
Pilut was poised to be a regular on the Sabres' blue line in 2020 but decided to sign in the KHL when Buffalo would not give him a one-way contract. He returns to the Sabres (on a two-way deal), and while he is likely a depth defenseman heading into the regular season, he has looked very good thus far and could be a veteran presence on the team at the age of 26. He had 11 assists in 40 games with Traktor Chelyabinsk of the KHL last season.

Sabres' Lawrence Pilut: Signs extension with KHL club
Pilut agreed to terms on a one-year contract extension with Traktor Chelyabinsk (KHL) on Tuesday, Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News reports.
Pilut's new deal will keep him in Russia long enough for the Sabres' NHL rights to expire, which means he'll be free to sign with any NHL club beginning with the 2023-24 season. The 25-year-old blueliner has generated five assists in 19 games for his KHL club this year and should be capable of matching the 28-point campaign he put together last year.

Sabres' Lawrence Pilut: Lands KHL deal
Pilut (illness) has signed a contract with Traktor Chelyabinsk of the KHL, Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News reports.
Pilut appeared in just 13 games with the Sabres this campaign, going scoreless while posting a minus-4 rating over that span, but he played pretty well in the minors, racking up six goals and 17 assists while registering a plus-4 rating in 37 AHL contests. The 24-year-old blueliner may simply think that the KHL will begin its 2020-21 season before the NHL does, in which case he'd be able to play some high-level games overseas before returning to North America for the start of the NHL campaign. That would, however, require his KHL contract to include an NHL out-clause, and at this point it remains unclear if that's the case. Either way, the Sabres are planning on issuing him a qualifying offer to retain his RFA rights, so they'll get the first crack at signing Pilut if and when he returns to North America.

Pilut missed practice Friday, so his absence for Saturday's game isn't all that surprising. He's been held pointless in 13 games this season, so Pilut not playing is unlikely to alter fantasy fortunes.
