Canucks' John Stevens: Pens one-year deal
Stevens inked a one-year, two-way contract with the Canucks on Monday.
Despite tallying 19 goals and 24 assists in 68 minor-league games this year, Stevens was unable to earn a call-up to the NHL and is still waiting to make his debut. A product of Northeastern University, the 28-year-old center has spent the past six seasons playing exclusively in the AHL and appears no closer to becoming an everyday NHL-caliber player.

Canucks' John Stevens: Placed on waivers
Stevens was waived by Vancouver on Monday, Stephen Whyno of the Associated Press reports.
Stevens scored six goals and 10 points in 24 games with AHL Utica last season. He's yet to make his NHL debut and likely won't get that opportunity this season.

Canucks' John Stevens: Earns two-way deal
Stevens signed a one-year, two-way deal with the Canucks on Wednesday.
Stevens played with AHL Utica last season, posting 10 points in 24 contests for the Canucks' old farm team. That was apparently enough to earn a two-way deal in 2021-22, although the 27-year-old is likely to remain in the minors with AHL Abbotsford.

John Stevens: Cut loose by Islanders
The Islanders didn't send Stevens a qualifying offer Tuesday.
Stevens hasn't been able to crack the Islanders' lineup since turning pro in 2016-17, so this move isn't surprising. He'll be looking to land a two-way contract with a new club this offseason.

Islanders' John Stevens: Sent down to minors
Stevens (undisclosed) was reassigned to AHL Bridgeport on Friday, Michael Fornabaio of the Connecticut Post reports.
In order to demote Stevens, he would have needed to be activated off non-roster injured reserve. The center was injured during training camp and will likely spend the rest of the season in the minors.

Islanders' John Stevens: Out with undisclosed injury
Stevens is considered out indefinitely with an undisclosed injury, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.
The 24-year-old Northeastern University product is expected to begin the campaign in the minors, so this shouldn't affect his chances of making the Opening Night roster, but his development will undoubtedly suffer a bit if he's unable to participate in training camp at all. Another update on Stevens' status should be released once he's able to return to practice.
