Canucks' Nathan Smith: Placed on waivers
Smith was waived Tuesday with the intent of sending him to AHL Abbotsford.
Smith notched 12 goals and 31 points in 60 regular-season contests for AHL Tucson in 2023-24. He didn't earn a point in four appearances with Arizona last campaign. Smith will probably spend most, if not all, of 2024-25 in the minors.

Canucks' Nathan Smith: Agrees to one-year deal
Smith penned a one-year, two-way contract with the Canucks on Monday.
Smith has just 14 games of NHL experience, all with the Coyotes, but has primarily served as a minor-league option. Selected by the Jets in the third round of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, the 25-year-old center will be hard-pressed to make the Opening Night roster for Vancouver. Instead, expect Smith to spend the bulk of the 2024-25 season with AHL Abbotsford.

Smith was sent down after Nick Bjugstad (undisclosed) was deemed healthy enough to play Wednesday versus Dallas. Smith has 14 NHL games to his name, but none of them have come in 2023-24.

Coyotes' Nathan Smith: Brought up from minors
Smith was promoted from AHL Tucson on Monday.
Smith has yet to appear in an NHL game this season, having played exclusively in the minors. With the Roadrunners, the 25-year-old center has tallied nine goals and 18 helpers in 48 contests. The decision to call up Smith could be an indication that one or both of Nick Bjugstad (undisclosed) or Barrett Hayton (lower body) will not be available to face Dallas on Wednesday.

Smith appeared in four games with Arizona last season but he failed to record a point over that span. He'll fill a depth role in the Coyotes' organization again during the 2023-24 campaign after scoring 27 points in 64 AHL games last year.

Coyotes' Nathan Smith: Summoned by Coyotes
Smith is being called up from AHL Tucson on Friday, Craig Morgan of PHNX Sports reports.
Smith hasn't played in the NHL this season, but he did record two goals and four points in 10 contests with Arizona in 2021-22. At the AHL level with Tucson, he's contributed 11 goals and 25 points in 58 games in 2022-23.

Coyotes' Nathan Smith: Garners helper Friday
Smith posted an assist, six hits and a plus-2 rating in Friday's 5-4 win over the Predators.
After signing out of Minnesota State University, Smith recorded four points in 10 games in his first taste of NHL play. The 23-year-old center added 14 shots on net, 26 hits and a minus-1 rating while seeing some power-play time. The Florida native should be in contention for a middle-six role to begin 2022-23.

Smith scored a goal on three shots and added two hits in Saturday's 5-4 overtime loss to the Blues.
Smith has settled in nicely with two goals and an assist in his last four games. That accounts for all of his offense through seven NHL appearances since he signed his entry-level deal following the end of Minnesota State University's season. The 23-year-old has added 10 shots on net, 19 hits and a minus-3 rating, providing a little grit while playing as the second-line center for the Coyotes.

Coyotes' Nathan Smith: Scores first career goal
Smith scored a goal and added four hits in Wednesday's 4-3 loss to Chicago.
After registering his first assist in his last contest, Smith buried a feed from Phil Kessel to score his first NHL goal. The 2018 third-round pick has made an impact in his first five games. He now has 13 assists to go along with the two points. Smith will look to keep producing as the Coyotes build for 2022-23 and beyond.

Coyotes' Nathan Smith: First NHL point
Smith picked up an assist in Monday's 5-3 loss to the Hurricanes.
In his fourth NHL game, Smith picked up his first career point, setting up a Nick Ritchie goal in the second period. The 23-year-old rookie out of Minnesota State also picked up three hits while playing 16:21 minutes in the contest -- including 3:11 on the power play. Smith should get an extended look with Arizona down the stretch. There's some offensive upside here, as Smith recorded 19 goals and 31 assists in 38 NCAA games this season.
